Yes, US supported regime change has been a painful failure since WW II. However, weakening the leadership as thoroughly as has been accomplished in Iran always presents possibilities of change. Many more empires have fallen than currently remain.

Leadership has changed, but not weakened. Iranian leadership is as strong as ever when it gets thousands of its citizens to form a human chain around bridges and power plants . Until radical islam and sharia law are eliminated there will be no change in Iran.
