That this is your take speaks loudly on your grasp and understanding of the political landscape. A steady hand? At what? Walz is about as progressive as they come, just check his record - to many parents, he's a disgusting pig. He may be to your liking, but to many independents, especially mothers, he's disgusting. He's an extremist when it comes to abortion, an extremist when it comes to child gender issues... so gross. Don't peek into the shenanigans of his wife, she's more wacko than he is. Shapiro should have been the pick - bright guy, rather moderate and popular in his state. Who is this maga base you so childishly reference, like the monsters under the bed? He is a first term governor who beat a walk over opponent. He’s a great choice, but the Dems have a deep bench. We once again have an election based on hope and aspiration vs fear, hate and division. We have Harris/Walz who are overly qualified, energetic, forward looking and respectful vs . . . well we all know.
