Functionally, he is a dictator until martial law is rescinded. For some leaders, such as Marcos in the Philippines, martial law settled into a dictatorship.

And the Ukrainian parliament has extended martial law continually since 2022, which is unsurprising obviously. Parliament has the option not to extend it, though that would be extremely unlikely while Ukraine is at war. He has clearly defined and extended powers due to martial law. He's still their president, under their constitution, with the extended powers given by parliament typically every 90 days.

That doesn't say dictator to me, unlike say Putin!

Let's be perfectly honest, the US doesn't really give a shit about Ukraine. We only give a shit about stopping Russia. If Belarus got into a war with Ukraine we'd likely just sit on the sidelines. Ukraine is a highly corrupt country and is hardly a shining light of Democracy.

The war is at stalemate, and has been for a long time. The only thing that is going to change is the number of deaths. Even if Russia were to gain a little bit of territory in a settlement, Russia has effectively badly lost the war. Its military has been decimated and its economy seriously damaged. Estimates are that Russia has had 800,000 killed or severely wounded versus 80,000 for Ukraine. Claims of appeasement are comical (actually just TDS) if you end a war started by Russia without Russia even coming close to achieving their goal.

I was being facetious about Zelensky being a dictator, that was a response to your implication that Zelensky would sell out his country.

. . . and, according to Trump and co. this country is a “highly corrupt country” so wouldn’t that be a reason to be attacked? And would the rest of the world give a shit?

Like I mentioned before, I have concerns with the blanket firings, particularly when it impacts access to our National Parks. However, your example isnt a Trump issue, its a government incompetency and internal control issue.
