Iiuc ea (and most lower leagues including ayso) will be done on a sy but still by age, not by grade level. So it’s not really possible to redshirt them (you can only play up)…you still need to produce birth certificates. So Oct-Dec players will grow up with a shot at the most elite programs as Youngers, will be the strongest going to ea (which are the early puberty years where size makes the most difference) and be noticed by coaches as potentials to be pulled down when mls opens up (these players will be marked as Oct-Dec possible biobands when recruiting comes along) so they’ll just get pulled down 1 to play by.

You can bio band an October kid and those kids will have been playing at ea and other top teams so a club will have earmarked the 3 kids they want biobanded. Other than that it’s who’s tall (January-July having the edge) and who has skills (which will over time reduce that to January-March for most who aren’t early bloomers since the may-julys will struggle to get on top teams).
You are most likely correct. I have no reason to argue with your logic. One thing I will point out is that ealier you said that coaches are looking for short term wins and therefore wouldn't be monitoring SY teams for BY oldest players.
I think that its going to be more nuanced. Clubs/Coaches with SY league teams will keep Jan-July players engaged knowing that a few will end up on MLSN HG teams. How long and how deep this will occur remains to be seen. Also it will probably vary if a youth club has a HG team or a relationship with a HG team/club.
In the end I do believe having both BY and SY leagues at the same tine will translate into more potential talent available to play at the highest levels at least at the younger ages. I dont think theres much incentive to keep Jan birthdays around in a SY league when players get older. But being the oldest doesnt matter as much the older the players get. So maybe its a wash. Either way MLS has biobanding so it doesnt matter.
One interesting aspect of MLSN HG staying BY is I guarantee NWSL + USL are watching very closely how having BY and SY youth leagues at the same time plays out.

I find all this hand wringing and pearl clutching about the so-called "disadvantage" of when you're kid as born quite humorous. Here is a dose of reality for everyone. I think we would all agree that San Diego has a very strong pool of soccer talent, yet out of the 2026 class only 4 boys have signed D1 soccer offers. One kid is from SD but plays on a team from the other coast and one primarily played EA. I know that one of those kids has no scholarship and I suspect its the same for two others. They're probably are a few that may still sign and maybe some that are trying to pursue a professional route. The best player from SD who hasn't played on a SD club in years and was a Generation Cup MVP gets limited play time for an MLS Next Pro team, although still gets play time on the Mexico Youth National Teams.

when they tell you a small % of boys make it to D1 that's is a real statistic.
Even less will go pro. Maybe 1 kid out of a 500 (USL2, USL, IITeam)

And well if you have a high school (private school ) coach telling you he'll get you into D1 school , shame on you for listening to him.
I know multiple kids at different ELITE schools and no one in that class has signed yet.
It's not the disadvantage of birth year , its the serial lies by these clubs and coaches in America, their only goal is to fund their club, they know very early who they will push forward.
Just pay attention to social media PATS used to post the most commits, they barely do know , same with the other team in that area, forget about so cal reds....
I think Pats is smart to stop social media posting of acceptances to Chico State. It does them more harm than good.

yes most of these OC clubs are solely based on relationships so these local D1 schools are the easiest path ....
The commit posts were very discouraging to read. Maybe that’s why they stopped. Bad business.
