G2010 - How’s the 2022 season going?

Experience is the only way wisdom comes. The old days of recruiting (stealing) other teams top players can only work with a dad who can be GM and then would do all the work for you as coach. It's a gift. I was the GM in Temecula for 1 year back in the day and got a lot of hate because of splitting up the Legends South team and instead took our fire power up North. I was used as a pawn and never did it again. Car pooling was the key to pulling this off but it sure pissed off the locals and I wish I wasn't used like that. It was wrong and one of the few mistakes I made in youth soccer....lol. When she got to blues and Tad, I learned how insane and competitive the parents were and I decided to go solo and just focus on my baby goat and make sure she makes no excuse and works hard. Tad had no GM. He and Rob worked the fields and did recruiting the right way, moo. My dd worked hard and the team won all the time. The problem with this old GM model for coach is if coach pisses off his GM. GM Father can now take all the top goats, say bad things about the former coach (club) and preach and sell how amazing the new coach, club are and how "green" the greener pasture is. It's crazy.....

This is very true about the GM father and this definitely has happened before. I think @TeamDadJokes can explain how a GM Father can take most players and move them to another team. He mentioned a similar scenario in the past. I think this also happened as well with that team that is now west coast 2010 team. GM father took them all to West Coast from coach Filipovic. I remember reading a story in the past. If AR did not recruit most of these players and the GM father did then it can definitely make or break a team if the situation is not resolved and worked out.

Kind of...

Abner being nice to the players is likely the only time of the day when their overly aggressive parents arent hounding them for performance/results.

I do agree that Blues are playing a very high level of soccer for 12yr old girls. If your kid isnt playing it might be time to move on. Theres lots of options in OC for players that want field time but arent getting it at Blues.

You might want to pull back on the Steel v Steel type comments. Playing at a high level often brings injuries. Say your kid breaks their leg + cant play for 6 months. In a true "Steel v Steel" environment this would mean your kid is now replaced + if the replacement is better your kid is off the team. These are children + not professionals. Going all in on competitiveness will cause more problems then it solves.

I couldn’t agree with you more. But the reality is that it does not always happen that way. If someone is out for 6 or more months and can’t get back to the level after they return from injury. There is a good chance she or he won’t be part of the roster next season if they are not able to catch up and keep up.

Great point. My little one was way too small for some of the "Steel" and got hurt a few times from tougher steel. It did teach her to be brave, tough and fight for ball no matter how small you are and how weak your steel is......

This is correct… and the disfunction of this team is because of parents who want to be the GM… if parents can get out the way and let the kids play, this wouldn’t be a topic…
Parents only GM when the coach allows it. It's not stories you hear @SoccerSpoiler , but facts when it comes from so many mouths. All 4 of these 2010 teams are known across the board for being parent run.

Surf
Blues
Eagles
Slammers

All guilty. Thanks coaches.

I'll take it even one step further with these clubs coaches. Their predecessors all showed them the ways. After all, who could pass up a free vacation from Chuck, right?

I heard about attempted coup at a "house" meeting with the GM and parents who got the invite. GM dad tried to get the coach fired or take his crew elsewhere if his demands were not met. This was right before playoffs as well. Anyway, coach found another gm dad (really good dad and I mean that) and was able to save the day. Coup at a house is taking this way too far and he was able to keep all the players, minus the old GMs dd and her bff.

Blues never had GM when I was there, but that was Tads team. He never played that game and I think he might be the only one. You need support from parents but when you start sending "dad" out to find you better players, that can cause big problems. Bruh, the head Director at the Training Center in SD offered my dd 5 freaking candy bars if she was able to secure a future YNT invitee mothers phone number at her one and only invite. I kid you not. Dude even asked me later if I would be willing to give the player a ride. It never happen because I was pissed off and called the Doc out and of course my little girl was never invited back to the grooming center. She failed the test. Oh well, you live and learn, right?

You should get your facts straight before you put things out there like that. Alex alone took the team to WC, we were all happy at Blues and loved that team but he convinced us all that the team was to good to be the second team and got everyone on board to join him as the new director at WC and lost that job in the process by being his shady self. He then wanted everyone to pull out after we were had decided to leave blues and go to WC. Most went to WC, but some didn’t as well. Feel free to hit me up and we can meet up but don’t put bullshit out there unless you know your facts.

Thanks for clarifying the story. I did not know the full version of the story.

No worries, sorry if I came off as an ass but Alex made up all kinds of stuff to try and save himself and bashed others in the process, but the truth always comes out eventually and those close to the situation know exactly what happened. Shame that team broke up, but he did everything in his power to destroy it once we stood up to him. If everyone just kept it 100 parents, coaches, docs, managers etc the game would be so much better. Sometimes the truth hurts but if you’re honest with everyone you don’t have to worry about it coming back to haunt you.

The minute you call the coach out and especially after you call the DOC out for letting something happen its over for your kid unless your coming with cash in hand.

Solutions to END the drama :

-Coaches caught in the bars and or restaurants with parents during a tournament will be terminated

-Coaches talking to parents at games and practices with out a documented Grievance will be terminated

-Coaches are required to recruit or the club should open a new paid position for scouting. NO PARENT GENERAL MANAGERS*

-No private training sessions unless they are free and open to everyone on the team

-Private training is fine if you are not coaching the player or any family member on your designated team(s)

-Club will over see team chats and the coaches individual email account. No personal cell phone numbers are to be given out. NO TEXTING WITH PARENTS.

-Coaches are not to have intimate relationships with any parent on their team (Say parent since were all woke now)

-No Guest Players from other clubs for ALL ECNL levels. You committed to your roster coach. Stick with it. Develop your team and Club. These parents paid to see their kids play. Play them!

-No Guesting or playing for multiple CLUB teams at ALL ECNL levels. (AKA: The WALTER Rule)

-If you want to play organized Futsal, great. Do so at the RL level since you lack first team commitment.

-Empty season roster spots will be given to ECRL players. This will prevent club hoppers at the highest level.

-In season transfers must play for the RL team for 90 days before being moved up.

-Team Captains are chosen by the team not the coach.

-Coaches will be transparent with how many scholarship players are on their roster and who is paying for player X.

-So parents can calm the fuck down, ECNL and ECRL should have unlimited subs. I understand youth soccer's a cash grab. You cant ask a club to cap an 11v11 roster with less numbers. They want and need club dues to stay in business. Just change the substitution rule. The immediate impact that one rule will make fixes 80 to 90% of all these teams problems. Of course parents will be heated when their kid whos a starter gets subbed for lesser talent. NL & RL subs are the kiss of death since the player is done for the half.

-*The non parent GM should be a no brainer. No Johnny you're not helping the team get better. You are telling everyone and the coach player X sucks and you are causing divide among the parents.

Wow, that's a lot to chew on ChaIk. I always said we need parents at the table to help fix all this and not the rich one's holding "cash" in their hands in the back room. What money and sex can buy you is not fair for those who are ugly and have no cash on hand to play, "pay for play."

Agree with all these. It gets frustrating watching all the cheapskates have their kid play for free when there’s paying players that are being overlooked on the 2nd teams.

One fyi that you might know is that Surf actually does have people that they pay to scout youth soccer teams for talent. Talked to the guy once + he seemed very nice. Not a bad way to spend your afternoons if you’re retired + like watching games.

Its a good system if the coach is not connected to any ODP or NT training center. It avoids the whole "sign with surf and you'll get @crush DD's roster invite"

Clubs will soon have to hire "bar" scouts to make sure no late night drinking with coach. Booze + parent + coach + hotel + 12am=?

”cheapskates who have their kid play for free?”

That goes too far for me. Some families have thousands of dollars to spend on sports, but some don’t. If you want your kid to play against the best, some of those kids are from scholarship families.

I've seen scholarship families that dont have enough money for club fees but somehow have enough to pay for privates with the coach.

Also my experience has been that the scholarship parents are often club shoppers/hoppers.

Perfect but teams still need to be transparent. That way when the family claiming income below poverty level shows up in a new $80k car they can be held accountable and forced to pay.

I thought you had to pay to play until u12. It wasn't until the GDA started that I was sold "fully funded" by four top clubs in Socal. We hopped around a few times and were labeled club hoppers and dad shopping child around to win medals and I get that. I never shopped. I got recruited with phone calls and emails from Docs and Training Center Directors for US Soccer to invite my dd to this and that. I've heard it all. If you can ball and club wants to give scholarship away for soccer ability only, awesome.

I never asked for a "free handout" to any Doc. Never, ever did I ask and beg, "pretty, pretty please, I'm so poor and can't afford youth soccer and and all the travel. Please, please Doc, please comp my dd free soccer & travel because I'm poor." It was always, "our program gives away free rides to the top players and we want to invest in your dd." Stuff like that. It was never a financial aid deal or let me see your w2 and see if you qualify for financial help.

I don’t see the problem. If a kid is on scholarship that means she/he is an elite prospect. That same prospect could draw scouts to your team and get other kids noticed. Kids that need the free ride or not shouldn’t have to pay if they’re so talented that being there is a direct cause of wins and exposure for your team. That same kid can be a draw for recruiting as well. I understand if the scholarship player is taking mins from kids further down the roster but you gotta take the good with the bad.

I say this as a club fee paying parent. I’ve been hit with the “you’re late on your monthly payment” many times lol the soccer struggles are real.
