Great stuff here. Did anyone have a Doc and or coach grab you and say, hey dad, your kid has beaten my team twice with her goals. I am now a US National Scout, Director of the USA Youth Soccer Training Center and Director and Coach for the Girls Academy down here in lovely San Diego and I make the recommendations on who gets invited to Youth National Camp. Based on what I see, your kid has a spot and my recommendation." So, I want to offer you this once in a lifetime offer. Full ride, free uniforms, free travel, free privates and free access and so much more. All you have to do is STFU!!!!lol I know a lot of parents here have PTSD with youth soccer so they automatically assume the worst…
As stated by OP, I think it’s a natural progression and fine. Did some privates and saw enough quality in the kid to ask him to come join the trainings which is a great sign.
I’d ask the coach what he thinks. “Hey coach, what do you think? How do you think he fits with the team?” Usually a coach will give a direct answer. Even if he or she doesn’t, I think HOW they answer will give a good feel for where the kid stands in the team.
I’m going through this with my boys. For one of them, after 2 trainings, the coach grabbed me after and told me he had a starting spot. For another, I had to bring it up after a few trainings and coach said he had a spot but I can tell it’s more tepid of a response. Which makes total sense. Former is higher quality vs his peers than the latter vs his peers. Just different places in their development and natural talents.
I’d ask the coach. They’re receptive to it cause it’s tryout season. Many will give you a straight answer.
Good luck!
My PTSD is strong bro. This place triggers me all the time because I come here for therapy and a place to release m PTSD. I do agree with Rainbow Unicorn for a change. He/she comes from a coach's perspective and that is needed to help bring change. I have reached to DOGE and I'm still waiting for a response.
