Nature doesn't exclude any players, complete or not. We've seen plenty of fantastic 15 year olds hit puberty late because they were home schooled to do soccer, and then slow down dramatically because of puberty. The speed goes down and the turning ability slows down because when nature comes for you, it doesn't care how complete of a player you are.
Those kids that don't know how to handle high school drama will struggle to handle work place/college (pro team) drama.
Then you have the non home schooled kids that eventually catch up to those that are home schooled. There's a max to everything. It's like learning to read, early readers might learn how to do it first and focus on it to be the fastest but eventually over time, kids will catch up as they continue to learn how to read unless there's a reading genius. Same thing as soccer.
Just to clear things up. I was never referring to good solid players that may go forward or backward one day during high school. I’m referring to the obvious goats. the ones that have stood out from 5 years old until now. Like @Carlsbad7 mentioned you guys are not understanding the type of player being discussed. I’m referring to the Sophia Smiths, the Trinity Rodman, the Alyssa Thompson’s . They all have the special athletic gene and there is no drop off or slowing down. They just keep getting better over time. Like I said they can be counted on 1 hand.
Yep when you see one they can’t be missed. They are obvious from a very young age and by 14/15 they are at top of the food chain. Girls mature early. If you don’t have the goods by 14/15 you will never be a Goat. Not say you can’t improve or become a good player but these girls were born to play, naturally athletic and their work ethic is second to none. That’s why refer to them as GoatsThese players are also called, "Can't miss talent." We see them with our eyes and our eyes don't lie, only the heart does. The mind also plays tricks on the parents. Eyes don't lie, fact check that. 100% you count these best of best on each hand. These greats need to be challenged by the next best, not dirty politics. Pay for play and "pay me to make your kid elite" is hurting our top, top players. I saw it with the Girls Development Academy. What kind of parent(s) truly wanted that guarantee to start 25% of the time? What in the wide world of sports is this kind of competition? Total BS. Also, Sockma says that kids that are home schooled start puberty late, is that true to all the home schoolers out there?
Yep, the girls’ team that beat us last night had a player who’s been on the cover of Sports Illustrated apparently. She got a hat-trick.Yep when you see one they can’t be missed.
that must be a goat for sure.Yep, the girls’ team that beat us last night had a player who’s been on the cover of Sports Illustrated apparently. She got a hat-trick.
I googled girl that plays soccer on sports illustrated and this result came up. Was this the player?Yep, the girls’ team that beat us last night had a player who’s been on the cover of Sports Illustrated apparently. She got a hat-trick.
Yeah, that’s her (wasn’t sure of the policy on naming players here). The team played in those colors too, so I’m assuming it’s the team that won back to back national Futsal championships (there’s an LA Times article about her), so no shame in losing to them: they were a joy to watch, plus our boys did manage to frustrate them for long periods in both halves which was a valuable experience. They just couldn’t keep their concentration and let in soft goals towards the end of both halves.I googled girl that plays soccer on sports illustrated and this result came up. Was this the player?
I know exactly who that is and she plays for Blues 2012. She is one of the 2012 Goats out there that can be counted on one hand. I know her from reading the 2012 forum. I hear she plays up with u14 teams. Natural athleteYeah, that’s her (wasn’t sure of the policy on naming players here). Not sure who their two outfield boys were either, but they were legit too.
I actually do understandI don't think you understand the level or type of players being discussed.
Not a homeschooler but am a medical professional. Home school/public school/private school have nothing to do with puberty. Biologically a young lady will change when their body tells them it’s time to do so. Some will develop at a faster pace than others, but where you do your homework has zero to do with it.These players are also called, "Can't miss talent." Now excessive exercise as elite players tend to do, can slow down the onset of a young girl getting their cycle. But again has nothing to do where they go to school.
Maybe Sockma was talking about that?

Just to be clear while I do agree certain players are definitely heads and shoulders above their competition.Just to clear things up. I also stated that these are the type of players that should be on the USWNT, practicing with an NWSL team, or on a youth Academy team (if that was available for girls).
Playing on an age bound youth team just for wins is a waste of time for these type of players.
Well thank you. No I don’t mind sharing, I worked in physical therapy with a specialization in sports rehab. I now have moved over into public health. More money in it but not as fun! But we got to pay for all this soccer!OK, I see what you're saying. Basically, if you home school for soccer reasons and play 24/7 you might be over working the body and the girl can be late. It's good to have a medical professional on here and I mean that. What kind of medical if you don't mind if I ask? I ask because I want to know why so many girls are going down with ACL injuries and does it have anything to do with being on their period? My kid just got back from Spain, and her old team had something like 10 ACL injuries in two years. The girls over there play on shitty fields. They call it, "the curse of the turf." You would think after the ladies won world cup, they would be treated better but nope, they are last.
Lots of GOATs when the kids are young. However, the true goats rise to the top. I think you have a healthy perspective. My dd just wanted to play against the goats and maybe catch one napping. Beating a true goat can change a player and give her the confidence that she can hang with the goats. No girls team is a team of goats in club. Let's not forget OM. I think she went first, no? I also believe some girls would never play with the boys.I agree. They need a special type of training & development. Times are changing fast and the girls game is also evolving. The clubs that can provide this type of environment for elite girls will win in the future. We are seeing many more girls go train and play with MLS boys since AT opened that door. ECNL and GA clubs need to allow their top female talent train with boys and also play with boys. The clubs that can provide that dual environment will be the winners in the future. Like I’ve mentioned before I would love for mine to play with boys so she can develop that edge but I’m not delusional like many dads I know. I’m honest to myself knowing she does not have the God given talent like some of these goats have. She will only get so far given her genes. She is still a good player that plays in ecnl, but she is not a goat. I’ll be the first one to say it and admit it. If I don’t take care of her athleticism she can easily go backwards like others have mentioned.

Young females are more prone to ACL tears after they have started their menstrual cycle. Since women’s sports has recently grown there is not enough data to tell us exactly why. But it is being studied. The current evidence is pointing to hormones in females, the biomechanics (body movements) due to having larger hips than males. Also, females generally have lower muscle mass/strength than males. That muscle protects our joints/tendons etc. There are also some suggestions that the turf may be a problem.
The current tendency in youth sports is to play all the time. An athletic child may really enjoy it but it will show on the body at an earlier age. Many young athletes are developing tendinitis, arthritis at younger ages. Proper strength training, stretching is really important for these young athletes. Many clubs do not offer that, even for their elite teams. If you have an injury, can’t perform, then it’s on to the next kid. So it’s up to the parent to protect the child. And it’s ok to REST! We have one body for the rest of our lives. I know it’s fun & really cool to see your kid on top but we really need to look at the full picture.
I understood his comment to mean that someone was probably overstating this player's impact and he was being a bit tongue-in-cheekChill out!!! They are still kids. Not sure what point you’re trying to make with this. I was simply commenting on how the drama of youth soccer is funny. These parents constantly team hopping and withholding information as if this is a pro draft is ridiculously funny to me. I disagree that a 14/15 year old needs to involved with an NWSL club. You are clearly over looking the mental and social well being of children.
