Get ready folks

US Soccer -> US Club Soccer -> ECNL
US Soccer -> USSSA -> GA

* Technically I believe GA can sanction itself. But I don't think they do + still use USSSA for sanctioning.
Thank you for this. So, since this is coming from US Soccer (presumably for all of its constituents), this means no organization will be switching to SY for 25/26?

Was all this talk of ECNL teams allowing roster changes to be made in the 2nd half of the current season simply untrue?

All it means (if true) is that US Soccer won't be changing from BY to SY in the near future.

There's all kinds of things ECNL can do to make their league SY equivalent even if forced to be BY.

We'll see how ECNL reacts. If they do nothing there's a lot of wasted political capital and they'll look weak.

I mean what do you expect from US Soccer Leadership. There is a reason US excels at almost all other sports. It takes incompetence to be as bad as we are at soccer.

Someone should email michele kang and suggest she claw back her 30mm before it goes to waste 😂

Well I guess you can save this and your 5-6 other aliases to push for SY again next year. Bye bye...

ECNL should allow top Q3/Q4 players an option to play down in their own grade to increase college recruiting exposure.

It’s coming for 26/27. The big reason for no 25/26 is a result of Dec tryouts. Worst of all worlds IMO and for me personally. This only impacts me on how I approach my kid playing up this year which is why i wanted a decision one way or other (stay BY for long run or move for 25/26) and not a 1 year delay on the change.

ECNL can do this right now.

ECNL is choosing to try and force everyone to do what they want (SY) before simply implementing it themselves.

Keep this in mind next time you think XYZ has wronged your kid for not being able to play with kids in their grade in school.

I assume you have a child who may have been adversely affected by the date change. Either that, or you haven't read all of the reasons FOR. It seems pretty clear logic to me, not really that big of a deal, as it is exactly the same but a different date. Obviously people who's children will be affected (for better or worse) would feel very invested in this discussion, especially those trying to navigate a very near tryout date.

Let's try not to create division over this. Surely we can navigate this situation better than the leadership who has been dragging affected players along for this dramatic ride since June.

See you next year ✌️

It seems as if the Michigan email and post is somewhat suspect with the date typo. What is the source of the ECNL screenshot above? The longer time passes with no other states sending notifications like Michigan makes it seem suspect.

This is what a complete lack of leadership looks like. A free for all for Fall 26 will be entertaining though…
Majority will do school year in 2026. If they want true grade year or close to it, 9/1 cut off makes more sense US club runs just about every tournament and they are in line with ECNL. The text of those 2 pages from US soccer BOD meeting is ridiculous though. Make a decision based on feedback and move on with it. At least all our poor babies hearts won't be broken...yet!

Are you speculating 9/1 or hearing that from US Club?

The Path Forward Plan reads like its written by a 10 year old...you'd think US Soccer would have a few people on board that could've gotten out ahead of this and put a coherent plan together...not "we can't do it now, we'll let you guys figure out whether or not to do it in 26/27, and who knows about 27/28!!"

Total clown show. Did they not know they were going to be voting on this for 2 months or more?!

I agree how they were not ready for this to roll out is beyond me. Get some people to work and get it done instead of taken 3 or 4 more months to come up with a draft plan to move forward. Clubs need to step up and adjust for 1-6 player movement per team like they do every year.
The whole thing of waiting a year is crazy. It does give clubs over a whole year to recruit players though I guess.

So for the SoCal people who said their coaches or directors told them it wasn’t happening in 25 I guess you guys are right! The way the pathway forward reads though certainly does feel like by 2026 there is a good chance change will be made.

reading the memo, some realities come through: rec soccer and low level programs suffer with birth year system. For programs that aspire to be on the 'world stage' like MLSN and ECNL, it doesn't really matter since 6 months age difference doesn't affect high level players. International programs are birth year, players struggling in these programs are asking for school year, so there are pros and cons. My take, if your player is struggling and you think school year is the solution, it may work in the short term, but the writing is on the wall in the long term.

Not to rain on the 2026/27 festivities.

But, a million things can change in youth soccer in a year and a half. I still put the chances of BY changing to SY at a 50/50 chance of happening even with a more clearly defined timeline.

At least we'll know more about if NCAA has blown up by that time. Which would make the change from BY to SY useless. This would be because of college purging non revenue sports. Which would essentially make USM/WNT and college players the same pool because of limited roster spots.
