Get ready folks

So a HS Freshman doing honors and AP courses has an easier school load than a Sophomore doing no honors or AP courses ... what are you talking about? The school load in HS depends on the classes selected, not the grade you are in, with kids in 9-12 grades literally being in the same classes for many subjects.
On average.

Yes, if 12th grade > 11th grade > 10th grade > 9th grade in terms of expected school load. I don't think it's a bad assumption, it does get more challenging over time rather than less, and it doesn't stay level for most. Though there are certainly plenty of examples where an individual can have a very hard courseload junior year, and take it easy senior year - and any other example that people can think of.

On average.
On average the change is better for the majority of kids playing at levels which are not elite and which are therefore more social than competitive. At the top level, kids are (or absolutely should be) as concerned about their GPA as they are with their soccer. That GPA is important from day one in HS and the course load and strength is also extremely important, with player profiles highlighting GPA (weighted and unweighted) and with direct coach contact from the end of Sophomore year. Scholarships can be athletic or academic or a combo, but academic rigor is definitely important and tells you a story in itself about the player being courted.

I agree. The delay for a year is really short sighted. You’re going to have new teams formed and other teams attempt to recruit to improve their team, all with the understanding these teams may have a shelf life of one year?

You really might as well rip the band aid off and just figure it out now instead of being in this position next year. Delaying something that will
100% happen regardless is really dumb.
Saw an email that seems to confirm this is their approach. If going to change it- change now…(or don’t change at all). It makes no sense to delay it. At least if are switching ..we can use this year to integrate with the new team. Now it just seems like a year wasted.

Curious the source of this graphic? Following this saga closely as my daughter is currently a 2014 with a fall birthday. I hadn't thought about the possibility that her current team might be bumped into 11 v 11 if it changes to SY (looks like that is unknown based on that graphic). I had planned on likely keeping her "playing up" at least for one more year but as a GK I would definitely reconsider if they are going to have to move to 11 v 11 next fall.

If this is, in fact, the plan for SOCAL teams, what options will the trap year, 2013s and 2016s have? Since they're slotted to move to 11v11 or 9v9, will they have the option to choose to play another year of 9v9 and 7v7, or will they be forced to move up to the larger teams?

However it's done, there almost certainly isn't going to be a "choice". Splitting an age group now with some teams playing up a group and others not makes no sense. If a team does want to play up, they can register in the older bracket, like some top teams already do in the youngers.

Sounds like SOCAL is confirming internally they are waiting a year to implement the age change.
Are the SOCAL teams all being forced to wait a year? If I had a trapped year 2013 or 2016 child, I would absolutely not want to have their club/team delay for a year; my kid would be forced to play on a larger team for a year while losing another year of small (or smaller) sided games, and then have to switch in a year.

I'm all in favor of the change to 8/1-7/31 but having SOCAL delay for a year is a bad move.

A friend of mine was able to take a pic of it with his phone. Was shown by someone who works at US Club.

Smart clubs will play up. Clubs that delay will lose players and find it hard to recover. I expect most clubs will play up.

I don't understand how SOCAL thinks this would work? If ECNL teams will go SY for Fall 2025 then clubs with ECNL/RL would only have those teams switched over and any of their lower level teams would delay a year and have a different age range for that year?? Makes no sense. Are they trying to get clubs to defect to a different league because seems like thats a good way to do it.

I would imagine ECNL clubs like Surf and Rebel will switch all their teams to SY and play up in the local league.

My understanding is SOCAL already told clubs they are implementing for the following season, not the 2025 Fall season. Not sure what they are going to do here because it's going to cause a headache for tryouts.

Already can see so many coaches recruiting players this upcoming year knowing the team will be split the following year.

And the smart big ECNL clubs are going to take advantage of the small clubs with this approach by Socal. It really is a brilliant move by them to make the change a year early than everyone else and play their teams up a year. I guess it limits the player loss by smaller clubs this year and next. Such a shame SoCal isnt putting the players first but is that really unexpected for their leadership.

And if Socal decides to wait a year, will they "permit" any trap year players to move down a year (next year)? Where this could have real consequences is with the 2013 and 2016 trap year players, who would be moving to 11v11 next year (if Socal decides to wait a year before making the change). If they're permitted to move down next year, they'd be about to stay at 9v9 or 7v7 for one more year - - in essence moving to their team a year early?

Trap players will go to big clubs to join the SY team and play up to avoid the trap. That is why I said any club delaying the process will lose players.
