Get ready folks

Couldn't you say the same thing about sucky ECNL teams? Actually couldn't you cherry pick a couple of teams from one league and beat the worst teams from almost any other league.
You're right, every league has a few top teams, but the majority tend to struggle. I was just responding to the comment that MLS Next teams are the "crème de la crème," which isn't really accurate. In some age groups, around 11 teams didn’t even win 10 games out of 30+ this season. Until clubs like Legends, Pats, Sporting CA, and Beach are included in MLS Next, it’s hard to consider it the top league.

i didnt know guest playing was allowed on any mls team unless you are cut? mls is set up a lot like d1 athletics. you have a Power 4, but even within that, there are large disparities. You will have your powerhouses just like the academies, aka the bluebloods of soccer: Kentucky, Clemson, Stanford, UCLA, etc. and you will have the next tier of mls, that are your outliers, that will consistently make flex and the play offs and even like a Vermont, may win a championship, but it's not always the norm. All mls is not good mls, just like all ecnl isnt good ecnl.

Not necessarily. There are ECNL teams that have already beaten MLS Next teams multiple times. For certain age groups, there are really only about 3-4 strong teams in MLS Next. The majority of the others feel like filler, essentially glorified Flight 1 teams that were accepted into the league.
Sarcasm (in my post) aside, they have to play up assuming they have Aug-Dec aged kids. I've seen ECNL teams beaten by state league teams. The league acronym does not a good team make.

They don’t go to high school—home schooled.
Sure, but my point is, the College pathway into the Pro's is not required. In fact, we will probably see less and less of NWSL pick up coming from College, but being picked straight out of the Club teams. We don't need yet another league for the NWSL, ECNL and GA are already creating players that can mix it up on the field with the Pro's. I also think we will see a big shift in the Women's game here in the U.S.. There was a clear difference in the way 2006 and older girls teams played (Over the top, and mostly kickballish) to how the 2007 and younger girls play (possession and strategic direct). As the 07's and youngers start to filter into the Pros, and College teams, I think we are going to see a shift to better soccer.

Ugggg. So ecnl is moving to 9/1 so how will it work with npl? Also isn’t this then ayso just saying it cares more about the core rec programs than united moving up and securing letter league status? Is it the white flag because older ayso united programs are getting wrecked by not having letter league??? My kids former championship team just disintegrated along the way and no longer exists and it used to be a top 25 team in SoCal. And I still don’t think the mls pyramid is going to switch because of Europe and the academies but if they do it was always going to be 9/1 to align with England. Ugggggg.
ECNL and NPL fall under US Club Soccer. 8/1 will be the date.

At this point, can we expect MLS Next/II/EA to eventually switch to grade-year as well?

If they stay at birth year, how would MLS Next teams be able to compete in non-MLS Next tournaments if their rosters don’t meet the 9/1–8/31 age eligibility requirements? I understand MLS Academy teams can shift players more easily since they carry large rosters, but other teams would likely struggle to bring in enough players to comply with those age cutoffs.
They will switch. It will cause too many unnecessary problems with admin and management.

For the past 2 seasons, our MLSN team did not participate in any summer tournament because we have biobanding player in the team.

How many bio-banded players do they have? I know EA Teams that are bio banding this year and simply shifting the players to an older team for tournaments. But this is also just a couple of players on each team.

Wouldn't the team just leave out the bio-banded player for the weekend tournament? If my son were bio-banded, I’d completely understand and just find him another team to guest-play with that weekend.

You’d be surprised, for example, there were Galaxy players guest-playing for other F1 teams in tournaments during the winter break in December last year. Saw many other MLSN players doing the same, it really depends on whether the coach approves it or just isn’t aware.

Yeah, I think actual MLS Academies like Galaxy and LAFC couldn’t care less, since they usually only participate in two non-MLS Next tournaments a year, Surf Cup and Copa América Cup in San Diego. I’m really referring to the other teams in MLS Next, like LASC, Strikers, TFA, and multiple Albion teams that actively play in tournaments during the off-season and in-season break.
They only do a handful of tournaments like surf. The more difficult problem will be for the mls2 teams since they don’t have year round play and for ea it’s going to be a real dilemma.
