Rant: League fracturing is asinine

Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope your son has a coach who is positive and he's getting touches and development. At the end of the day that's what really matters. The choices for a team that wants to stay local and build are really complicated in this landscape.
This is the silver lining (although perhaps we might say somewhat tarnished silver): his coach is reasonable, and appreciates him, and while not entirely positive, I think will push him to get better over the season. He is currently still getting development, although if they don't find alternatives ways to play competitive games, that might be an issue over the course of the season. I think we'll also certainly explore other options next year, unless something changes dramatically between now and then; the best coach in the world can't compensate for not getting competitive game experience, and I cannot image most of the kids (and parents) not being frustrated after this season, given the "best case scenario" for the club next year is only EA (which has the exact same problems). I image the club teams will see significant attrition next year.

Maybe we'll go back to AYSO Extra, and focus on other things; also an option. I like my son's current coach, but not enough to pay $6k+ for another year of essentially just regular practice sessions, and that's all a club with only access to EA/EA2 seems to be capable of providing, given the quality of clubs and teams in those leagues. That's my current perspective, anyway.

By AYSO I really mean AP classes. ;)
If he isn’t good enough for first tier leagues, he should just focus on school.
If he’s aiming for top programs school isn’t enough anymore. You have to excel in whatever it is you want to do. The competition for creative writers to get into Iowa young writers or future doctors to get hospital candystripper positions is insane.

Not playing high school? If not his attention is on the verge of being ripped elsewhere. Does extras even go u16?

My son is playing club currently, and will play HS again in their season (U16 is 10th grade generally), but I have no delusions about him getting a college scholarship for soccer or anything. The top end for him, barring some massive unexpected surge in personal practice or something, is possible preference for admissions to a strong academic D3 school somewhere. That's my semi-realistic top-end benefit from all his club soccer training (in addition to his enjoyment of the game, etc.).

I think its a great thing to be a part of a team. And its great to be a part of your high school team. Part of the crazy here is parents somehow thinking there is a pro path.

Soccer club world rule of 3 best players move up and on, and the 3 lowest players get cut... Its a bit harsh but it also always happens.

Pro path - they will build a team around 1 player! So he can play and get them touches!

Unfortunately with pay to play coaches often play favorites and get involved with team politics. Also with girls "best" and "worst" is highly subjective.
