How’s the 2024-2025 season going?

It'll sort itself out one way or another in a month or two. The top 3 teams are close enough that the smallest swings may continue to shift the order. Newer results are always weighted significantly more than older results as they age - so while it's always going to be a lagging indicator - it's not nearly so as people may assume.
Its definitely going to be moving all around every week down the stretch!! Good luck to all

any surprises from the battle of southwest? Seemed to be about the same. Maybe Eagles taking a back seat this year even with their new pickups? Looks like Lemon was on the right track taking them out of the top 8. 4-8 is probably going to move around every week until we are done.

TOP 8

1. HBK
2. Legends
3. Surf
4. Blues
5. Beach
6. Pats
7. Slammers FC
8. LAFC
Not sure about Surf going 3rd but looks pretty good.

The Eagles have new pickups? This list seems spot on though. A few teams looking stronger after the break.

They had one pickup as posted on their IG. Blues, Pats, Breakers picked up new players. We'll see if Pats can hold strong to finish the year with good additions. Coach did the same last year and went from good to bad quick.
Pats are definitely not the same team that ended the season last year (only a handful of players left over from last season). My thoughts on the teams after the winter additions after the battle at southwest from the teams that I know added pieces:

Eagles - overall negative as the loss of JB is too much for the new addition to overcome this year
Blues - some positives but overall probably neutral from before the winter. Their victories are coming from the willing of the coach
Pats - overall positive from what I've seen at Southwest but remains to be seen if the coach can execute
Breakers - overall positive and could make a run to get into the playoffs this season

Have any other teams made changes? LAFC, Legends SD? I don't see how Phoenix or Heat could improve over the break unless they had a GA or RL girl that blossomed in high school. Heat only lost to Beach 1-0 and breakers beat Heat 1-0.

Blues 1 Breakers 3 - Breakers have definitely improved over the break

Pats 1 Beach 5 - Either Pats pickups has not gelled yet, or Beach just proving they are one of the top teams in SW. They still have Surf and Legends coming up...
You can’t convince me that a 1-5 loss to Beach has anything to do with players gelling. That is a shalacking for a team trying to make a deep playoff run after making all these moves to bring players in.

Interesting scores this weekend. Blues, Pats, Legends. In regards to Pats it was definitely a score with a statement by Beach saying they belong as a top team in SW. Breakers has definitely now proven they have improved over the break as well and will probably move up into a playoff spot. Blues increased the strength of their defense over the break and they still did that to them.

1.)KOGE
2.)SURF
3.)LEGENDS
4.)BEACH
5.)PATS
6.)LAFC
7.)BLUES
8.)HEAT
9.)SLAMMERS
10.)REBELS

Who deserves more credit for the top 5 teams currently? The coaches for development or mom/dad for driving hours in gridlock traffic?

Slammers RL deserves recognition taking care of business at the Phoenix Showcase. Head scratcher is legends NL tying Phoenix rising when the weekend before slammers RL handled them 2-0.

Pats on paper might be top 5, but performance wise I put them at 9 on your list. In a comeback game from a 1-5 loss to beach, Sporting gave them all they could handle this weekend on a depleted roster and their performance in Az indicates they need some figuring out before they can make a real run on the rankings.

Slammers FC NL moves up a few spots IMO after WC and the higher ups have been putting their focus on the team and performing well in Az and in league since the refocus on the 2010s.

LA Breakers should be on the list. I’d rank them over SoCal blues in a power ranking. This would knock rebels out of the top 10 who are to play Surf, Blues and Legends to close out their season.

I agree with your list otherwise.

How did Slammers RL get into an NL showcase?

The playoff picture for 2010's is definitely going to go down to the wire and be decided on 5/10. Been some wild scores so far this second half. These high school breaks have really changed these teams around.

How did Slammers RL get into an NL showcase?
Top 1/3 of Southwest RL teams would likely be just as competive as the NL teams if they were added to the NL league. Fact is, there is more Tier 1 talent in SoCal than there are ECNL teams, a lot more. ECNL could expand SoCal by 4 clubs, and not skip a beat. This is how you know that other factors are at play beside player performance.

Its cool ECNL is doing this now but before there was no way an RL team would get an NL showcase. There were some pretty dominate RL teams out there in the years passed from Southwest.

They’ve been doing this for years for RL. Rule was if you were a finalist for national playoff in Virginia you’d be able to go to NL showcases. Now they’ve expanded it a little for top performing teams and it’s been mostly teams from California.

MVLA RL 2010s did it in Spring ‘23. Slammers this year. It’s been a thing across all age groups.

All 3 Slammers 08 RL, 2007 Legends RL and 2009 Legends RL went to Phoenix Fall ‘24

2006 slammers RL Phoenix Fall ‘23 just to name a few.

When we were first transitioning to 11v11 and choosing between ecnl and rl, one of the selling points the coach gave our team at the time was exactly this, you could play in NL showcases if you performed well. This got a lot of that team to stay together when we formed where girls were good keeping the group together because they could help guest with the NLs and play with the team they’ve been with for 3-4 years in 7v7 and 9v9 where their playtime was pretty much secured.

Unfortunately, some people are more interested in chasing the patch instead of staying together and being cohesive, understandably.

3.)LEGENDS
4.)BEACH
5.)LAFC
6.)SLAMMERS
7.)BREAKERS
8.)BLUES
9.)PATS
