Its not the pillar of any argument, just a gruesome fact. Hamas is certainly a heinously evil org. The ceasefire (previous) argument is specious, there has been a blockade of Gaza since 2006, with regular attacks by Hamas and counter strikes from the IDF.
Israel is doing exactly what Hamas wanted. Israel can certainly defeat them militarily but that doesn't win the "war". Those are the battles. The "war" is one of ideas, and from what I can see Israel and no idea what happens next. Or maybe its because the extreme right in govt in Israel really want to remove all Palestinians from both Gaza and the West Bank.Another perspective from someone who actually studies civilian casualties.

You appear to believe Hamas should be held accountable. How do you propose Israel do that?
I leave aside the fact that ISIS never existed before we went into Iraq, or that we should never have gone into Iraq (hundreds of thousands died there), but there is a similarity in asking civilians to exit prior to bombing a city. In Mosul, exit the city and be safe. In Gaza, exist area 1 to be safe, then exit area 2 to be safe, repeat for months ... but never get to exit Gaza, that's not an option. Also, any/all areas may still be targets if Hamas is spotted etc.No excuse? The US and its allies killed about 9,000 civilians when we liberated Mosul from ISIS. Just one battle.

For that matter, in Fallujah, we launched an airstrike directly on the hospital. This was legal under the laws of war. The hospital in question was being used as a command post. Compared to us, IDF are a model of restraint. Faced with a similar situation, they went in on the ground.
When an army hides behind civilians, civilians die. That's why it's a war crime.
The "war" and this "battle" were started by radical islamists and you're correct if you eliminate Hamas there will be some other radical islamist group to replace them if the Hamas citizens allow that to happen, which is highly likely judging based upon the constant and pervasive anti-semitic protests across our country. However, that doesn't mean you don't try to eliminate Hamas for their horrific and unprecedented actions. That's like saying there will always be crime so why bother punishing anyone for it. An end to this battle is simple. Return the hostages. Despite your claim from a week ago, Hamas has no interest in a ceasefire because they gain more sympathy from the ignorant if they continue to have their civilians die.
