Pateadores Girls DA 03/04 - Observations

No. DA II follows the same training instruction controlled by US Soccer.

You seem to always be right but that is not what we heard at Pats?
Sorry if I gave misinformation I was told they are not officially academy and that reserve is a moniker and not really a place on the team so they can

Sorry if I missed the answer to my question here - I tried looking back through this thread as best I could, but wasn't able to locate it...so here is it.

Has there been any discussion about DA II team players and high school soccer participation?

I know DA I team players cannot play high school soccer...and ECNL players can play high school soccer...what about DA II?

Sorry again if this was answered already...but any insight/clarification is appreciated.
Bababooey had said:
2. Pats will not allow Academy team players to play HS soccer. The Academy II players can play HS soccer, but if those players get "promoted" to the Academy team, they will be expected to stop playing HS soccer. This would seem to potentially create some weird scenarios.

I am not always right - I might have misheard; but, I can verify. I was told they are following the US Soccer model for DA II.

Got it...and appreciated - I thought I read that before...just couldn't find it when I tried to back-track through this thread.

My understanding is Pats is fully funded (everything paid - clothing, travel, etc.) and LAG is just club fees and clothing. There will be travel to 3 major cities and potentially AZ since one of the teams is in AZ for this group.

BTW - LAG supposedly is including travel costs; so, again I was wrong but then this info might be wrong :). Also, other clubs (you can imagine who based on revenues) are going with $0 club fees but not fully funded for $0 cost soccer to the player (travel, etc.). I would hope current ECNL players/parents can get this information from their coach now.

I think you will be surprised, certainly in the 03 group. Based on two head-to-head games this season, DeMelo's team is on par with Blues Bobak. Hodson's and Legends 03 are also very strong teams (I only mention these two because I have seem them play multiple times). Actually, Bobak surely disagrees with you as well, according to the many times (no less than 7 by my own account) that he has attended non ECNL games in the last few months.
03 age group is uber talented, I agree. I would love to know how many current non-ecnl players will play for Bobak next season, besides his current discovery players? Inquiring minds would like to know. Maybe a few if that? Do any of the Blues players on the 2nd team who won SCDSL Tier 1 move to DA or will they form part of the Ecnl Team? Beach and Legends will be competitive next season and I think they will even add some ecnl players to their already strong rosters making them an even greater force. If Strikers and Arsenal ecnl players decide to play Da, whichever da clubs get these players, will be very lucky picking up some stud soccer players. I truly hope that Da's will be able to roster only top stud players while not diminishing the talent on their current ecnl teams. I am not a fan of turning the egsl team into the ecnl team, that will destroy Ecnl. I am not truly sold that this can happen due to the amount of da's around Cal South and believe the ecnl talent on most da clubs will be diminished, except for Strikers and Arsenal depending on what their players decide to do? I personally think it would be better to be on a strong ecnl team than a reserve Team, but once again it depends on what the player's goal is and who the coaches are. Go where the player is going to receive the most development vs the name. I think there are pros and cons to both. A lot of decisions to be made in the coming months for all of us.

You keep referring to the 03 ECNL players. What were they called last season or the season before? GDA is going to hurt a lot of parents feeling and egos. See the movement of the big name coaches and you will figure it all out. Do not take a DA offer as a joke. Next joke might not be as funny.

I think there is a big underestimation of how many top level players want to play high school soccer. Time will show who and how many.
That is the key question for the 03 age group and older. What players want to play high school? Who will give up odp and high school for da? Who wants to play encl and odp and high school? A very difficult decision to be made for all of our dd's. Everyone's decision should be made for the best interest of their dd and not what their friend is doing. What do all of the 01 and 02 Baker players do? Continue playing ecnl? What do the Baker players playing currently at J Serra with their club coaches do? Maybe the 01's play da and the 02's play ecnl or vice versa and flip flop it the next year? A part of me wishes gda came 5 years from now and wouldn't impact us.

White/Black/Red Team players? A/B/C Team players?

Well for those of us outside so cal it's a losing situation. Being told that there are no allowances for "discovery" kids who aren't able to make 3-4 practices a week. And then this random second da "reserve" league. That's just a way to try and keep the girls who don't make the team from going ecnl.

So even though my daughter can (and has) played, competed, and started with ecnl level players, made odp and regional, etc; she (and girls in the majority of the USA will be too far away to even consider playing DA.

So is us soccer saying that the only talent worth seeing is on the coasts or in Texas?

Hopefully the big 4 will refuse to participate in the DA reserve, and maintain some ecnl competition for the region.

@TheDriver how will GDA hurt feeling and egos? If a girl is truly thriving at this level, there will be a place for her.

OH those broke up with the age change deal. Once again da tryouts are for players and not teams. I can assure you that spots are being filled for every DA team in the area. Take any DA offer seriously if one is thrown your way. I hope those patches are stitched on because a lot of parents seem to be tugging onto them.

Well word on the street is that some coaches who also coach high school are telling everyone that their players who play at their high school and club who are "on scholarship at the school" will still be able to play high school. No kidding heard that - so they found a loophole. I believe the exact quote was "we will just give every girl a 250$ scholarship to high school"...

I think it is going to be an honor for any dd to make a da team on any club. I think it also will be an honor to be on an ecnl team for the right club with the right coach and teammates. I personally don't believe in "reserve" teams as I have watched what has happened to the "reserve players" that play for Slammers this season and I am not sure many of those players saw the time of day getting the opportunity to play in many if any ecnl games. I think they were sold a dream and didn't really live that dream. I am not sure they will be living that Slammers Reserve Dream again next season? Maybe Da II Reserve Team won't be the same but I wouldn't hold my breath if I was those players on playing an actual Da game. Pats Da even said that "Reserve teams will be a combination of all Pateadores top flight players as well as local Orange County talent." There was 1 Pats IER Team that played Tier 1 in the Fall, all of the rest of the Pats Teams played Tier 2 and Tier 3 in the Fall. Does that mean the 03 Pats Reserve Team will consist of Tier 2 and 3 Pats players? How competitive will this team be? They would be better off with Tier 1 Egsl players from outside the club. I guess at the end of the day it depends on how many key injuries happen to the top Team and if / when the reserve player gets the call. As I have said many times, NO club will field 2 top teams. There isn't enough uber talent to go around in Cal South.

Winner winner chicken dinner. My player wouldn't give it up. I tried to get her to then I realized it was a losing battle and she really enjoyed it.

Honor? Your daughter is already committed to a top 25 soccer program. To the DA it should be an honor for them for her to play for them. And I like ZK and WK.
