G2010 - How’s the 2022 season going?

Tell me that you’re joking…

Chuck holds all cards and has for years. Just looking for a rounded number to level the playing field for everyone. He's been awfully quiet lately.

Crazy right? Every parent has their breaking point for their own reasons. I won't judge them for that, when the captain of the ship has created a mess no one should be surprised of fallout.

You are also correct as to Blues/Eagles/Koge girls wanting to bring in all that fire power as one force. Stars have egos and their handlers (dads) will be in for a huge reality check of where their kid lands in the pecking order.

Slow and steady wins the race. Some dads are acting like these games matter at this age group. Their are girls out there that are on much smaller clubs just chugging along to pop out of no where in 2 years and take some of these "star" players spots.

@crush can you speak on when girls begin to leave soccer due to burnout, pressure, crazy parents, politics as well as at what age you really see a more complete product of a player since they are in the midst of physical/mental changes. Please tell us of any super star players you witnessed when they were 9-13, burn out and fall off the map.

Its Girls U13 soccer. GIRLS SOCCER, not WOMENS. It ultimately does not matter!

You see it already at this age. The Dad or Mom wants it more then the player. These "Star Players" body's start changing and loafing through the season on being big or fast no longer works. But yes, it always circles back to a shitty captain. They pick and choose who they like and money speaks louder then talent. Bar tabs are also expensive at hotels. Coaches have a hard enough time paying for gas let alone drinks and dinner at a 4 star hotel in San Diego. These DOC's and Presidents are guilty of being worse then the shady coach. They continue choosing to turn the cheek since they will always be able to field a first team. Win lose or Draw the money does not change but at some point they will look into the mirror and know they have been worse then the parents for employing these coaches who get roped in for the $$$$$$$$.

Some advice for the lurking Doc's on here. Just come out to the team hotel once. Make your way down to the bar around 11PM - 12:30AM on a Saturday evening when its a big tournament. You'll find the clubs most corrupt coaches together with their teams parents having a good old time taking shot after shot together living it up like Greeks. Then on Sunday, pay attention to the kids who play the most or a coaches "tactical changes" where teams defenders suddenly become Strikers or Midfielders over night. In the end, blame the system everyone of us has created. We pay to have our kids play. Some just pay a little more then others.

U13 is great place to start. The bar taps are in insane. The deals are made at the bar after some shots and always during after hours, usually after midnight. Pay for play is not always exchanged with money. Treating the coach to many thrills is the key to play time. Fat shaming starts around this age as well when the girl loses her speed and God forbid your dd starts her first period right before the scouts show up to a big game. I actually knew a coach rip into a girl who gained weight over the summer break and she was fat shamed in front of her peers. Then the boys start making fun of her because she grew up faster. It's sick world we all find ourselves in. These losers use girls to get free shit and a nice living. If you're a good looking coach with a nice accent and nice fitness, well, you gain access to other things as well. Money always works the best but........

Rumor mill is heating up with May 1st looming.

Spotlight is on Blues at the moment. I think most of the starters stay in tact, with the departure of arguably the best player.
The bench will be exiting stage left.
The blame game starts with the coach and the 2 dads that want to play the part of team GM's with different agendas, as well as competing futsal programs. Coach let this spin out of control.

Koge will be the beneficiary of star pieces heading to their doors. Blues/Eagles girls are knocking.

You guys want more updates? The 2010 ECNL platform is like reality TV at the moment.
I swear there is a Netflix show waiting to be made that would be a giant hit.
Guys, I am on spring break and sitting this one out. Surf 10's have the opposite problem right now, too many good players on the roster. Age groups ebb and flow with good soccer players, and '10's are a particularly good birth year. I am sure the drama that is going on right now will settle down soon enough. I don't have any real intel on what is happening with the blues. That team is very good and unnecessary drama takes away from what should be pure joy. It is the coaches responsibility to manage and deal with the drama, but unfortunately they are trained in soccer, not team psychology nor crisis management.

Sit this one out? Weather is horrible for Spring break. The Blues will be find. When I was roaming the Ranch way back, let me tell you about the good players I saw every night. Olivia, Alyssa, Simone, Trinity, Sophie, Josie, Reilyn, Riley, Julie, Ella and so many more. Don't you guys have a open pool policy for all the best of the best around the West Coast? You guys at Surf offer full rides, right? Legends, Slammers and the rest of the best also offer free play and travel and these top clubs know how to recruit when it counts. Blues does not offer anything free unless your dirt poor and at around this age, the deals for free rides comes knocking on the Blues players and that is why mass exodus occurs. My dd was offered free from 4 of the 6 top clubs in Socal because we were promised free soccer in the GDA for the best of the best, just like the boys.

How does a coach at blues deal with the objection drama of,

Dad with a tight budget: Hey coach, my dd was just offered a free ride plus all travel expenses paid for and per diam for the road games at the dealership down the street. Can you match this amazing offer?

Coach: You can apply for assistance through our poverty program we offer for those who are poor in South OC.

Dad: I make way too much. Look coach, my dd is the leading scorer, never misses practices and is a great kid. Why not offer free like the others who develop top soccer players?

Coach: No free soccer, sorry dad

Dad: Sorry coach, were going to try the "greener" pasture. Good luck next year

Coach: Man, these parents are stuck up and full of themselves and always looking for a free handout.

I've seen this EXACT scene/situation unfold multiple times. Moms who never drink on the sidelines during games are suddenly drowning shots with the coach late night. Not to only pick on the ladies I've seen Dads buddying up to the coach late night playing the same game.

Nothing good (professionally) ever comes from high power drinks after 10pm.

General recommendation for coaches in this situation. The parents you're getting close with dont care about you. They just want to give their kid some kind of advantage. Also keep in mind that 5-10 other parents saw you drinking late with the buddy up parents + are pissed now.

This cuts both ways for sure. Poker on Friday night with coach and a few dads always changes things. First, dad buys the coach in and handles are re-buys and all the drinks coach wants. Dad then makes his move on coach after his 6th drink. Now, I did see some late night drinks with mama bear and coach on the road and I would go to bed wondering WTF was going on and this seems like a pay to play move and sus at best, since coach was married but. Yes, some Docs ended up dating one of the players moms and that is 100% a bad look, especially if dd went from the bench to starter after coach & mom hooked up. Dead give away, dead give away. One Doc I knew was a master at this game of "pay for play with mom" and he knew some moms will do whatever it takes to see their precious actually on the field playing in the big game. "Is there a Mr. Gump, Miss Gump?" coach would ask after taking his 5th shot as he tries to score. Lastly, one dad I knew was probably the smartest dad I know. He was able to secure a killer job for himself, free soccer for his dd + free travel and per diam for the road games. Player did not have to come to practice either and started every game.

Any truth to Abner, Blues Coach, being nervous and now actually recruiting for next season? This is something that his parents did for him… must be getting ‘real’ over there @Luis Andres

yo why you keep mentioning my name. I don’t post on here anymore. You want to talk. Call me send me a pm and we can meet up in person. I don’t talk to trolls only real people. You seem to care too much about this team why?

Some people hope for a train wreck. It’s not helpful. Eventually, we will drop this nonsense and go back to saying nice things about the kids.

@CharlieMurfee you seem to know a lot about this team. A lot more than I do and I thought I was the one having the juice. Like I mention before I have a few sources from the top teams in So Cal but they been quiet lately not sharing any information. But you seem to have it all. My source is thinking you must be one of the parents on the team. The one with the kid on the bench that gets no play time.

Murf is on the know for sure. This is the time of year when most of the top parents ((top parents=parents with a GOAT)) have had to sign NDAs. STFU or you will lose your special deal. I was told by 3 Docs during this time of my dd youth career ways back to be quiet, STFU or no deal. I kept my mouth shut until the other side lied and broke their NDA....lol, that was 5 years ago :)

This is correct… and the disfunction of this team is because of parents who want to be the GM… if parents can get out the way and let the kids play, this wouldn’t be a topic…

You make a very good point. I did not think about that. That’s why you are the wisest @crush You’ve been through it all and have seen it all.

I just think it’s sad that your DD isn’t getting the help or support she deserves and am wondering WTH is going on..

So let me get this straight. You are saying that a parent or two have hi jacked this team? They are the ones that control who plays and who does not play? That’s not what my source is saying. I was told that all players on that team need to earn their play time and perform. I was told that AR may have his opinion on who he considers are the soccer players on this team and who are the role players that are not even fulfilling their roles. He may be under a lot of pressure to win and that I may agree with you that whoever these so call GM parents are may have an influence over who stays on the field and who comes out based on the pressure to win. It seems that your kid is on the wrong team. Take her to a team where she can develop at her own pace and that is not really concerned about winning. From what I was told is that this team is trying to be the top team in the country . So if your kid is not working or producing like the rest, they are not a good fit. Blues are not a development program. They are always recruiting the best players to win games under their own creative freedom. Their is no structure like you see in Surf. They take more of a Brazilian approach to just letting them play and develop. Iron sharpens iron. So if your kid is not iron then she will not fit in. This coming from the mouth of my source. So don’t expect development at your kid’s pace. Show up and perform or find another team next season.

It's unfortunate to read some of the Blues parents responses.

Have played against + practiced with (a couple of times) the team through the years. My kid thought all the Blues girls were very nice and that they were very good as a team. Also, we both thought Abner was/is a very nice guy. Personally I thought it was interesting how soft spoken + laid back he is. Goes to show that you dont need to yell and scream at players to win.

But who knows, maybe being too soft spoken is why players are looking elsewhere. Maybe being nice is what certain parents are taking advantage of.

Just wanted to turn the thread around with some positivity + outside perspective. ;-)

Experience is the only way wisdom comes. The old days of recruiting (stealing) other teams top players can only work with a dad who can be GM and then would do all the work for you as coach. It's a gift. I was the GM in Temecula for 1 year back in the day and got a lot of hate because of splitting up the Legends South team and instead took our fire power up North. I was used as a pawn and never did it again. Car pooling was the key to pulling this off but it sure pissed off the locals and I wish I wasn't used like that. It was wrong and one of the few mistakes I made in youth soccer....lol. When she got to blues and Tad, I learned how insane and competitive the parents were and I decided to go solo and just focus on my baby goat and make sure she makes no excuse and works hard. Tad had no GM. He and Rob worked the fields and did recruiting the right way, moo. My dd worked hard and the team won all the time. The problem with this old GM model for coach is if coach pisses off his GM. GM Father can now take all the top goats, say bad things about the former coach (club) and preach and sell how amazing the new coach, club are and how "green" the greener pasture is. It's crazy.....

Excellent point. I’m beginning to understand what is really going on here. I know a few of the parents on this team as well and we have met them up from down south to a few camps in OC to train with the Blues girls. It seems to be a problem of some parents expectations not aligning with other parents and AR’s inability to manage that because of him being too soft spoken and too quiet. I think this parent issue is an issue that many parents will face when trying to be on a top team. Unfortunately my DD does not play for any of these top teams so we don’t face that. We have our other issues. lol. I’ve heard similar stories from Surf parents and Eagles parents. But they don’t get publicized like they do here. This is the classic tale of a disgruntled parent not getting the play time he or she thinks his DD deserves vs parents who expect these kids to be at the same level of their kids and require performance. This leads to kids sitting on the bench. That’s why my advice to him is to find a less competitive environment where his DD does not have this kind of pressure. At the top. It’s a shark eat shark world. Capitalism at its finest. Survival of the fittest…

Kind of...

Abner being nice to the players is likely the only time of the day when their overly aggressive parents arent hounding them for performance/results.

I do agree that Blues are playing a very high level of soccer for 12yr old girls. If your kid isnt playing it might be time to move on. Theres lots of options in OC for players that want field time but arent getting it at Blues.

You might want to pull back on the Steel v Steel type comments. Playing at a high level often brings injuries. Say your kid breaks their leg + cant play for 6 months. In a true "Steel v Steel" environment this would mean your kid is now replaced + if the replacement is better your kid is off the team. These are children + not professionals. Going all in on competitiveness will cause more problems then it solves.
