No, not almost everyone.
Most people manage to keep their private life private. It's just basic politeness.
So, maybe you want to go see a theater show with a naked blue Dionysus hosting the last supper. Ok. Enjoy your night out.
But it's rude to broadcast that same show to millions of people who don't share your taste, and have no desire to see it.
At some point, it's just LGBTMI.
I see you don’t spend much time on tik tok. I thought you taught at one point at least so you must be in tune with what’s going on out there…just a handful of examples…the issue is you’ll notice the ones you agree with a discount the ones you don’t:
-politics as a religion and cults of personality
-soccer parents assaulting refs
-30 something women complaining about their biological clocks ringing
-swifties, pitch perfects, hawk tuah & sorority tik tokers
-20 something incel men complaining there are no women to date
-karens
-one issue occupy protestors
-one issue grievance culture
-dog (esp pittie) and fur baby culture
-yelp review culture
-oh yeah and covid safetyism.
Tail wagging the fur baby. It’s a bigger issue than just this. But it’s all part and parcel of a bigger thing
A word on communitarianism. Michael sandel did not like that Rawls kept the social contract in place to justify leftist redistribution. In the 80s and 90s he was the American who joined some europeans in framing communitarianism. Communitarians believe that we owe each other duties by being part of the same social unit, whether a family or citizens in a nation. Some times individualism and individual rights need to take a back seat to community needs. He like what I think also has an anti merit streak. The great tragedy of his life is he lived long enough to see his theory consigned the dustbin of history in all but a handful of socially democratic Scandinavian countries. And his own students now attack him as a dangerous retrograde for believing in concepts such as patriotism, borders and churches. But really the thing that sunk him is the individual narcissism that is pervasive in society: the “look at me” issue about my needs coming first, a lack of empathy for the other side, and I’m prepared to ram my issue through with authoritarian force if necessary
