How to Make the Jump from RL to NL

If your daughter doesn’t make the ECNL team by u14, and is stuck on the RL team at one of the big clubs like Surf, Kobe, Legends, Slammers….take the hint, hint….and you want to get recruited to small D1 or D2/3, go to a mid-tier ECNL club or top level GA. The big clubs ECRL teams do have talent, and they are lead along and train with the ECNL, to keep, that revenue in the club. But the big ecnl clubs will attract top players (like USYNT movements) and those will be the types joining the big ECNL clubs at 15-16 years old.
I am so glad my kids don't want to play in college. Less stress.

Take a look at the colleges that popular clubs are sending their girls.. it's not impressive. Most of these girls could go to a much 'better' school just by applying and then walk on to the team.
Parents could also drop a 50k donation on the school to get their kid in front of the admissions line.

The general idea is that soccer will open doors at college and ideally knock some of the cost off tuition. If you're walking on you're probably not going to get a scholarship.

The cheapest way to get into the best colleges is to have really good grades and test scores. This makes coaches lives easy because they dont have to worry about admissions or eligibility when players play for them.

First two paragraphs absolutely true. Third paragraph, last part, not so much.

Most, but not all, coaches care very little about grades. They care that an athlete can produce wins for at least a fall semester. Take a look at the men’s college game and all the foreign players from Burkina Faso, Zaire, all over Africa and Europe (mostly England, Norway and Iceland). Marshall won the men’s NCAA championship a few years back without a single US born player. And that is happening more and more in the women’s college game too. Arizona St is a prime example. Are you telling me that the coaches of these athletes did a deep dive into their grades before the transfer? All the coaches cared about is if they have NCAA eligibility for at least the fall. Graduate students are similar, but at least they have graduated from a 4 year college. Power 4 coaches love graduate student transfers but they love international, season academy players even more.

You have so much more talent outside the US for men's compared to women's. It's getting slightly more popular to see women international recruits but will prob never get nowhere near the men's scene. Agreed that coaches generally don't care about grades...as long as they meet their school's minimum requirements.

While I understand the sentiment theres never a situation where good grades and test scores are a bad thing. Even if coaches are only looking for bodies.

I have a funny/interesting story about this type of thing. I went to HS with a guy that was 6'8" and 260-270lbs. I played football with him and we had several classes together. He was a straight A++ student but the biggest marshmallow on the field. He was really nice but just didnt hit hard. We ended up going to the same University He got a full ride scholoship and was redshirted 2x. It turned out that the coach knew he was terrible but they needed someone that looked good on paper + pulled the teams grades up. He actually used to tutor the linemen. He eneded up getting free undergrad and masters degrees. He just had to suit up for games on the weekend. I dont think he even practiced with the team that often.

Don't wait move now. Start the conversation now, move as soon as HS season is finished. If you wait until May it is too late.
How do you make a move before the tryout window if clubs are adhering to the policy that they are not allowed to have girls out from other NL/RL clubs?

I know you weren't asking me but there is always player movement during winter break.
sounds good, just asking in general...because if you reach out to coaches outside your club now they seem to give you the generic answer that "tryout window opens in April for players within ecnl already..." Unless there's a way around this....because, yes, it seems like there's a ton of movement during the season BEFORE they window opens!

If your kid has an upcoming game against the team she wants to join, let the opposing coach know before the game so he can keep an eye out for your kid. Easiest way for the new coach to tell if your kid is better than what he already has.

Send your player's game schedule to the coaches you are interested in joining. If they are playing with their school during the winter, the coaches can take a look. The coaches can't reach out and recruit anyone, but the parent can reach and and send as much info as they want. You can always switch to a GA/MLS Next team at anytime during the season; then you are free to practice with ECNL teams. If I was in your position I would be working during the winter to lock in a GA/MLS Next team to join as soon as the spring season starts. Then immediatly start talking/practicing with ECNL teams, if that is a better scenario for you than the hypothetical GA/MLS Next team
