2023 Season

Ok thank you.

@Jabroni she is on the team you had to cheat to beat its ok though we gonna be working hard over here and when we see y'all agian it won't matter who you bring
It dont matter! Respect to the opponent always but we stay ready and welcome all challengers
"You had to cheat"
"It won't matter who you bring"
"Respect to the opponent always"

You've made like 3 posts and you're already contradicting yourself. I'm pretty sure I know which team you're from and based off your username I believe I know which dad you are. Please tell me you're not the dude who was loudly yelling at his kid to slide tackle the goalkeeper?

I have not seen a lot of these teams since last year and I do not know what the rosters look like to predict. Blues and Surf were the top of the age group last year by a large margin with Blues being the better of the 2 generally speaking.

2 out of 4 correct in group stage. Crossfire vs Rangers currently underway in the finals..

Crossfire brought some really good boys teams as well.
Don't know too much about Washington teams but seems like Crossfire is a strong club up there.

A higher ranked team in SR (that is in the top 100 nationally) beats a lower ranked team 75% of the time. Not 50%. For comparison, a higher ranked team in SR (including the entire data set) beats a lower ranked team 83.4% of the time. (these numbers were shared for this thread as of beginning of April).

Does this matter in how much gap there is from higher ranked vs lower ranked?

For example, a 7th ranked team vs 12th ranked team might be a toss up no? Compared to, say a 5h ranked team vs a 70th ranked team when it'll be closer to the 75% win rate?

I don't believe so, no. For an individual game, the closer the actual ratings for each team are, the more of a toss-up. The more disparate the ratings, the less likely a toss-up. If one team is a 45.1 and another team is a 45.2, it may as well be a tossup. Doesn't matter if the teams are ranked 3rd and 4th, or 103rd and 104th. Same chances of the game outcomes. But in aggregate stats - if that 45.2 team beats that 45.1 team, it still counts as a win/success, but if that 45.1 team beats that 45.2 team, it still counts as a loss/failure. That higher ranked team will beat the lower ranked team 83% of the time - for games between all teams (whether the rating differences are 5 goals or 0.05 goals). The higher ranked team will beat the lower ranked team 75% of the time, where both teams are in the top 100 (whether the rating differences are 5 goals or 0.05 goals). That doesn't mean there is a necessarily a sliding scale that #1-#10 is least accurate, 45 - 55 is medium accurate, and 90-100 is most accurate, sliding up from 75% to 83%. If #1 is 3 goals stronger than #8, it is exceedingly likely that #1 will win. If #4 is .2 goals better than #9, that particular game is much closer to a toss-up.

Looking at 2010G, #1 team is 48.84, #10 team is 46.98, #20 team is 46.30, #50 team is 45.31, #75 team is 44.84, #100 team is 44.45. So the #1 team is expected to beat the #10 team by 2 goals, the #20 team by 2.5 goals, the #50 team by 3.5 goals, the #75 team by 4 goals, and the #100 team by 4.5 goals. From #1 to #20 there is a 2.5 goal difference, from #20 to #100 there is a ~2 goal difference. All of those potential games glommed together, with all combinations of top 100 teams actually playing each other, result in 75% predictions overall being correct - whether it was a game of #9 vs #10, or #1 vs #50. The likelihood of an accurate prediction of a win for any specific individual game, depends solely on the the ratings of the two teams themselves. (i.e. chances of #100 with a 44.45 beating #1 with a 48.84 are low, in fact SR predicts a 5-0 game, with an 84% chance of a win (for #1), 6% chance of a tie, and 10% chance of a loss).

Further down the #'s, here's what the rest of the ratings look like (2010G):

#500 41.52
#1000 39.71
#1500 38.43
#2000 37.16
#2500 35.51
#3000 33.03
#3100 31.84
#3192 25.82

Thinking it through - I believe the question you may be asking, is if the reason that the overall population is more accurate than just the top 100 population, potentially due to ratings differing between opponents moreso in the wider population, compared to the ratings differences for opponents in the top 100. It doesn't seem that way - but it is a question that Mark could pose to the database to confirm one way or the other. What are the average ratings differences for top 100 games, average ratings differences for all games, and even average ratings differences for all games minus the top 100. Yes - if #500 played #3100, there would be a 10 goal difference and it's more likely 2 meteorites take out both the keepers than #3100 winning - but I don't think it's very likely that there would be many situations where #500 is actually playing #3100 in a recorded game.

Surf blues was a toss up with both teams adding new pieces it really came down to who gelled better..
Crossfire and Eastside from washington were two of the best teams in the age. The other washington team that came down seattled united got spanked by everyone. Really suprised city sc did not make it through as at least the wild card

@JabroniBeater805 what is the deal with the Eagles playing in CSL and beating on teams 17-0 and 10-1?
Our girls have been playing well but the competition will continue to get tougher. Playing older, athletic girls in the top division in CSL (it is what it is and that's out of our control) provides a different set of challenges. After this season the team will move to ECNL anyway.

I'd put a small bet on these teams improving slightly over the season.

For everyone's sake, I hope you're right. Nobody is learning much or enjoying themselves much with 17 point goal differentials, from any perspective - the winners, the losers, coaches, both sets of parents, refs, etc. They should give the losing team field goal opportunities for 3 points if they kick it directly over the goal.

That was the preference and the league said no.
What is the reasoning Eagles gives parents for sticking with CSL? It can not be locale b/c you have league games in Lancaster, Santa Maria, Arcadia, Glendale, Sherman Oaks...surely you would be travelling less in SOCAL and the games would be more competitive
