1-0 Legends v La Galaxy Sd.

Great game. Galaxy gave legends everything they could handle. Centerback from Legends was a stud. Legends is kick ball city. Incredible save by Legends keeper to keep game from ot. Galaxy let up only 2 goals from Surf and Legends in last 2 games. Incredible defense. Legends vs Surf finals I think. Legends sideline out of control. Parent thrown out??

Saw some competitive futbol this evening at Ryan Park! The fields left a ton to be desired but all teams had the same crapola conditions. The scores absolutely showed the competitiveness and parity at the age group.

Some general observations:

- Unlike last year, most of the top teams aren't out after the first knockout round!
- Saw much less kickball than I expected. Teams are really working to play some type of possession play. Even on these fields it was nice to see the little ladies try to work the ball around!
- Saw some tough play but nothing dangerous. Again, teams with the character of playing aggressive seem to have actually learned the right ways to use their bodies

Some amazing surprises! Great so see Strikers North and Albion battle it out. That group of girls is putting it together!

Another early exit at the age group for Blues. Check the other thread, looks like they are retooling for next year.

SDSC!!! Holy cow! They are hitting at the right time!!!

Beach vs Beach was interesting! Beach SB hasn't had a single game with the full team. Both teams fought it out!

I wish I could have watched that Legends game! I saw the goalie out at midfield in the last minutes for LAG SD and knew it was close!

LAGSB vs SoCal Academy was closer than the score line! Fast game with lots of shots and tough play!!!

Surf and Hotspurs was another fun one to watch. Surf was equalized by the bouncineness of the surface!

Tomorrow's games may lead to most of the strong teams winning out. Maybe a Cinderella will emerge and knock a big off! But, the LAGSB vs Anaheim Surf game should be the game of the day!

Anahiem should win this one. LAGSB is a tough team, but Anaheim seems to show up when it matters against tough competition.

Have to applaud FC Golden State for keeping true and working out of the back.

Sorry I missed this post. I know that coach Carlos & Gabe both have much respect for each other. I was able to meet Gabe in Vegas and he really seems like a great coach. The Rebels girls definitely lived up to the good things that have been said about them. Was a fun game to watch. Will be entertaining to see both teams improve over the years.

Lone Wolf - I hoped you slept ok last night. You seemed a little sour. I thought Galaxy played a great game, their girls played extremely hard and pressured well. The Legends girls didn't play their best soccer and kicked it a bit much. I think the 40 goalie punts that were landing in our own penalty box with a 6' 4 " target (biggest 10 year old in age group ) had a little to do with some of the extra balls that needed to be cleared. Not sure on the incredible defense. Shots on goal Legends 32 Galaxy 3 ..The Galaxy team better step up and purchase your keeper Disneyland passes for the whole family. I heard she was good. WOW. She is an amazing keeper. I was blown away on how good she was. She is your D .................Your sidelines might seem a little quieter due to half of your parents are watching the game behind the goalie net and had a couple watching from our sidelines ... No parent ejections .. :)

Can't remember if he said he was keeping that group. I hope so would love to play them again. We need more games like that.

Anaheim vs Galaxy game was a great battle between the ladies. Sadly, decided by a ref on a 'handball' call outside the box in the last 20 seconds. Side ref had flag up on an offsides call but it was called off. At the end of the day, both teams fought hard and played with tenacity on some really horrible fields.

Unfortunately, I have most assuredly learned of another coach my daughters will never play for! Actually watched a coach running on the filed and cheering mightily in front of other 06 ladies and then actually screaming at the opposing coach something about 'let's take it to the parking lot.' Oh, and refusing to shake the opposing coaches hand at the end of the game. Nothing but class and a great example!

Also great to see Strikers North making it to the semis! So great to have seen those girls come watch our LAGSB girls play last night and cheering them on after a hard fought battle in the bracket play! Those kids and parents have class. Should be a great rematch with Surf.

Good luck in the semifinals Legends!

Great battle, but one call didn't decide the game. Looked like the right call from where we were sitting.

Agree on the coach and fields though.

Good luck to everyone still playing next weekend.

Saw that as well. I can't believe another coach would behave that way, at this level, in front of 10 & 11 year old girls. It's an embarrassment and utterly unacceptable behavior. I've seen some very poor parent and coaching behavior this weekend. It's so nice when it's just about the players and the kids can play, antics aside, and respect between teams. You guys looked great, that handball was questionable and to have that in the last seconds after that battle:( Kudos to your coach, he tried very hard to end that on a positive note and the handshake refusal was just...wow, and the offer to take it further and fight over a game. Very unfortunate, thankfully you'll have plenty more battles to come as these kids continue to matchup in league and tourneys.

We were out at Ryan Park last night and again this morning for the Quarterfinal round.

Field conditions were an embarrassment considering this is the knockout round phase of the tournament. Every time the ball rolled on the ground it'd hit a patch of dirt or weird patch of grass and pop straight up. To quote Donald Trump, "Sad!"

I noticed a lot of young referees. And with young (inexperienced) referees you're going to get bad calls. A LOT of bad calls. They allowed way too much pushing and shoving in the two games I watched, but at least they were calling it bad both ways. That being said, grown adults who curse out teenagers for making bad calls should be ashamed of themselves.

Congrats to all the hard working ladies out there doing their best despite every x-factor that comes with the territory.

Surf hit their stride against CDA Slammers and is playing good at the right time.

Strikers North and SDSC were both playing with house money and Strikers FC continues their remarkable run.

Anaheim Surf vs. Galaxy was everything and then some. Every time Anaheim plays another top squad things seem to play out in dramatic fashion and this was no exception.

Legends FC keeps pace and got it done against Beach.

Semi-Finals
Surf vs. Strikers North
Anaheim Surf vs. Legends

Surf and Strikers meet again and the game will be played at a good venue that should allow Surf to play their style. This game will come down to Surf and if they can capitalize on their opportunities. Last time they faced Strikers, the game slipped away with the draw as Strikers has a knack for PKs.

Anaheim and Legends, yet again. Nothing more to say then this will be an all out battle and war. It's been that way every time these two teams have squared off. I have a feeling this one will be intense both on and off the pitch.

Best of luck to all the little ones next weekend. I'm hoping to be at Silverlakes to watch the Legends game as my DD's have the weekend off in prep for National Cup.

Young referees are not as much of the problem as are parents and coaches that drive our young referees out of the game. My son (13) and I ref'ed a "President's U11" game last week. He didn't want to AR the "parents" side because ... parents. Can't blame him. Its not as much the parents getting on him as he just doesn't want to hear the abject stupidity of uneducated parents that have no idea what a "handling" foul is or why he didn't raise his flag for a player being in a legitimate offside position that makes no play on the ball or the fact that a kid falls down while challenging for a ball doesn't mean there was a foul.

What you will find with almost all of these "young" referees is they are club players that know the game better than 99% of the parents on the sideline. I'm proud to call them my colleagues. They actually practice and play the game and understand its a contact sport. They know that there is a spectrum of based on the skill of the players. Shoulder charges, pushing between equally sized kids, a little hip check gets called at the Rec level ... but not President's cup.

But there is a something you and all parents that complain about the "young referees" can do:
http://www.calsouth.com/en/referees/how-to-be/

That said, most young referees do suffer from a flaw ... they take too much crap from parents and coaches and don't shut it down quick enough.

Finally, I respectfully disagree with this comment: "...grown adults who curse out teenagers for making bad calls should be ashamed of themselves." These morons should not only be ashamed of themselves ... they should be prohibited from being a spectator in any youth sport activities. There simply is no place at the amateur sports level for any person to verbally abuse another person for making a judgment call.

Was there an issue at Presidents?

Was there an issue at Presidents?
Last week there was 1 issue with an experienced Ref misunderstanding the header rule and applying a DOGSO foul (and Red card) incorrectly. There was also the same tired issue of the parents/managers of the losing team complaining of poor referees, namely the referees allowed the kids to play.
