Dude, I have long advocated on this board about spending excesses and the national debt and that both Dems and the GOP are equally responsible and/or that neither one gives a shit about either once they get into power. As I said in my post, I'm supportive of eliminating waste in the Fed spending.
You could take a very simplistic view of Fed spending to reset it
- Use the 2018 spending as the baseline = $4.11 T (pick an earlier year if you want)
- Savings over 2024 spending is (6.75 - 4.11) $2.64T.
- Go through each dept which makes up the $2.64T and decide if it was inflationary (SS has inflation related increases for ex.) or policy driven (Medicaid expansion which doubled the spend but which should now be reversing).
- Allow for increase in interest on national debt which is sky rocketing.
Look to shave at least $1T without crashing the economy ...
And certainly continue to line item review everything else.
Note that the GOP fully owns the spending bill due to be passed by mid March, I assume it will include mucho cuts.
