State Cup Presidents

So all the talk about the usual suspects, Albion, Strikers, Surf and Eagles, who are the dark horses? Teams like the Rangers or Legends seem to be forgotten about. Anyone have their Sleeper???

My sleeper pick to make a deep run would be SDSC. Just from looking at all the scores and tournaments, they have a ton of tournament experience. I think these girls are battle tested. They recently went toe to toe with Albion beating them and losing to Albion in the same tourney. Had a solid showing in Vegas too. I think they will upset a few big teams.

The team I think will disappoint would have to be Albion. I know they are one of the favorites according to people on the forum but from what I have seen(Blues cup, Surf cup) they are a SOLID team all around but not enough difference makers. Looking at their recent scores, they didn't even advance past group play at Thanksgiving Surf Cup. Don't get me wrong they are solid and will keep every game close I just don't think they have enough to push them over the top vs Blues,Eagles,Surf,Strikers.

My favorites to win besides the homer pick would come down to either Surf or Eagles. Eagles is as solid as they come. Well rounded team with some girls who kick the ball well. They have a couple difference makers on defense and some girls that can make things happen with the ball. Surf is probably the favorite but like in the past they are very beatable. They have a deep team and have consistently played well the entire year. It also helps that they probably have the best offensive player/difference maker in the age group. She can break defenses down and score from anywhere on the pitch, excellent little player.

With State cup a day away, who is your Dark horse, most likely to disappoint and your favorite? Good luck to everyone.

You guys Are All Sleeping On MGFM Soccer Devils! My dd doesn't play for them but they are the best team I've seen at this age group and they will be in the final 4 at least but should win the whole thing.

I'm interested to see this team play. It looks like they went undefeated this season, but aside from a 2 - 1 win against Eagles on Dec. 4th, it doesn't look like they had very tough competition. (http://youthsoccerrankings.us/team.html?teamId=1870534)

Anything can happen at State Cup!
To be the best you have to beat the best. I think that's how the saying goes. Playing against lesser competition week in and week out does nothing for your girls. Step up and go through a full season where you are tested week in and out. In youth soccer we all know that anybody can win "1" game. Do it consecutively playing against the best is a different story.
And don't try to tell anybody on this forum that '07 CSL basement league was the best you could find.

Who are you talking too? There are some good teams that play weak tournaments all year and have guest players!

Settle down guys. I think we all know who everyone is affiliated with, no roll call needed. SD Surf, SDSC, IE Surf Kooiman, & Strikers OC are all good teams, no need to get defensive. Presidents has the best 20 teams in SoCal all travelling to Lancaster to see who is the best. Except Strikers somehow is going to Norco. No guest players, no questioning which tournament or which league you played in, just great soccer from a bunch of 9 year old girls, some of who are so good it just makes you shake your head in amazement. Best of luck to everyone!! Can't wait!

Eagles 3
Farm 1

Excellent game both sides. Fram has some great speed up top and skilled players throughout. Well coached in what they want to do, with their goal coming off a beautiful cross and finish.

Both keepers had solid games as well. Eagles gk battled hard on a chaotic corner kick and Fram keeper made a simply outstanding lateral save off a well hit Eagles free kick.

Fun game to watch.

So based on results yesterday the only shocker is Strikers could be eliminated today based on results of Albion v Arsenal.

Legends 2
Eagles 1

Quite a match between two hard-working teams. Eagles went up 1-0 on an indirect kick in the first half and were able to hold off the relentless Legends attack until late in the 2nd half a cross made its way thru to a Legends player with a well-timed finish. Eagles had their chances throughout as well but were unable to send one in past the dynamic Legends GK.

Winning goal for Legends came w ten seconds to play on a cross into a player that appeared to be offsides to some, but not to all, and not to the Ref, and she made a nice finish, putting the game away.

Regardless of any offsides or not, it was a great game by both sides - some excellent play to watch by these youngsters. Legends is a very strong side and earned the win -- good luck to them going forward.

Why are GU10 scores not out! Strikers is in as 2nd, Albion 4-1 Arsenal.

Most scores today for state cup for all age groups are not out .

Seems to be getting kinda late . Seems it shouldn't be that hard . Most regular tournaments
report scores much faster.

If Strikers play like they did this weekend against Eagles in the next round they will be blown out. Strikers new coach needs to figure it out quick or they'll all be packing
