How’s the 2023-24 season going?

AR and TB are two of the pioneers in girls' soccer in OC. He ran Laguna Hills Eclipse and personally developed Amy Rodriquez to the player she is today. Amy came to Blues college night to share her story about how Blues cut her, and she was sad but found the great Abner to make her the player she is. AR also developed the great Marta to become the player she is today. I got to see his practices up close for half a season and his practices were professional and very solid.

Where did you get that photo? Awesome photo!

We'll see how it goes.

As I said Abner seemed very nice. But im not sure his style holds up in the game the way its played today. The fact that he was blindsided by players leaving his team says a lot to me.
The way the game is played today by US Soccer … and we can debate all day if that will hold up!!

The thing about Abner is that he has proven ties to the USWNT and top colleges like UCLA. Ten years ago he had the Midas touch + if he pushed for a player they were moved to the front of the line. I doubt he's forgotten who to call to make things happen when he wants to.

Things are slowly starting to change. College soccer is starting to get played on TV + women's pro teams can actually fill the stands. Because of this the level of competition is going up. This puts pressure on recruiters to find more and more talent + king makers like Abner have less sway over who makes it to the next level.

The Midas touch lmao. It's sad to even think this type of stuff could still be happening, but I'm glad that women's soccer is becoming more popular.

Stats don’t lie. They went from being one of
the top teams in the nation to an inconsistent average team in a spiraling downfall in just a matter of months.
There haven't been any changes to the roster since they beat Surf 2-0 or tied Koge 1-1. The talent is still there but the chemistry is definitely off so who knows if they can get it back or not. Yes players were lost last season but it was known they were leaving. Only time will tell if its just a bump in the road for the 2010's or not. The Offense vs Defense overall rankings are interesting though....

It's odd to see that the team has the same players but their teamwork seems off. Typically, when new players are added to a team, it takes time for everyone to gel. This particular team began the season impressively but started to wobble as games went on. It's possible that rival teams have analyzed their game and discovered their weak points. A lot of times in soccer, if a team isn't consistent, the issue lies with the midfield. They're crucial because they bridge the defense and the offense. If they're not making good passes or controlling the flow of the game, it affects the team's ability to score and defend. Not being able to get enough chances to score goals can mentally affect the defensive players, more so if they're younger. Always being on the back foot and trying to catch up in a match can add pressure. I noticed these midfield issues when I watched the two games at the SD showcase. The team's control in the midfield wasn't as sharp as it was in the previous season, and they struggled to create scoring opportunities. The ranking in offense & defense further highlights this observation. Strong teams may have a bad game here & there like Surf did vs Heat. But across multiple games they will stay consistent. The main thing to highlight is their inconsistency vs teams ranked way below them.

This is true. I'm noticing more commercials for women's college soccer too and even men's college soccer. More people filling the stands. Women's Soccer needs a true promoter/ambassador to flood the market. I mean there are thousands upon thousands of instagram accounts of young ladies who play soccer. We need to be flooding to games and promoting the sport. Between the girls, their friends, mom and dad, coaches, etc. etc., what a market to capture! It's good to see it growing ghough.

The ptb need to focus on building the audience. Every youth girl soccer player parent should be watching women's soccer on tv and elsewhere. Build the audience and the rewards will come. Maybe soccer needs a more educated audience too as it's more like chess than checkers and American viewers are impatient and blood thirsty? Many don't understand how physical soccer is too. I feel like women's soccer has less flopping than mens too. The women have more to prove maybe and coaches look for physical/athletic players that don't fall down.

I just got wind that the ex SD surf Ecnl player that had gone to Blues this season is no longer with the team and has left Blues 2010 mid season. Can anyone confirm this? And why she left Blues? Well, I just checked the roster and she is no longer there. What is going with the Blues team?

She went back to Surf. I can only speculate on the reasons why so I won't add anything more than that.

ESPN being able to carry formerly pac 12 women’s games on their channels and ESPN+ next year will also help locally. Recent Pac 12 media strategy was a pants pooping of epic proportions across all sports.

Players leave for three reasons :
1.) Bad Coaching
2.) Playing Time
3.) Bad Culture

Having a chance to talk with family's over the last 3 months its amazing how bad it is out here. Some of these coaches put into a power position with little to no experience are destroying teams because of ego. If ECNL is the Best of the Best shouldn't the coaching be the same? If a coach is not willing to adapt to his teams abilities and what they do best but instead pushes for their own philosophy's and agendas the parents should push them out. Players shouldn't need to leave. Coaches should be fired. DOC's should be held accountable at this level as well do develop their coaching staff.

Effective coaching is critical to the success and growth of athletes and coaches should prioritize their players development over their own egos and agendas. Again, It's so important for clubs and organizations to hold coaches accountable for their actions and to provide resources for their coaches to continue to grow and improve as leaders. Ultimately, the well-being and success of the players should be the top priority for all involved. After all we are the ones paying their bills.

You're presuming there's this big pool of amazing coaches to pick from. The lack of high quality coaching is a massive problem in the US. As far as what coaches should be coaching -- pretty sure Spain just set the bar on that.

AR aka King Midas used to be THE coach back in the day. 10 years ago everything he touched turned into gold today they say he’s lost his touch. Not sure what the problem is with this year’s team or how they say he ruined the 06’s. But players leaving mid season is for sure not a good thing. He used to have the midas touch. I guess not anymore.C6409F89-3B8D-469D-8E8B-D30826A9819B.jpeg
