G2010 - How’s the 2022 season going?

seeding predicitions? Is it going to be chalk with what in rankings app. If so, will it look like this...

1. MVLA vs. 8. Bethesda
4. Slammers Koge vs. 5. Real Colorado National

2. Surf vs. 7. Indiana Fire
3. Blues vs 6. Eclipse
If this is correct…quarterfinal games will not be close. All CA semifinal. There’s levels to this game.

There will not be a seeding. It's predetermined based on playoff group play.

Bracket 1
Surf v. Blues
MVLA v. Real

Bracket 2
Eclipse v. Koge
Indiana v. Bethesda

That would be dumb to put 2 teams vs each other from the same conference in the quarters. Is this fact or are you assuming?

This is a fact.

Group play disallows teams from the same conference.

Round of 16 disallows play from the same playoff groups.

Round of 8 does not have any such provisions.

It’s not fact yet. Brackets or schedules have not been released for the finals. Based on what was in place for last year the above would be correct. Blues performed the best in playoffs and surf was second so to have the two best playoff round performing teams play eachother in the finals first in a knockout game would be a huge bummer. We shall see but odds are it stays the same format as last year.

Didn’t Surf lose a game and concede a health number of goals?

'09 PDA played Match Fit last year in the first game in Virginia. They are in the same conference.

Something isn't clicking for me about the Surf vs. Blues comments.
MVLA, Eclipse, Koge, all left the group stage with 9 points. Surf left with 6.

If you remove the club names. What is the believed match up? 1v2, 3v4? Or 1v8, 2v7, etc

Just poking around the results, but Eclipse went undefeated only allowing 1 goal over 4 games (in a 4-1 win), and Indiana got by Solar (and much of the state of Texas) and over Penn Fusion in the sweet 16 (Solar and PF are listed as top 10 teams) to get to the elite 8.

Any chance the California bias on this thread is showing?

ECNL is playing with different playoff formats and may have a group play where you are guaranteed 2 games and two brackets of 4 teams at the elite 8 stage. The highest point total from bracket a and b move on. They are experimenting and looking at best options. This is a business. Just relax it will all come out in due time. And nobody knows for sure. The youngers (parents) of all the groups get the most wound up. 3 yrs from now u guys won't be on edge. Enjoy the ride and be greatful your kids made it this far.

Your absolutely correct. Much better teams in total out there.

I was actually thinking of that same format instead of a one and done knockout format. Seems better for the girls to get two meaningful games instead of just one after getting so far. Yeah if you lose the first your probably done but in group play you never know so even if you lose that first the second could still mean something rather than just going to a consultation game.

If you have 2 brackets of 4 teams each wouldn’t that mean 3 games per team and a final?. How are teams only going to play 2 games and come on top of a bracket?

You can do a two game group state, but the team which avoided the strong opponent has an advantage.

I kind of wonder why they don’t just have regionals and nationals like a normal sport. Do we really need to spend $50,000 on hotels and airfare to find out whether 44th best team in the country is going to win it all this time?

As a side bonus, instead of complaining that the seedings are messed up - which they are, we could all complain that the SW regional is harder than the others - which it would be.

100% Truth. No one is talking about the U18/U19 Championship Elite 8.

Forgive us. I don't think we are too far off the mark in saying that SoCal has the best concentration of talent overall, or darn close. And after all, this site is called "socalsoccer.com" so I would be pretty surprised if there wasn't a SoCal bias.
There's another site "talkingsoccer.com" that is a toxic troll farm, but it seems to have a New Jersey bias, if you're looking for that.

ECNL always announces changes in their playoff formats in advance, not during a tournament (weather is the exception).

The system is done similar to college playoff brackets, where there is always a chance of a cinderella winning it all.

The final 8 is set, rather than final 4 because it makes more sense for college scouts and because it's done over 2 events rather than more.

No one is placed at a disadvantage because teams 2,3,4 of the groups are done randomly and the southwest didn't have to play each other during group play, allowing many southwest teams to win their groups and qualify for the round of 16.

It is frustrating when you have to travel across the country and play someone in your backyard but when you're in the conference in the country, this might happen at playoffs and championship series.

Very proud of the performances by southwest teams in playoffs, even the ones that didn't make it to Virginia.

Aren't we all lucky that we get to play extremely great teams multiple times throughout league play? The challenging season better prepares the teams for playoffs.

I drink the SoCal kool-Aid right along with you. One of the most surprising things to me of the elite eight results in this age group is the complete absence of any representation from Texas. That said, I wouldn’t sleep on the non-California teams that did make it through, Del Mar was a gauntlet and it doesn’t seem like there were many easy routes to the Elite 8, that’s all I’m saying. Disagree?
