G2010 - How’s the 2022 season going?

The ECNL teams in it, from the two sidelines I spoke to, said their coach said they entered them as a kind of pre-season for part two of the ECNL league season so I doubt there are many guests for the age appropriate teams but maybe somebody could get hold of rosters....I guess entering this is easier for the coaches than trying to schedule scrimmages and deal with plans falling through....logic makes sense.....anyways semi finals is 3 ECNL teams and a pre-ECNL team....says it all......

100% true. The ECNL teams that entered used it as a preseason to stay active. With the rain and schedule changes it appears to have backfired on on a few teams.
Example is Sporting. If they win in the semi final, it'll trigger them to play 5 games in 8 days. They have 3 league games next week.

Socal does State Cup

After U13 (2010 right now) most ECNL clubs place their 1st teams in ECNL, 2nd teams in ECRL, and 3rd teams in Socal.

After U13 (2010 right now) most GA clubs place their 1st teams in GA, second teams in DPL, and 3rd teams in Socal.

The only "ECNL" team that winning State Cup at U13/2010 would "says it all..." is Blues 2011 PreECNL who are playing up a year and dominating. The rest are playing against lower level competion + bottomfeeding for wins.

I dont want to take anything away from the Blues 2011 Pre ECNL team. Watched them play once + they're very good.

So kind of like a regular tournamant?

Maybe they could hold it in the middle of the summer on the Polo Fields in SD + call it Surf Cup?

;-)
Sure. To complete the effect, they could require overpriced hotel stays and rework the brackets to give Surf teams a free pass to semi-finals!

Honestly, state cup is already just a tournament for the better teams. It also includes the group stage, but that isn't really part of the attraction.

I believe State Cup is sanctioned by US Club Soccer. GA is USSSA and E64 is USYS. Clubs would have to register those players with US Club in order to be able to play. Clubs not wanting to incur the extra expense may explain the lack of teams from those leagues in State Cup.

let's be clear if there was tournament with every club team in the state the semi finals of each age group would most likely be 4 ECNL teams....they would be a different four than these four but they'd still be ECNL teams....that what "says it all" refers to, when ECNL teams enter things they go far....just look at Surf Cup top brackets the past couple years if you think I'm wrong....

LA Breakers ECNL won 3-1 over Sporting ECNL

LAFC ECNL won 2-0 over Blues G11 Pre-ECNL

LAFC ECNL vs LA Breakers ECNL in Finals

No 2011 team should be beating a 2010 team especially ecnl. Good job 2010 teams in showing who’s boss. Blues 2011 not so hot given they had NL players. Forwards definitely choked couldn’t produce a goal versus a good defensive lafc team.

How does Discovery NPL fit into this breakdown?

How does Discovery NPL fit into this breakdown?
Discovery is a promotion/relegation Division of Socal league.

NPL part is for the top Socal Discovery teams to play top teams from other NPL member leagues in showcase type tournaments.

It's the same structure that GA or ECNL use for funneling top teams into playing each other via traveling to a specific location. The big difference is the regional Discovery leagues are all seperate entities as opposed to GA or ECNL which are both a single entity.

Surprised not to hear anything on this thread after the Phoenix showcase. All chalk? No juice? Dull day at work, help me out here….

Nothing shocking, and a lot of high quality soccer. I don’t think everyone necessarily played their best lineups because these games ultimately don’t mean anything for ECNL playoffs. The top teams did as expected pretty much. I will say the Del Mar Sharks did very well, especially with a couple of players leaving the team. Could that be addition by subtraction? Surf looked strong but tied against Dallas, Eagles and MVLS looked strong but same thing, tied games that they perhaps should have won. Guess thats why we play the games. Great Venue!

You could tell some of the teams were trying out new things. New formation or an old player in a new spot.

For the most part, top ten teams were there but didn't see each other. The two times they did were great games: Slammers/MVLA and Surf/Texans.
