Yeah, I'd agree on that - seems we need a third card or something for violent / dangerous conduct that includes a ban, plus a regular one that just gets you kicked out for the rest of the game.

I think the 'third' level is supposed to be the (optional) extension of 1-game red cards to multiple games.

But I agree with the sentiment: the current system of red-cards is too big a jump from the 'preceding' yellow-card.

I got all this figured out

Red Card 1- two yellows in one game or a really stupid foul. Player is removed and a new player comes in

Red Card 2- Dumb player is reckless and a danger to everyone and makes dangerous foul. Player is removed and team is punished with playing a player down. If dangerous player gets two Red Card 2's, that player is suspended forever and told to go play rugby

But, the refs will always get it wrong at times, whatever you do. I'd be open to the US style challenge system too, but again, the beauty of soccer is its simplicity and all this VAR technology to get to the "right" decision seems to be robbing us of the magic. That disallowed Croatia goal for example - I guess it was the right decision technically, but the Croatians didn't gain an advantage by being offside, it took way too long and it wasn't a clear an obvious error.

There will always be controversies, even with VAR, so we'd almost be better off going back to a system where we rage at the ref instead of raging at VAR.

A different scale of punishment exists already... smh...

If it was Violent conduct it would have been 3+ game suspension

When Suarez bit Chiellini for example there was no VAR, so he got away with it in the game, but was later suspended for 9 matches and 4 months (included training)

Balogun was a normal call, that some may agree with it and some may disagree with, one match suspension is the automatic minimum

All the stupidity and arrogance in the 36-48 hours preceding the match did nothing but firing up the usually easy going Belgium team + attracted hate from all over the world against a likable and talented team + confused and made uncomfortable our players

Not saying that the USMNT would have won, but would have been a very different game

You don't need to shake your head. We all know the "rules", like if you have a name that rhymes with "Kwanza" and could potentially play Argentina in a semi-final, that's an automatic upgrade to a two-game ban.

We were talking about a red card with no game ban(s) other than the current game. That doesn't exist currently.
