Climate and Weather

Don't be silly. Solar is for handling mid day peaks when all the A/C is on.

What you're talking about is energy storage. Not just batteries. Things like paired reservoir hydropower. Or car chargers which turn themselves on and off in response to utility needs. (Not pie in the sky anymore. I got an ad for one last week.)

Did you actually think you're the only one in the world who knows that it's dark at night? Yes, we are aware.
Actually peak energy use is between 4-9 pm, not much solar production during those hours.

While I believe batteries can be part of the equation, it basically makes us China's bitch. As far as hydroelectric goes, we're removing dams not building them and dams are incredibly environmentally damaging, particularly to water quality. So again it comes back to nuclear.

The existing big hydro dams in the western USA pretty much use up the hydro capacity available, while also providing flood control and water supply. Nobody is tearing those dams down.

The solar production during the hottest part of the day offsets the need for the use of other resources which can then be shifted into production when needed later.

No one is building them in the US either. Mead and Powell evaporate a shit ton (that's a technical term) of water. But yeah neither are going away in the near term.

Just because we are removing dams doesn't mean it's smart.

Snow pack isn't going to do the trick in 30 years. We need to vastly increase our water storage capacity. Some of it will be groundwater recharge, but we probably need more dams, too.

So how long before all this infrastructure is built and online in California? It better be in less then 12 years..much sooner.

Did you figure out how much mercury is making it into our seafood yet?

And I take it you struck out on take permits. You're not much of an outdoorsman are you?

There's another byproduct of creating these mega dams. Earthquakes..

I'll let D4 and Richard dive into this.

Kinda funny. I recall posting how instead of building a bullet train the state should be building more reservoirs. Richard aka @espola blasted me for that post. Hey Dick..did you suddenly change your mind?

Richard doesn't agree with you..

Enjoy your game of “I know the special term”. It’s still juvenile.

What special term is that? Take Permit? Infrastructure? Mercury?

Just because you continue to post stuff without knowledge or background isn't my fault.

DYOR... of wait. That might through you off. That means Do Your Own Reasearch.

So when you posted about Mercury levels getting into our seafood as a byproduct of butning coal and I asked you to orovide how much of it is getting in... is that a term that threw you off? Or was it that I asked for you to provide the amount and not a percentage? Or was it the bromine that stumped you?

I think I bruised your ego. You're beging to sound a lot like Wez......

Well, we're both in the same boat, your not getting hydro and I'm not getting nuclear. The problem with the Dem's plans, like GND, is they don't substantially address global warming, they're more social engineering than anything else. All about the "cause", but not the "effect".

I agree with you on more reservoirs, but I favor those that collect snowmelt and precipitation, and don't dam major rivers or viable streams and creeks. More like what we have in San Diego where seasonal streams are dammed. Think of all the water that runs off into the ocean during major SoCal storms. These wouldn't provide hydroelectric, but most hydro opportunities are already taken, or are too remote to be practical.

The full story. Some beaches are actually growing.

How do you collect snowmelt and precipitation without damming a major river or stream?

One reasonable definition of "major stream" is "stream with a lot of water in it".

It's how all our reservoirs are in San Diego County. They're basically on seasonal creeks, or on creeks that are barely a trickle, or just some standing water, most of the year. They only flow during rain events Our reservoirs are basically retention basins and have no hydroelectric capability.
