Congrats to Rebels for winning the Vegas Cup. My DD's team has played them several times in the last year and this is a team that I have seen improve every time that they've played. They play great soccer and are definitely are deserved champions.

For those interested- I did score predictions for Vegas Cup using the YSR predictor model. There were 27 games played and 54 predicted scores (2 per game, 1 per team). Based off of the scores predicted, the predictor got the exact score 14/54 times (25.93%). The predictor was within 1 GD of the exact score 40/54 times (74.07%). The predictor was within 2 GD of the exact score in all 54 predictions (100%) of the time. YSR's predictor is very accurate. This was as of 1/2/2023.

YSR accurately predicted the result (correct winner or draw) of 18/27 games (66.67%).

YSR accurately predicted 3 of the 4 semi-finalist. The one team that they didn't accurately predict would win their bracket had added 2 top players to their roster.

YSR also accurately predicted the final. They didn't predict the correct winner of the tournament, however. The tournament was won in PKs by Rebels.

Sporting Slammers and Eagles are the bracket busters. On the first day, 18 of 24 (75%) results were accurately predicted using YSR's predictor model. Sporting Slammers and Eagles accounted for 4 of the 6 inaccurate predictions. The other two were Pats vs DMCV Sharks (predicted a 1-1 tie, ended up a 4-1 win for Pats) and City SC vs Blues Shelton (predicted a 2-0 City win, ended up a 2-1 Blues win). I'll post more data after group rounds are over.

Were those F2 teams forced to play in Super Cup?

if so, that’s a little unfair and something So Cal should look into next year

Santa Barbara having to travel all that way to play the best team in the country, how fun!

I know Legends TV was forced to play in the elite bracket. We did not meet the GPG threshold.
Yea, that sucks. But welcome to the club, SB!

Beach Ayala is a F2 team , though they did a little better 0 GF, 6 GA

we’re those the smallest fields and goals your team played on all season?

I know they technically meet the requirements , but it was definitely a shock to see those smaller goals

I was not there last weekend due to being at the Surf fields with my youngest DD. I'll check it out this Saturday, though.

My daughter is on Eagles and during the CSL season we played up vs 2011 teams. There were fields we played on where opposing teams were banging in goals top corner on kick offs and free kicks from the opposite side of the field. Fields at Silverlakes are small but feel like an 11v11 size field compared to those lol. Granted we were also on Field 5 this weekend by the entrance so I didn't see what the fields in the central part look like. The goals were tiny but Vegas Cup last weekend had shorter goals than this so that helped too.

It's possible. My son's B09 team was forced to play Super Cup. Entered into Elite Cup but when the brackets were released they had placed them in Super Cup and got an e-mail the next day asking for the difference in fees since we were now in Super Cup lol.

I'm curious about this as well. The team placement criteria was clearly established and published at the beginning of the season. I know we may never know for sure, but I wonder if these 2012 teams requested to play up a bracket or were forced.

Just curious if your son's team was bracketed outside the published team bracket criteria? Did they finish in the mid to upper group of Flight 1 or were they at the bottom of the bracket at the end of league play? Did they finish with a PPG of 2.5 (or higher) or 0.8 (or lower)? I'm genuinely interested in how consistent SOCAL is at adhering to its own published policies.

They finished 1st in Flight 1 North with a 2.42 PPG. By the guidelines given, they should be playing in Super Cup and SOCAL moved them into Super Cup so there's that.

There was a bit of an internal debate as to which Flight they should enter in but the coach's thought process is that they would get rolled up by the top NPL and upper half ECNL teams. Guess we'll find out as they're 4 goal underdogs to Pats ECNL in the group stage.

Going from Flight 1 play to ECNL is going to be a tough match. I do think that there is a lot of similarity in the SOCAL NPL to Flight 1 play comparison as there has been no promotion and relegation between the two. I think the top Flight 1 teams are probably just as good as the top NPL teams. We will just have to wait and see how this year goes; if there are any trends. SOCAL may have to make some changes to their placement guidelines. Good luck to your team.

We compete with the NPL Champions whenever we play (they're from the same city as us) so I think you're right in that the difference in level isn't that significant. Whenever we play ECNL teams though the speed of the game is much faster and you can see the difference in levels immediately. We'll see how it goes. Appreciate you.

So it looks like...
Bracket A...Blues and Slammers Crowley

Bracket B...Surf is a lock...LA Surf HW is in with a tie/win but need to keep it close and Blues Leslie needs a big win...

Bracket C...Eagles advance with a tie/win OR Pateadores ties/loss, Slammers advance with tie/win, Pateadores win and they're in...

Bracket D...Slammers FC & Beach SB are both in but will battle for first...loser plays Bracket A#2 winner plays Wildcard#1, there is a lot to play for

Bracket E...Blues Shelton is in, Empire need a tie/win...Bracket winner has to play Bracket F#2 which is winner of Rebels/Legends, 2nd place is against Bracket F#1...Blues Shelton have a real predicament here...win and you're likely to play Rebels or lose and you're likely to play Sporting Slammers...

Bracket F..Sporting Slammers wins the group...Rebels/Legends are playing for 2nd place

Wildcard (3 spots) There are a lot of ways this can play out but most likely 4 points gets you into the next round...Blues Leslie/LA Surf HW and City SC/Empire will probably claim 2 of the spots...3rd spot likely is a 3 point team with best GD...theres also a scenario where Bracket B#3 Bracket C#3 Bracket E#3 Bracket F#3 all have 4 points and one of them does not make it through

Dont think you want to go into the knockout rounds on a loss, esp when the team is finally starting to pick up some momentum.

Win Bracket E and face Rebels and then Slammers AW/Beach/Wild Card 1
Tank Finish 2nd and face Sporting Slammers and then Slammers Crowley Elite/Eagles/Wild Card 2

Finshing 2nd is more appetizing especially if Eagles wins their bracket (no offense but they just played in December to a draw) playing against two teams that over achieved and you have beat in the past
