I just think it's important to keep in mind that for the overwhelming majority of kids, this will just shuffle teams around a bit, make it a bit harder to see what teams kids belong on, and cause some headaches with higher-level teams and scheduling, but otherwise will be a non-impactful change for most kids. It's really only the top-end of competitive leagues and teams where it's going to make any potential real difference with kids being shuffled around; the other 98% of kids playing won't notice much (aside from some current teammates and friends playing on other teams now).
I figure kids below ECNL probably won't be impacted much at all (aide from maybe some individual play time and/or parents being upset). In my son's club, for example, their NPL team is planning on staying composed as-is, and just playing up a year in the SY leagues and competitions. It's not like that makes any real difference, as long as you find a bracket which is competitive; these are not kids vying for starting roles on the "real" MLSN teams or anything, and HS soccer will probably be more impactful for their college potential soon anyway. My 2c, anyway.
