The price we pay to save that amount is the issue.
To save $150B? In 2018 the budget was about $4T, in 2024 it was $6.75T. Think about that. It increased 50% in 6 years. That's absolutely insane. If only $150B can be identified as savings, there is something very seriously fucked up going on.

We are borrowing close to $2T per year. We are paying close to $1T in interest alone.

We are way past the "price we pay" point. We are fucking our kids and grand kids.

The meaning was, is the price worth the meager savings.

I don't agree with the approach. Clinton cut nearly 500K fed employees. But it took years and lots of consultation. It was successful and beneficial, just low energy, low PR impact, high effectiveness. It was a smart approach, and did not impact on the ability of government to provide services to citizens, like their purpose kind of thing.

That said what is the price, that's kind of undefined at the moment. USAID is pretty obvious, and a chunk of the savings. Who cares if some kids in Sudan starve to death because we cut off aid, right? Its only lives and we don't believe in the right to life once you are born, so 🤷‍♂️ .

Maybe we should look at the DoD and ask why the budget has gone up nearly $200B alone in 6 years, like huh! All good though Hegseth is on it and he has a history of managing complex budgets and driving efficiencies and ... oh wait, that's in his dreams ...

Today, my heart aches for all the kids who have been trafficked, kidnapped, raped, tortured and killed by monsters. I was spared somehow from these evil monsters from my amazing "Guardian Angel Adopted Mommy (GAAM)." Thank you to the gr8 Bette. I will always speak up for the kids. Thank you to Donald J Trump for making it his administrations #1 priority to END HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

"I will bring the full force & weight of the US Military to END human trafficking."

They & Them cheated, killed, lied and stole so much from us. They tried to kill Trump because. God will not be mocked Little e and Du Du. You will pay dearly.

Um, that's only a compounded annual increase of 1.1%, which is only about 1/3 of CPI during the same period.

It’s all been a shell game as layers are added to muddy the waters and trump is now attempting to fully monetize the system to his greatest benefit. What he knows now that he didn’t know in his first term will profit him greatly. Politicians, lobbyists, corporations have all profited in the past, now Trump is playing mob boss to take it all to a new level and asking for his cut, of everything. He loves tariffs because he can bring all players to heel. He can now punish and reward. The cryptocurrency play is simply a direct way to pay him for realtime favors, pardons and access. No we are not a full blown oligarchy nor are we an authoritarian dictatorship, we are just being taken advantage of. Trump will be long gone before this is all sorted out but the scars on our country will remain for decades.

I genuinely believe that there is narcissism and ego at play. I think he loves being in the spotlight and loves the influence that he can bring to bear. When you have the richest man in the world telling elected officials to shut up or they will be primaried and he will pay for it ... that's concerning.

I think you know that I am 100% on, that we are spending too much and need to sort out the shit show that is our government, both parties included. So, while I agree with the idea that we should be critically looking at every $ we spend and cutting excess everywhere, and taking some pain in doing that, as there will be pain; I do not believe or think that "move fast and break things" is a practical or intelligent approach to that objective.

I've also worked in the private sector all my career and know that you do not cut yourself to success. If we are treating government like a business then there's not a single business person who would propose cutting revenue while we are spending more than we earn, never mind increasing spending and cutting revenue concurrently - that's just fucking stupid on a scale of stupidity that beggars believe -from a party that claims to be all in on DOGE.

If I were Musk, and assuming he is sincere, and given his pulpit, I'd be calling out them all as hypocrites ... but no, $2T .. $1T .. $160B .. maybe
I can't disagree with that. And I don't know the timing of move fast/break things was good... though would it ever be? Certainly not while people are still struggling. But if he did it when things were back to "normal", he gets pummeled for disturbing prosperity. So do we rip the band aid off or?... Furthermore, I don't think Trump is capable of a practical and intelligent approach. If he is, it won't happen anyway because he's got something to prove. The reality is, we're in a time where the losing party will do NOTHING but criticize the winning party so what good are "approval polls" at all? It may be dramatic but I can't remember a time we've been this divided. Well beyond checks and balances. I was hoping that cloud would end with Trump's term but the DNC is already ramping up for 2028.

I keep hearing people brag about California becoming the 4th largest economy. Going from a $100B surplus to a $73B deficit, in 3 years, which Gavin can't explain, makes me wonder if being fiscally responsible is more important (than staying in power) to ANY of them.

I predicted this would be where Little e and Du Du has IT's foundation. Obama and Columbia our together. By the way, Barak was invited to the NATO party in Costa Rica and will go visit Kilmar on the way.

Here is a healthy dose of whataboutism. In the same time period, the DOE spending grew from $40b to $268 b, or a compound annual increase of 14.5%. This is while our test scores are falling.

Yes, DOE spending is considerably less than DOD, but DOE is still the 6th biggest spending department in our federal government. Education can be handled by the states, but national defense cannot. I have no doubt, that there is overspending in defense, but its costs are not rising in an out of control manner like other departments.
