How’s the 2023-24 season going?

They are definitely a contender. That Surf vs Koge game could have gone either way with surf owning possession and generating more chances. I never said the team is not good. All I said that individually there is only 1 player this moment that in my eyes is ready for the youth national team. Others have potential but are not yet complete players ready for a youth national team. Only 1 player from Koge made the USA national camp. And they had less players than Blues, Surf, MVLA attending US

Complete Player:

A complete soccer player embodies a blend of exceptional skills that make them a standout candidate for national team selection. These athletes excel in technical abilities, which include adept dribbling, precise passing, accurate shooting, and effective defending, allowing them to handle various in-game scenarios proficiently. They also possess a deep tactical understanding, capable of adapting to different team formations and strategies while quickly identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents. Physically, they are equipped with the endurance, speed, agility, and strength necessary to maintain top performance levels throughout a match. Moreover, their psychological makeup is marked by mental toughness and leadership qualities. They remain composed under pressure, exhibit strong decision-making capabilities, and can inspire teamwork. This combination of skills not only makes them invaluable on the field but also primes them for potential roles on national teams, where versatility and consistency are crucial.

In Socal 2010 group I can count these players with 1 hand. The 1 mid from Koge, 2 from Surf, the infamous Mak (USA 09 Team) & the girl that plays with MLS boys. They fit the complete player category
OMG, who cares. let them be little. High school is only a few months away.

And you think high school is going to help them become complete soccer players? SoCal normally produces 5-6 national team players per age group. Not saying that none of these girls are not good enough to go play D1 college one day but national team level only a handful or 2 have the possibility of ever making it. I have a daughter in this age group that plays ecnl and I’m very real and honest to myself that she does not stand a chance to ever make a youth national team. Not even a camp or ID

I absolutely do not think high school will help them become better soccer players at all. Im simply high lighting the fact the high school is game changer on many different levels, socially, emotionally, physically etc.

Interesting take on a team sport. Not sure the number of individuals making the USA camp means the quality of that team is better. Historically Slammers doesn’t send many girls to the USA camps. Doing some homework, Surf has routinely sent more girls. The HB Koge player you called out was identified at Blues. Don’t think she is the best player on HBK but I haven’t seen them play as much. Surf has great teams, no argument, but number of girls getting scholarships and winning national championships seems to be a better indicator.

From what I have seen at Legends, this is going to be a team to be reckoned with. They are making changes at all levels to build a club that wins at the national level. They are putting the olders in quality D1 programs. Moving to ECNL has opened my eyes a bit. I still think the top GA clubs can compete with the top ECNL clubs, but it is clear GA drops off significantly after the top 5.

She was identified at Koge not Blues. She was only identified at blues for PDP. She made the final team on ID2 to go to Spain and was the only 2010 Koge player that made it to the National team camp. She is the most complete player on that 2010 team.

Players that are complete players are not generally affected by high school. They seem to have a focused path and a very strong mental determination to rise to the top without any distractions from high school drama. Many times they are home schooled. Most girls are done growing by 14/15 and if they are good enough they will play varsity.

National team ID is very different from producing a top team.

Of the 35 players in last year's national championship game, I think only two made it to the national team ID camp this year.

This is a very interesting fact. Potential national team players are evaluated by their individualities and not by how their team wins games in a national tournament. Makes sense. Koge won that tournament but was imo not a better team than surf or mvla in terms of style of playing the game. They were just better that day grinding that win and leveraged their physicality and size. Many of those girls were ex Blues players that were always great athletes but not necessarily the better soccer players in terms of decision making, technical ability and tactical awareness. That’s prob why most did not make the ID.

What's going on at Legends? Are you referring to the 10"s being a team to be reckoned with or the club as a whole? I've just heard the 10's are getting a nice upgrade of 5-6 new girls that all went to USA ID camps not counting the few that went from the current team. They are probably the most improved team since last season. I don't think they even made playoffs last season either and they are looking very promising to go this season.

From where (clubs) are those girls coming?

Lot's of rumor mill going on about movement for next season. 5 or 6 is insane number, if the grapevine source is true. I told my wife's sister dd that she better be ready for the call up, if that even happens now. I've heard that this 2010 Legends team will most likely be #1 in the country and any youngster looking for a play up challenge best be ready because you will only get once chance. Also, I got PM from a Nocal dad that said Hoge is clearly #1 and will beat MLVA this year in finals. He said Surf is too soft but plays pretty soccer. New ratings based on this info I just got.

#1 Koge
#2 MLVA
#3 Surf

Surf lost head-to-head with Koge and scoreboard is scoreboard. Pretty soccer doesn't equal championship soccer. You must find a little bit of good luck as will.

My prediction for this season is that one of the 2 best soccer playing style teams in the nation Surf or MVLA take it. My hope is the girls have matured, are now bigger stronger and that Koge’s physical advantage that they had last year will not be so dominant. If you limit the corner kicks and set play opportunities near the box for Koge, they will struggle as a soccer team. They are a soccer team with big & fast athletes but not many great soccer players except for their 1 mid that went to the USA national ID. She’s a complete soccer player.
Haven’t posted in a while mainly because this season has been rough.

We’ve been butt-whooped by all three teams multiple times 😝 and they do it in different ways. Surf and MVLA have a similar gradual possession style with surf tending to start outside with their speedy wings and work in, while MVLA often works in to out and they have a solid two way player in their 6. Koge’s defense is punishing with a solid goalie, and they look to trigger a fast break offense.

All styles can win and winning probably takes a little luck. One thing these team and player comparison forums never talk about is defense. Defense won the game in the Champions League today, by the way.

There's two ways to win ;-)

- You score more than them
- They score less than you

Defense can win just as many games as Offense.
