Actually the opposing sideline, Beach FC, thought the call was ridiculous and felt the ejection was too much. Give them the goal, free kick , maybe even a yellow as a warning if the ref thought it needed but no need to punish a player for a great save. Beach was already up by goals and more concerned about ALL girls development long term. This call only created confusion....as did the yellow card on the free kick.

Rebels 2006 gold parent here. First time at Galway downs. Beautiful fields. Giant, wide fields with the grass in great condition. A little bit of frost in the morning, dust storms on saturday, and crazy winds on sunday. The Galaxy South Bay elite team was excellent. very organized, technical, athletic and had strong finishers. Fun to play them. Strikers-mirola were very athletic and we were lucky to escape with a 1-1 tie. Have to applaud FC Golden State for keeping true and working out of the back.
I thought the Refs were great, no issues or problems with any sidelines. Just watched some hard working, talented and motivated soccer girls play. Good Luck to the teams still in it and see you next year.

Tech - Thank you for taking your time and breaking down the 06' state cup tournament !!!
Just a few random thoughts...
1) West Coast plays a very pretty game and has a player that I think is one of the best in this age group. They make some mistakes in the back against pressure that cost them goals (and ultimately wins), but I really enjoy how their coach has them play. If they are able to add some talent next year (I have heard they will), they will be a very strong team.
2) Beach Milner plays a very disciplined game with a defense that bends but rarely breaks. They don't seem to have a lot of offensive firepower, but was impressed with how organized they are on defense.
3) Blues Holley played without any subs against Anaheim. They held Anaheim to 0-0 until very late in the game, when Anaheim scored on a ball through the goalie's legs. The Blues goalie against Anaheim is actually one of their better fullbacks, apparently forced into that role as they lost their goalie. While I think Anaheim was already through with the top spot in the group before the game started, I was impressed that Blues was able to battle Anaheim so well. Saw some of Anaheim on Saturday and they are certainly strong enough to win it all.
4) Speaking of goalies, there are some amazing ones at this age. Saw a few great saves this weekend by goalies that are really starting to understand how to play the position. The LAGSD goalie made a 1v1 save that was amazing.
5) Strikers OC has lost some really good players since the start of the year, but they are still solid. I'm not sure they can make a long run, but kudos to those girls for continuing to play well after the loss of their coach and some talented players.
5) The wind was horrible on Sunday, but not sure it made a difference in any results.
6) Ultimately, I didn't see anything this weekend that changed my mind on the favorites; SD Surf, Anaheim Surf, Legends and Albion. Didn't see LAGSB play, but they took care of business and certainly still have a chance.
They get a lot of usage, so it depends. Typically they're not stellar fields, but they can be above average. Played State Sup there for group round last year and they were okay. Large fields there are impacted more with slope issues, small fields not as much.
Coach Swanson is one of the best at teaching that style of play, and walking the walk in terms of development over wins.
Holley's girls have gone through a lot, and I think if rumors are true that combining her and Rob's team next season will do that club well. Tough to field multiple flight 1 teams with the landscape changing again next season.
I think that's a very accurate call of the "Top 5" to win it all.

The CDA Slammers Salazar team always seems to have tremendous growth throughout the year and Coach Salazar always has his girls peaking this time of year. If I remember correctly this happened last year as well with his team. Very aggressive high paced but they touch the ball as well. He has some very technical girls not just athletes. Always fun to watch this team play. Good luck to all teams playing next weekend.
What happened to the players at Holley and Strikers? Injuries? Leaving for other clubs before state cup?
Most of that dirt was due to idiot parents driving around the track/parking on fields 1-8 at 45 mph. The 20 mph Santa Ana winds blowing from the east to west didn't help one bit. I did a few games on Sunday (ref) and this was the most wind I had experienced at Galway, but just about all of SoCal was like this.
Saturday they forgot to water the sand pit. 2mph or 50mph wasn't going to matter . Good thing they watered the parking lot Sunday or they probably would had to cancel the games due to zero visibility . The wind gust had to be at least 50mph - 60mph. Have a good video clip of the extremely windy conditions.
I don't think they forgot to water it, in as much as they didn't want to add water to a water logged tracked.
You are correct that heading is not the same as handling. "Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm." US Youth Soccer has made "heading" the ball for the U11 and under's is an "indirect free kick" offense and did not expand the definition of handling.
A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
- denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)
- denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the opponents’ goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
But, should the player have been carded? No.
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned unless:
• The offence is holding, pulling or pushing or
• The offending player does not attempt to play the ball or there is no possibility for the player making the challenge to play the ball or
• The offence is one which is punishable by a red card wherever it occurs on the field of play (e.g. serious foul play, violent conduct etc.)
In all the above circumstances the player is sent off.
Since the "penalty kick" is off the board, the correct call should have been: "Foul, indirect free kick from penalty box line perpendicular to where foul occurred, no caution and no red card."
The above is basically a long winded version of you are correct sir.

Continuously texting while the kids were playing a game at the TOC could be a contributing factor. Caught the attention of Blues higher ups so guessing parents noticed too.
Combining the teams seems like a smart move for Blues as they weren't able to quite get it done with the two teams when it came to higher end opposition.
Surf are rightful favorites from what I've seen.
