"varsity call ups". So much to unpack in that phrase. My main takeaway - girls soccer is very specialized and no matter what age HS, having played the game carries more impact than just being an advanced athletic specimen.

Geez, I thought y’all were exaggerating. Those fields are awful.
if anything I would take any results with a grain of salt. Teams had guests, were playing different formations, girls out of position, different age brackets etc. Years ago I would of never thought this but tournaments now are an absolute waste of time especially one that starts the day after thanksgiving and kills your entire break you could of spent with your kids and family doing something else. There's really no reason to play in any tournaments at this time of the year anymore. League is done and the team is on break for 3 months. Unless your in a recruiting year and you need your kids to get some extra looks then that's about the only reason I could see playing any of these games going forward for this age group. So maybe play in Surf College Cup or the Winter Showcase next year depending on your situation.
Unfortunately 100% true, although I wish it wasn't. After u14 there's just not much benefit to playing outside of your league.
If you win nobody is watching and rankings start getting weird because top teams rarely play outside their league.
I'm guessing once the top players start signing commitment letters good or bad teams become meaningless because everyone is trying to showcase themselves.
100%. I took so much flak from parents and a coach because I said, "no to Thanksgiving tournaments." It was fun when they were young, but we didn't have to drive to Vegas when my kid was 10. My best advice is to just say no and spend time with family.
I try not to exaggerate. However, check out the fields in April. They should be wonderful.
I'm assuming Del Mar was still shitty for the Boys Surf College Cup?
Again, some were, and some were great. About 50-50. 2/3’s of the front are great. The other 1/3 not great and the back fields (4 of them) were and are the worst. They say they will all be great by spring.
