That's my position as well. They & Them are trying to normalize this kind of cheating and it's been going on for a very long time. Were only seeing it front and center because the light has been turned on for all to see. Just wait when we ALL find out who's been acting the part of a female in politics, hollywood and in sports. Children deserve to know that same sex couples exist, and are not something to be hidden. That two men (or two women) holding hands in public or canoodling on a park bench is not something to be shielded from, but exactly the same as two opposite sex love birds showing affection for each other in public. They deserve to see same sex representations on TV, movies and other places in popular culture in equally to opposite sex representations. They deserve to know that if they feel that way, that they will be accepted and loved. They deserve to know that out there in the world are people whose gender identities don't match what society expected of them based on their body parts when they were born. They deserve to know that if their own gender identities don't match in that way, that they still will be accepted and loved for who they are and not called names and dehumanized like some on this forum have done. They deserve to be able to express their true gender identity without being demonized by divisive republican political candidates. When you criticize "celebrating sexual preference" you are singling out same sex preference, because opposite sex romantic love has been "celebrated" by humankind since the dawn of humanity without controversy.

Masculine boys and feminine girls have been celebrated and accepted for a similarly long period of human history. So a few years of actively going out and advocating on behalf of the most marginalized category of people and telling them they are accepted and loved is not hurting anyone and is long, long, long overdue - certainly not harming kids. No one is pushing anything on children. Those folks exist and deserve to be loved and accepted. Telling kids that truth matters to everyone - all the time. I feel great sadness for the children of those who describe a world where those folks don't exist or are "sick" or are worthy of shielding children from.

Twenty years ago we were told that same marriage would "denigrate the traditional institution of marriage" by republican politicians more interested in winning elections than respecting the same sex people in their own families. Here we are with almost 20 years under our belts and "traditional marriages" are doing as fine as ever. I'm hopeful that - despite the recent election - we will look back at this period as the "dark ages" of transphobia with derision.

I also feel this past 10 years will be looked at as the dark ages - of transmania. There’s an over abundance of narcissists seeking affirmation this last decade. They have found a vulnerable target. Children don’t deserve that.

Conceptually, I don't disagree with you. However, it is the responsibility of parents to teach them these things at an age appropriate time and not our education system because activism can and does invade that system. Some of these things are confusing to adults, let alone the growing brain of a child. Were up to dozens and dozens of genders these day that I have a hard time understanding. Talking about body parts and the relation to a person's claimed identity is a sensitive topic and in some cases unexplainable, and better suited for an adult conversation.

IMO, the best way to do it is simply explain that everyone is different and we should respect others differences, but we don't need to get into the whys or details of those differences with children which can be very complicated and confusing. Let kids be kids.

It's not enough to say we're not discussing the differences of someone sitting right in front of you - when plenty of people out in the world and popular culture are disparaging and dehumanizing people of that type. If you can find a way to not talk about the differences between boys and girls in elementary school, then you might have a point. But that's never going to happen, so prohibiting mention of the fact that LGBTQ people exist and deserve love and acceptance is dehumanizing them.

They've become "marginalized" because they've become obnoxious about it. Gay couples aren't anything new, and if you really want close minded people to open up to the possibility that people with different lifestyles aren't the enemy or a threat, you don't go out of your way to shove that in their faces or shock them. I have NO sympathy for that shit. Men in women's sports, drag queens at Kindergarten story time or gay men marching 98% naked in parades with trombones hanging out of their asses. It's bad enough they're going to shove hormones into kids that may well change their minds in 6 months. My level of comprehension, at 40, was different than 30... which was different than 20... which was completely different than 10. What the fuck?! What are we doing? As Joe Rogan aptly stated, if these little boys think they're girls... why do they need hormone injections? Can't they just like like little girls?

It's not about "shielding" from children, it's about being attention whores and that's what it's become. No need for a flag, day, month or parade. Fuck that. Not what I said, but how would you explain to a six year old the difference between a "agender" and "non-binary" person, which are too common genders recognized by the LGBTQ community? Not explaining the specific differences to a child between straight and LGBTQ, is not denying that LGBTQ's exist. I don't think anyone on this thread is denying their existence. Quite frankly, kids don't care. When my son's friend had a reveal party in 6th grade that he was born a girl (they only knew him as a boy) the kids were, "OK, cool, where's the cake".

I'm a huge proponent of the KISS methodology. Everyone looks, acts and has different preferences than everyone else...period. We're all individuals...period. We don't need to promote, disparage or rationalize someone's identity to our children. If its causing you no harm, just respect that its someone's personal choice to choose their identity.
