Pateadores Girls DA 03/04 - Observations

Okay, so round 2 of the Pats tryouts is done for the 03 and 04 age groups. I only saw the last ten minutes of the 04 tryouts, so nothing to share there. I do have some observations for the 03 age group:
  • More players at this tryout than the first tryout. I would say between 50-60 tonight. Strikers OC and Pats were represented well.
  • Weather was good for the first 70 of the 90 minutes. Then the rain came and made things a little different. Cold and windy at the end.

At the end of the tryout, NP gathered the parents and shared some more information......(I want to state that it was raining and my umbrella made it harder to hear NP, so I may have some of these details wrong - sorry)
  • He said that at the recent GDA meetings, the Academy II teams were sanctioned (I think that was the word he used) by US Soccer. Not sure what that means but I suspect it is good.
  • He said that 4 of the 13 GDA teams in the Southwest Division will not participate in the new Academy II League, so there will be 9 teams involved. He did not state the names of the 4 who will not participate.
  • As stated before, the Academy I teams will be fully funded, including travel for the players.
  • Only 4 GDA teams across the country will offer fully funded programs. Pats and LAG are the only ones on the West Coast. The other two are East Coast clubs (he did not say the names).
  • The cost for the Academy II teams will be $2300. This includes uniforms and practice gear.
  • There will be three showcase events with the GDA. One is in Arizona, another in Florida and the other is in Indianapolis. One was in April, one in June and the last in December. I think the April showcase will be April of 2018?
  • Dan Richards will coach the 03 Academy II team. I think NP will coach the 03 Academy I team. Remember that Pats will use a team of coaches throughout the year.
  • There will be more open tryouts in January and February. He encouraged all players to keep coming out to all future open tryouts.
  • Offers will start very soon for the Academy I and II teams.
  • Pats is in the process of developing a GDA page on their website with more information.

I hope this helps.

How many ecnl t players did you observe?

Zero point Zero.

I suspect the South OC ECNL coaches had some "conversations" with their current 03 ECNL players about the Pats DA tryouts recently. Those parents don't need to worry though, I am sure the Pats coaches have already sent emails (or made phone calls) to the 03 ECNL players that top their wishlists.

Realistically, how many non ecnl players are going to fill the Da's? A random few? How many current ecnl players are going to fill the ecnl teams? I would suspect the majority of non ecnl players will play on a reserve Team or ecnl team next season? Kudos to parents who are taking their dd's out to da tryouts that are currently playing on 2nd and 3rd teams. Great idea to see if your dd has the skillset and mindset to play at the highest level.

I think you will be surprised, certainly in the 03 group. Based on two head-to-head games this season, DeMelo's team is on par with Blues Bobak. Hodson's and Legends 03 are also very strong teams (I only mention these two because I have seem them play multiple times). Actually, Bobak surely disagrees with you as well, according to the many times (no less than 7 by my own account) that he has attended non ECNL games in the last few months.

Kudos to you

Beach is going to be so strong.
I would love to know if that DA league for the reserves team is actually going to happen because if it is that is the difference between going to EC NL try out versus singing with a DA on the reserve team

Humbling is the word I use. Talent so deep! For us all of my dd friends on ecnl are trying to get on DA and if they can't get on the DA at their club they're trying to look and see if they can get on the DA at another club versus stay on ECNL. I think if US soccer announced in the following year that it would be singleband we wouldn't see as much movement because why move the club if your daughters on an EC NL team but would probably make the band the next year

DA II league is happening based on meeting in Chicago and all but 4 SoCal teams have agreed that second club tier will be DA II -vs- ECNL. The 4 big ECNL clubs are the only clubs that have not agreed at this time (I am sure you can figure out who they are and possibly understand why); but, they are going to succumb unless they want to play each other and some lower level teams. The word on the street is the remaining clubs 3rd level might be ECNL IF they even participate.

Sorry if I missed the answer to my question here - I tried looking back through this thread as best I could, but wasn't able to locate it...so here is it.

Has there been any discussion about DA II team players and high school soccer participation?

I know DA I team players cannot play high school soccer...and ECNL players can play high school soccer...what about DA II?

Sorry again if this was answered already...but any insight/clarification is appreciated.

No. DA II follows the same training instruction controlled by US Soccer.

Reserve can play high school.
DP can as well.
If you get "called up" though to academy status the answer is no
