Going to school and pursuing pro soccer are not mutually exclusive. The teenagers signing with NWSL are being home schooled, aka taking HS online. There is no barrier to them transitioning from that to college online while they pursue their soccer "dream".Social Media followers.... Otherwise it makes no sense. Unless you think you will turn into Alex Morgan but then again why not just do that in college and then have the education to fall back on. I will never understand the 14 year old girls going into the pro's. I mean they are forgoing all school. Some have never been to a day of regular school in their lives. To me that's just sad and the parents should be ashamed of themselves.
I agree with you.MLS already has all the players they want/need. They have their MLS roster, their reserves in MLS Next Pro, affiliations with USL teams, and MLS academies. If you add it all up, they have 100+ players in their direct ecosystem. While they are always looking at/for players, they don't need another layer, i.e. college. They certainly don't need to pay for it or commit to it.

However if college was structured correctly with the right rules 2nd or 3rd level pro leagues could be swapped out in favor of college leagues. Its Free! All MLS, USL, NWSL need to do is provide leadership, guidance, and a definition of standards to college programs and coaches.

Less than 40% of 18-22 year olds are in college. That's the age group that would be pertinent here. Those that want to, and can play soccer to a high level, can currently play in a variety of leagues in the soccer pyramid, and they don't need to attend a college to do it OR they can also attend college while they do it. I know kids in college and also playing in the UPSL. They are still chasing the dream but also getting their education.
About 6% of college students are also college athletes. About 2% of those athletes go pro. So you are talking about something like 0.12% of college students total. That's for all sports.Its free to MLS USL + NWSL.
But yes not free to the taxpayer or college student.
I guess i just view college anything as a training ground for gaining some kind of skill you can use professionally.
Some schools play 3 games on those dates. They could play for 12 hours straight on those dates. It’s still a joke with college programs limited to 6 dates in the springtime. Compare that to a European academy and it’s plainly visible why college players do not transition well to MLS/NWSL Or European lower level clubs.Many schools play two games on those dates giving 10-12 games in the spring.
Housewives and club soccer coach.That's what I don't understand either. I mean if it was big money involved, like basketball, football, baseball.......I could understand. But some of these girls are foregoing college and not getting a lotta money. What's the draw? I always wonder, what's the plan for these girls after NWSL?

I see and know many former college soccer players that coach 3 or more teams for major youth soccer clubs. Some are club directors. Nothing wrong with this.LOL Yep.
