How’s the 2023-24 season going?

Vegas Cup brackets are out. Thought they’d do a better job putting the top flight together. Last year it was a who’s who of teams out there. This year there’s some questionable teams playing top flight. Not sure they seeded this well either, especially when you have teams like sporting ecnl playing in the flight 2 09 in the same tournament.

Looking at the 09 bracket it seems this will probably be the last time most these girls will play this tournament especially since high school season won’t allow for it as they start that next year.

National Rank / SR Score / Team Name
Bracket A
18 47.04 Legends ECNL
292 43.38 SoCal Blues NPL Fly
373 43.01 Albion SC LV GA
814 41.16 Rebels IE Bautista

Bracket B
82 45.44 Phoenix Rising ECNL
165 44.34 Slammers Koge RL
200 44.01 BVB GA
313 43.27 LV Surf E64

Bracket C
40 46.41 Beach RL
52 46.02 Slammers RL
57 45.90 HEAT ECNL
92 45.28 Pats ECNL

Bracket D
72 45.62 Az Arsenal ECNL
73 45.62 Liverpool DPL
369 43.03 Sporting RL
1357 39.67 Albion DPL

Does anyone know how who and when DPL
Teams get ascended to GA?
Both GA and ECNL announce new clubs between Jan and March.

There's a rumor that since DPL controls the GA board that this year there will be several new GA additions. We'll find out soon if it's true or not.

This is the U14G Gold bracket for 2010 teams, not the 2009 bracket, right?

For what its worth, using just the national rank #'s posted above, the average national rank for the Gold (top) bracket is 273rd; this feels much closer to an RL/DPL tournament this year.

Correct. Just seems they could have pulled stronger teams from other brackets to make a more competitive Gold bracket. It would make way more sense to swap out Albion DPL and Rebels IE with these two teams

Sporting ECNL 61st SR 45.77 (playing 09 Silver Elite)
Sting Black RL 219th SR 43.88 (playing 10 Silver Elite)

And then distribute bracket C more evenly within the other brackets. Why have 3 top 60 teams in the same bracket, the 4th being top 100 and that added new pieces from legends ecnl in the same bracket where as you stated the average rating is 273. It looks like they didn’t give much thought about putting this group together.

There are several deserving DPL clubs who should be moved up.

I agree, Liverpools younger DPL teams are doing very well and should be promoted.

I'd also like to see SD Force promoted up to GA and SDSC (girls) relegated to DPL. The only problem with doing this is SDSC would likely switch over to ECRL.

NPL is supposedly becoming ECRL 2 this fall so I’m sure that’s going to be interesting to see how that develops and evolves

Participating in a 3rd tier ECNL league (which I assume ECRL2 is) would be a hard sell to NPL clubs unless there was clearly defined pro/rel advancement options.

DPL + GA would just pick off the better ECRL2 (former NPL) clubs.

If I'm reading correctly, this change already happened in norcal last season, and there wasn't an exodus. It's just a name change for the bracket. NPL Champions league was renamed ECNL-RL. The issue, at least initially, is that there are a sizable number of teams that just call their second ECNL team ECNL-RL, and they aren't good enough to play at the top NPL level so they are named RL but aren't playing in the ECNL-RL bracket. This will lessen over time hopefully as coaches (and players, and parents), realize that the "RL" team they are on isn't actually an RL team.

There is pro/rel within the NPL ranks to get a team all the way into ECNL-RL, and to bounce them out of it if they underperform - this is all at the team level and not at the club level. There has been no explicit pro/rel from ECNL-RL to ECNL-NL or vice/versa.

It kind of makes sense if you think about it. NPL doesn’t really have any showcases, but participating in ECRL can at least provide a pathway for showcases for older teams outside of USYS National Playoffs.

For clubs with ECNL and NPL it makes it even easier to move players within each team now as it’s under one organization now.

Players can move up easier when they’re showing they can play at a higher level and vice versa players can move down to get more play time should they be a bubble player.

In the 2010 bracket, there are some NPL teams that are stronger than some of the RL teams that are currently present. I’m thinking of teams like Tudela, TFA OC, and Fury, And clubs with ECNL like SoCal blues, Slammers, LAFC and I’m sure Surf can all benefit from this change in regarding to moving players around as needed (again this is in theory given were moving players with good intentions).

It looks like the first step in a promotion / relegation system to be implemented at the gate way for the highest level.

For what it's worth. I've heard of DPL inviting clubs/teams that they're trying to recruit to events.

Same end result just not as structured.

Seems like it’s a good confidence builder for the players and a gauge for coaches to get an early start as to who will eventually get recruited to play D1 and beyond. If 30 girls made the SoCal PDP team. Those girls are probably the top G10 players in the country.
False. SoCal PDP is probably the biggest scam and money grab since….well ODP in So cal.
Don‘t waste your time and money.

SDSC can't just switch to ECRL. The mothership has the area on lockdown and likely gets a second program before any new club is added.

As for Force, they may deserve it, but they may be victims to similar politics in the GA/DPL ecosystem.

A 2nd Surf team at each age group makes a lot of sense.

What leads you to think that?

I’m assuming that you mean a second ECRL team. But please correct me if my assumption is wrong.
There's enough talent in SD and South LA for Surf to field 2 ECNL teams. Most top players would switch clubs if a 2nd Surf team was viable. Even without local players Surf could recruit from outside SD and parents would move.

The one issue with 2 teams at Surf is unless they played in different regional leagues both couldn't be #1.
