Here are the ratings/rankings of all the HB Koge teams:

It is pretty wild how close they appear from 2008 on up in age, and the 08's and 07's do stand out a bit from 06.

But even if you look at only the top team in the nation for each age group, it's not far off either from 2008 and up (3 goal difference from 2008 to 05/04):

I'm not sure it's as off as you might think. As shown above, it was quite close in its prediction on how the HB Koge 08's would do against the 07 teams it faced. Remember - the app has no concept of age - a team is just a collection of game results assigned to it, which map the difference between the competing teams every game. If there is enough cross play between age groups (and there typically can be, when stellar teams play up in a region), the ratings get normalized enough to look pretty solid. HB Koge 08 tied the 07 Eagles, beat LAFC 07 by a goal, and beat SDSC 07 by a goal. The ratings had them beating the Eagles by a goal, beating LAFC by 2 goals, and beating SDSC by a goal. 3 games isn't definitive - but I'd say it's a pretty good showing by most people's estimation, across different age groups.
They tied the Eagles 08 ECNL team, not the 07 team. Based on game play (PPG), the best ECNL 08 team in the SW are Legends, same conference as Eagles and the opposite conference to HB Koge (they play each other in March). Anyway, HB Koge are definitely one of the best 08 sides in the country - SW is just so strong.

You're right - I had seen the other teams as 07 and incorrectly assumed the same age for the Eagles; the HB Koge 08 ECNL team did in fact play the Eagles 08 ECNL Team on 11/27. (Ratings for that have HB Koge winning by 2, for what it's worth, so Eagles overperformed a bit, and Koge actually underperformed a bit).

How do you see offense and defense?

Right in the team details of those screenshots. It gives 3 ratings - Overall, offense, and defense. Overall is the same type of rating that there has always been, offense & defense are new, and are tied to goals for and goals against. The raw ratings numbers don't tell as much as the ranking (in state, or nationally). In this case, it shows that SDSC has the top overall rating, and is also 1st in state in offense, but 2nd in state in defense. While Rising is 2nd overall in state, 3rd in offense, but actually comes in 1st for defense. (the Royals, who are 3rd in state overall, show the 2nd rated offense) If you want to see how the offense/defense ratings are calculated, the FAQ explains the algorithm used.
