G2010 - How’s the 2022 season going?

When you are at a moderate level club that doesn't attract the cream of the crop players there is no other alternative then develop what you have and but hope it stays.
Based on the work in progress its about 2 to 3 years some players a bit sooner. Unfortunately it's a survival of the fittest in the soccer world in this case it's the big clubs Blues, legends, slammers, eagles, surf, etc. From what I hear you have to spend money to make money through scholership players. Win in the big arena and everyone will follow right? Rare are the teams with true player and parent chemistry. But it can happen. I enjoy being a part of two age groups 08 girls and 2010 girls. But since 2008s group is silent I'm here putting my two cents in. We're just the little fish in the big pond but I think there is hope we grow with our team. At least I believe come somewhere close with our home grown team. Just trying to inform myself of what uppershelf soccer at 2010 is like.
What are your thoughts of a player playing 2 years up? I'm sure you all have all the elite players on radar. God I hope I didn't blow my cover lol.
It doesn't matter what I think. My dd always does what she wants. I was told by a big time coach to get her to play on a boys team at U12 and it would make her better. I agreed so I approached my little girl about joining an all boys team and she about ripped my head off with that idea. Seriously, she thought I was crazy. She said no way old man, not gonna happen. She loves playing with girls and then taking on an all boys team and trying to beat them. I also was sold on having her play up two years, no joke. I was told it would make her better. I again approached her with the cleaver idea to improve her game and again she thought I was crazy. This was 8th grade. She liked her age group. High School Soccer was the only time she liked the idea of playing with older girls. Playing Varsity as Fr was all she got playing soccer because she was kicked out of the Girls Development Academy because she wouldn't give up her rights of playing soccer at a public school.

P.S. Tad Bobak at Blues coached 40 years and only had 7 teams. He took them at U11 all the way through U18 and then would get a new team and repeat the cycle. One team of parents and chemistry. He shared how his players would all go to each others weddings, celebrate kids births and so much more. A true family. It's why when he recruited my dd she joined. No scholarships either. He did make cuts every year and would always be looking for the best players so you best be working hard. He also gave everyone play time in the season and when playoff time came, then you see where you stand. Tad was not a big believer in the development game. He was honest and never lied to me, ever. Never sold YNT or ODP. He taught the girls to be great humans first and then have the girls develop each other, like Iron sharpens Iron. He was amazing and if the GDA never came and disrupted youth soccer like they did, I'm sure we would have finished with Tad and be on his last team. Even after we left Blues for greener pasture, he always gave my dd a hug when he saw her and was always nice to me. Other Docs would sneer at me when they saw me because we left, not Tad. I do think coaches can develop players, FYI.

For those making the fake accounts and sending me DM's, just stop. Your money and bribes can buy anything you want but not me. If you want to talk feel free to make the drive to SB. Ill even buy you dinner and drinks. You can pretend to be coach and ill be you for the evening.

My skin in the game is I have a DD who's in DPL right now and the only ECNL program closest to me has be in constant chaos since moving to this state. I've played the game and went golfing at one of their fundraisers to talk soccer and club, but these top GM dads wouldn't take a breath away from telling me how College and WNT scouts come from all over the nation to watch their kids play. This was so false. My recruiting connections from one of the D1 schools THEY mentioned just laughed as we got the women's soccer coach on the phone. All I want is an opertunity for my DD to play at her age level on a top team and not need to worry about whos paying the coach on the side for minutes, positions and a constant ear about how to play on game day. What happened to integrity coach? You know how many parents over the years came into my office with booster checks to get their sons on the field Friday night when I was coaching. ZERO. That's right. ZERO. You set the standard from day 1 on what will be tolerated. The only way to play was through hard work, determination and execution. The parents involved trying to destroy clubs should take a long hard look in the mirror and realize the damage they are creating for the next generation. Unacceptable parents. DO BETTER!

You are all to blame. Recruit your own players and play the best where you know they belong. Stop listening to parents and most importantly DO BETTER!!!!! ALL the kids who get left behind and/or cut from Slammers WILL get their revenge on National Signing Day in High School when three quarters of that new roster quits soccer from burn out.

This will be my last post. @Luis Andres Thanks for showing me how things worked throughout the years on here.

I understand your frustration but I don’t understand the “do better” comments. Eagles, Slammers, and Blues are top 2010 teams in SoCal outside of Surf.

Scoreboard says that the coaches you’ve listed are successful + the way they’re running things works.

I do agree that players will burn out or get injured + the crazy parents will end up turning on each other over time.

Those names look so familiar
Our club has lost many players to them great recruiting skills the big name brand and even financial assistance or complete free rides. I think there is more satisfaction for a coach to develop and grow with that player then to recruit and exploit others times and efforts. But the carrot hangs far for many with the dream of playing for the clubs top team and coach. I have lost respect for many who have honestly lost their morals in the recruiting etiquette. Some leave it to the parents to do it and wash their hands with it. But it's part of the game and many times the pasture is not greener on the other side. One of our player has many offers can play anywhere has offers on the table. She continues with the process, patience when the process is proven. She is a dominant player even two years up guesting for one of the better teams in the area. The recruiting stories told to them in the parking lots is crazy. Our team seems to be breaking up or the coach is moving or finishing out at the end of the season.

As an outsider, I'm just wondering how all this drama affects the players. Will there be burnout if and when other slower to mature girls catch up mentally and physically? Will puberty and drive change things? I noticed a lot more injuries in the 2011s last year possibly from too much training and pressure to perform?? My daughter always wants to make the top team, but she wants her days off too. I think she needs those off days.

I truly think I'd rather compete against the top teams vs. the drama and pressure for these girls that probably just want to compete and play the best without the $hit show from parents and coaches. I also think what we need for our kids is more options for game time. I used to play tennis and part of my development strategy was to play a better player and then play a not as good player that I could take more risk and get creative with. This is important to keep growing and competing. More leagues and more team options would help I think.

This is interesting stuff, but this is very unhealthy drama. Makes me want to avoid all of these top tier club teams even though I'd love to make those playoff tournies in ECNL.

Soccer is a game filled with variables. 1 goal wins a game and so many things can change the outcome. Any 1 to 0 game could go the other way with some bad calls, fouls, luck, etc. Maybe that's what makes this so entertaining and why I want to avoid any teams that use pressure on these young girls to perform. I'm all for doing all you fairly can to win, but so many variables can change an outcome that you have no control over. It is not worth the stress and pressure especially if you're lucky enough to have a coach that has the underlying goal of focusing on making your daughter want to show up after a hard game to get back to work.

We are blessed to have this great competition and I for one am just thankful to get to compete against these top club teams. I just don't need my daughter on them yet. Now, when she's 16 and can drive and has the mental and physical drive to handle that pressure? That's a different story.

So how long do you think Pats, Sporting, Rebels, Breakers, Legonds, Heat, etc, etc, etc will continue playing in ECNL when they have no chance at ever winning? Even worse if you have a decent player they'll just get recruited away.

The Arizona teams probably like going to Socal + arent worried about their players getting recruited away. So not winning doesnt matter that much.

The closer all teams are in league to winning week after week the less likely participating clubs are to leave. If only 1-2 teams/clubs win week in week out eventually someone is going to say this is dumb + join a different league.

Clubs will never make $$$ if they cant show wins.

I lived it. I made mistakes but those mistakes were because of big fat liars who hid behind US Soccer, US Training Centers and the like. When a parent is told by the top scout in SD to leave one place because the US scouts said so and the dude is wearing a US Soccer logo, email, well, you listen. My dd had a little dream at 11 and I was just trying to help her and I got played and she got blacklisted. Some of these people in the youth soccer arena are ruthless liars. I never chased medals, I was just helping my dd chase her dreams. Asshats on here attacked me hard because their perceptions were 100% off because they were either jealous or just hated me and my kid. I hear US Soccer just hired someone from South Hampton and he will be in charge of the youth program. Hindsight is 20/20 so you always have experience to look back and see your mistakes. Some people make me SMFH!!!

My mom used to tell me to buy the cheapest house in the most prestigious neighborhood. That house has the most potential, but you will have to work and make it better. Some girls are more mature and can handle that pressure, but then you may have bigger issues with a child taking the wheel so to speak.

I have a healthy skepticism to most things, so I am immediately skeptical of any type of recruiting for a young girl soccer player. I'm here for the long run with a dream of my daughter getting a sport and academic scholarship to a great college. That's our dream. Women pro soccer players make as much as part time electricians, so I don't see the money/draw for promises and recruiting for young female athletes, but sure, maybe things are changing?

I may never get my dream, but along the way I have made some really damn good friends and my daughter has gained confidence and a work ethic. The byproducts of this experience outweigh what may or may not happen.

We have goals that are part of the major goal leading up to the dream and being on the top 3 teams at 11 years old is not one of them. Now, I want her to be on a team that competes with those top 3 teams, but she does not in any way have to already be on them. Peaking at 12 or 13 in your sport is exactly what we don't want.

I want her on one of those top 3 teams when she is say.......16. When she can drive and has the faculties to command her future. I see coaches talk to their players at age 11 for 10 minute or so sometimes and I see eyes looking everywhere, but him. They can't retain all that info. yet and they don't need to!

They need to play games and apply their technical training under pressure and build their skills to dominate a future position. They need to learn versatile skills and have experience playing every position imo. We dont' get that with annual contractsI and one ecnl league which really looks more like the top coaches focus on recruiting to tear other teams apart rather than to coach and build great players. We are all trapped, because we need the best competition.

I hate losing more than I like winning, but I have to learn to shut my trap and advocate for my daughter's complete development for her to eventually dominate a position against the very, very best with the potential of bad calls from refs and coaches that place her in a position at showcases or tryouts that may not be her dominant role. She must be relevant everywhere on the field imo. I see sooooo many young girls that never play defense and soooo many young girls that get locked into defense. Why are we limiting this development to make American Girls complete players?

There are tons of unnecessary shenanigans for young girl soccer imo. These girls should be playing very competitive games in different positions all the time until they are 15 or so. Then they can start getting boxed into positions and used with the purpose of representing an organization or team. More and more, I just wonder if one of the major hurdles is merely to stay in ecnl on any team and avoid injury or burnout until college? I would want her to eventually either help carry that worst house on a nice block to the best or be on one of the best at that time though. Still though, I can encourage and reward, but it's 100% up to her have the athleticism and desire when it really counts not to mention luck.

I just find it sad how hard I have to advocate and work for her to get complete game skills for every position. This is why I think we need more access to very competitive games or an ongoing league with great competition without friggen id cards or labels. I want a league where positions are rotated for all the girls and it is very convenient to sign up year round. It's another dream that will never happen though, but I would pay for this dream.

I hear ya. I helped my dd with HER dreams, not mine. Her dream was to play for the USA. I know, a big pipe dream but that's what dreams are all about. What's not to like that from a 11 year old? I wanted her to do dance, play with dolls, play house and all that girly stuff...lol. I never put her in soccer to get a deal for college and there lies the big issue we got in our country. Money does not buy you happiness and neither does a high paying job. My buddy has been divorced 3 times but has more money then most in Laguna and I mean, lot's of dollars. He got his Ph.D. as well. Today, he's on anti depressant and super unhappy. Pray for him because he's not doing good. His name is Jess, thx :)

Great post. 2010 is a narrow lens to view Legends from and their new 2010 coach seems to be pointing the team in the right direction. And give Pats a minute to catch their footing - their entry timing might be ideal if blues drama really is causing an exodus in OC.

Any truth to Blues loosing two more players this week? Insight would be appreciated… can it be due to the meltdown that has surrounded @Luis Andres via social media and IG accounts… @Chalklines your sauce was thickening but my goodness… this plot is thicker!!!!! Any thoughts @SoccerSpoiler , I want to make sure all burner accounts are covered, LOL!

The bench is basically all but gone at this point. 2-3 have left this week, and it's only Weds.

What is that, $150 a player? $300 just doesn’t go as far as it used to, but I stopped reading after he made his first million.

Interesting that a top 5 team, that lost only 4 league games, is in full meltdown mode.. Maybe a lost player for every league loss? … if they lose another game, can we expect another player to ask for a ‘release’?
Players and/or Parents arent happy + think a different option will be better.

Is it Crazy Parents? Coaching? Players not getting along? Is someone else offering something better?

My guess is overbearing parents drove each other crazy. I'm sure a couple of parents are worse than others but they're all the same to one degree or another.

I had no idea Chuck but I’ll find out. You are very quick with this info… my goodness.
