Today in Fascism

Quote of the Week
Amid all the turmoil of this past week, I believe this quote by Joe Klein is the most cogent.
There is so much flak that gets thrown up every single day that we can sometimes miss the big picture. And the big picture is that there is no area of public life that holds good options now for Donald Trump and his mob. They have spent all their capital and are now operating on fumes. They are in the final months before elections and they will clearly not be able to stop them and hold power. Though the wreckage is burning and the smoke is in our eyes we have to be able to see the larger truth: that the dictatorship was not consolidated. He and his band of fascists made war on this country and they did not win. The resistance is getting stronger and has spread deep into public opinion, in parts of Congress and, now, the Supreme Court. He is in rapid physical and mental decline, which is preventing him from understanding what he needs to do to save the midterms. And it is now too late. Regardless of anything they do, so long as we stay vigilant and active, they are blocked and doomed.

What? Every damn day, it's some new insanity with this guy. Every damn day.

It's on the way? Neither the USNS Mercy or the USNS Comfort are currently underway or on the way or making way in any way. Mercy is layberthed in San Diego and Comfort is in reduced operational status undergoing maintenance and repair in Norfolk. And what the hell does the governor of LOUISIANA have to do with it? Also, the people of Greenland have full healthcare, like in any civilized country with universal healthcare.

The nation with large numbers of sick citizens without access to healthcare and that could use some goddamn help in that regard is the United States.

Maybe Greenland could send US a hospital ship.

Trump is insane. Seriously.

Addendum: this bizarre hallucination appears to originate with reports that the Danish Coast Guard evacuated a sick US Sailor from one of our subs on patrol in the Arctic and transported him to a hospital in Nuuk, Greenland (This sort of thing happens. I myself was once transported with a burst appendix off a US Navy cruiser on patrol and taken to a hospital in a foreign country, where they saved my life). Trump somehow spun this into the Governor of Louisiana saving sick people in the arctic. I repeat, Trump is insane. Clinically. By every definition. He is not operating in reality.
