ECNL Expansion and Contraction? MLS2?

Barca2021

SILVER
Confirmed that ECNL Norcal will add 3 clubs (https://www.ecnlboys.com/2023/03/ec...o-northern-cal-conference-for-2023-24-season/). Are there clubs leaving? Hearing rumors that there might be a departure or two. Maybe a Boys ECNL RL league coming? Anyone hearing these rumors?

Heard about MLS2 league forming in Norcal? Clubs with no U15 or U17 presence in MLS Next will play in an MLS Next 2 league. Thoughts? Anyone have a link to details?

De Anza Force is being removed from ECNL.
MLS2 is happening but is not sanctioned by MLS.

Wonder why. Looks like De Anza Force currently has both MLS Next and ECNL teams on the boys side. I can't find another NorCal club that has both active MLS Next and ECNL teams, other than Bay Area Surf / FC Bay Area who has MLS Next on the boys side, and some ECNL teams on the girls side. Every other club seems to only have one or the other.

My guess would be that the Boys De Anza Force teams are not doing well, at all, in the ECNL League.

Looks like you are correct.... (at least for the younger ages)

However when you look at the MLS Next Northwest league De Anza Force B2010 is currently ranked #2. Which means they're probabaly playing their A teams in Next and B teams in ECNL. I bet this is why they were booted from ECNL.

Yes, this is exactly what they are (were) doing; A plays MLS Next, B plays ECNL. In 2010s, that's a difference of 5 goals in strength. In 2008s, it's only a half a goal difference. In the other years, it varies a bit, but MLS always > ECNL. Every other ECNL club has their top teams in ECNL - which makes sense why ECNL would prefer that. For what it's worth, this doesn't seem to be a new development - De Anza appears to have been doing this for years - the MLS Next and ECNL teams both have game histories going back several years under their same existing names. Not sure why it became a problem just this year, either from ECNL's perspective or De Anza's perspective. Perhaps both organizations hoped that the B teams would be good enough over the long-term, and that didn't pan out for several age groups.

From De Anza Force's perspective the only reason to play in ECNL (when you're also in Next) is to provide a high level option for their girls.

If they dont have as many girls as boys they probabaly figured they could just do GA, DPL, NPL, Norcal with the girls + do Next, NPL and Norcal for the boys.

I wonder if ECNL will do the same thing to De Anza Force Girls program as they did the Strikers when the Strikers Boys program left ECNL. The Girls program was also removed. Maybe a different scenario, as I beleive the Strikers Boys left for MLS, and the ECNL then dropped the Girls. Maybe someone with better knowledge of the Strikers scenario can correct me if I'm wrong.

ECNL is trying to be everything to everyone + its diluting their brand. (I realize theres some clubs with just ECNL on either the boys or girls side)

NEXT and GA provide roughly the same product but they're not an all or nothing proposal.

As much as many people dont want to hear it boys soccer is favored over girls soccer. ECNL needs to do what Next and GA have done + completely split boys from the girls + even rename to brands to show that theyre different. ECNL boys is pulling down ECNL girls. On the other side Next is pulling up GA.

Eventually theres going to be a MLS Next for girls + right now GA is better positioned to make it available.

Strikers FC Girl players got a rude awake to this BS last year. Obey the boss, or see ya!!! Who gets the short end of the stick? Who makes the money? I agree with you by the way Carlsbad.

I'm not a wizard.

The whole ECNL vs DA/GA fight has played out before.

The differences this time include...
- DA both boys and girls this time they split the leagues appart into NEXT and GA
- DA used the olympic national team as the carrot. Next is using MLS as the carrot
- DA said no HS soccer GA allows it (kind of)
- DA said free soccer for all Next is case by case + some academy's are free. GA is just like ECNL.

ECNL hasnt changed at all + is doing the traditional youth soccer leadership technique of bullying everyone into falling in line. This didnt work before against DA + probabaly wont work this time. People like choice over beingn forced into things.

My dd and I dropped from the same Apple Tree. We don't like bullies, liars and we don't like hypocrites who lie to make a buck off females and we don't like being pushed around with more lies and forced into a corner and told, "STFU or ELSE." Good luck out there bro. I know this is now my 1001 post about "my dd" but I got many DMs from folks telling me to share more. I will try not to talk anymore because she aged out and it's not my right anymore, you know, to post on here. Whatever happen to just skip my post and go to the next:confused::rolleyes:

I thought GA/EA was managed by USYouthSoccer while Next is managed by MLS. I don't think Next and GA have anything to do with one another as far as leagues are concerned. I agree ECNL tying the Boys and Girls programs together within a club is a mistake. Just trying to understand what happened at Strikers and watching De Anza to see if something similar occurs. Strikers split thier programs into entirely different clubs after last year. MLS/NWSL Next would challenge ECNL/GA and probably put ECRL/DPL out of existence.

You are correct....GA was started by the LA Surf director in response to DA collapsing and being shut out of ECNL, smart business move......GA is not federation backed like DA was despite the logo colors nor is it NWSL backed...

I still haven’t seen anyone post the source to support the statement that DeAnza is leaving ECNL. Kinda dangerous to assert that without backing it up right before try outs start …

3 new clubs Newark Elite, SF Elite Academy and one more is joining ECNL in NorCal Division so its possible some will be dropped.. possibly DeAnza

Here you go spreading misinformation again.

MLS NEXT has NOTHING to do with GA.

GA is created by the people who created EA. EA is about to lose a bunch of teams to ECNL Boys, NAL, and MLS2. Those 3 teams joining ECNL were all EA teams.

MLS NEXT is run by MLS and is a completely separate entity from GA.
MLS Next does not care if a club has GA.
MLS Next does not support or endorse GA.

GA=EA
