Today in Fascism

Real smart guy you got yourself aligned with there. Same guy who nominated a "female" to the SCOTUS, but couldn't define what a "female" is because she isn't a doctor. But we expect her to navigate the highest court in the land?!
Did it go over your head that I was criticizing Biden?

Correct me if I got any of this wrong --

T published Obama's home address in DC on Truth Social. Within days, a MAGA loyalist was apprehended by Secret Service in Obama's neighborhood with a vehicle full of guns and explosives. Examination of the wingnut's social media and recording devices disclosed research on how to break security in the neighborhood and threats against the Obama family.

You're 'awfwee' quiet, Fudd. Are you busy creating new profiles?

In the wake of the recent SCOTUS decision allowing businesses to decline business on moral grounds, this happened in Nashville --

God forbid we have freedom of choice. There is also the ability to choose to spend your money elsewhere. This also helps prevent unknowingly supporting someone’s business you probably wouldn’t want to if you knew them better.

This is one of those things we just don’t need government to get involved in.

Funny how the quote on that link says something about people wondering if Hunter has fallen back into his old habits.
Did I miss something? Did he get clean? Rehab? Passages Malibu? He was living out that way for some time. But I doubt his place was on the same property as Passages.

Wow... that's a blast from the past. I miss those Pax Prentiss commercials. "My daddy owns it, but I'm also a client... and we're both criminals."

From Public News:

The July 4 ruling that the federal government must not demand censorship by social media companies is a major setback in the war on disinformation, reports the New York Times yesterday. The reason, says The Times, is that the Trump-appointed judge and other Republicans have fallen prey to a conspiracy theory that a Censorship Industrial Complex exists.

Most dangerously, reports the Times, “The judge’s preliminary injunction is already having an impact. A previously scheduled meeting on threat identification on Thursday between State Department officials and social media executives was abruptly canceled…”

In other words, there’s no Censorship Industrial Complex — no conspiracy by the US government and social media companies to censor disfavored speech. At the same time, it’s a tragedy that the US government isn’t able to meet secretly with Facebook to censor disfavored speech. Got that?

You just can't make this up. It's no wonder "The Bee" is having a field day with their headlines. The well of material produced by the Woke cultural revolution is bottomless.

It is a very important issue. Most seem not to care are realize the implications of what is being done by our government to suppress speech/thought outside or contrary to the government position. We cannot allow gov to work with or force social media and other outlets to crush opinions contrary to the official line.

It is a trend to a more authoritarian future if we allow this kind of stuff to grow unchecked.

News reports claim that MTG has been voted off the Freedom Caucus island, allegedly for lack of decorum (as in that"you little bitch" shout on the House floor, I suppose). One pundit stated that that was similar to being kicked out of a crack hose for having too much crack.

Similar to why Nancy Pelosi got fired... because tearing up the President's speech on live television isn't really an act of decorum, is it?

"...on moral grounds..".

I get a little chuckle every time I see something like this. Keep on believin'.

Yeah, moral ground. If your morals and my morals don't match up, I may not want your business.

'a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.'

I think we all get a chuckle when you imply there's only 1 profile in your repertoire.

WOKE + JOKE = BROKE

I'm a free speech absolutist, so I believe we need to fight any attempts to prohibit free speech whether we like the speech, or not. However, I don't think we need to fight Wokeness. Woke is not sustainable, its eating itself and is going to fail on its own accord...as we're clearly seeing in real time. Woke is all form, no substance.

I think what RDS is doing to Disney is petty, authoritative, anti-conservative and possibly a violation of free speech. I know his fighting the woke makes him a darling of the anti-woke, but its unnecessary and childish.

I don't disagree with you but keep in mind (unless I'm wrong) but Disney picked that fight with DeSantis. Kind of like Trump and John McCain. I LOVED McCain when he was a senator in Arizona. I admired him having the guts to speak the truth and ignore party politics. He was a different man when he ran for the White House. That said, people took issue with Trump taking a shot at John being a prisoner. Well, Trump can be a douchebag, but McCain threw the first punch. You don't get to cry "victim" when you throw the first punch.

When DeSantis felt schools needed to be cautious in talking about sexuality, gender, etc., Disney took it upon itself to be critical. You're a fucking amusement park, right? Same deal to me. You throw the first punch, you aren't immune to getting hit back better and harder.

I have actually had DM conversations with Husker and others your superstition says is me, and I'm not talking to myself.

Here's a snip of one header --

That "amusement park" is a multi-billions/year enterprise in the heart of Florida's economy.

Fighting back by weaponizing the government against Disney isn't the appropriate way to go. If RDS felt he needed to fight back he could have chosen a different way.

I think feeling the need to respond to every slight is part of the problem with our politics today. This tit for tat behavior is part of why politics are so divisive and uncivil these days. Often when you return punches you are just stooping to the first punchers level. Sometimes taking the high road is the best response, and sometimes its better to quickly counter punch.
