Pateadores Girls DA 03/04 - Observations

I remember NP's Eclipse teams. How well did they do is a question you might want to ask yourself. Also what players has he developed? I would also ask why he and AR went their separate ways. I like NP but those are legitimate questions if he is leading the DA program. Questions that some of us older parents already know the answer too. Especially gkrent...

Not sure if this is a dig at NP or more a leading question to help ligitify him/discredited AR etc MAP?

MAP - I'm sure you'll know if I've got this right and have all the info but I'll put it out there and you or gkrent can correct anything I've got wrong. Didn't NP win a national title at the Eclipse in 2010 before ECNL took a complete strangle hold on girls youth soccer? and always had teams in CSL Premier when it was considered "the place to be" and the best league in the US before the SCDSL breakwaway happened. So 'his' teams on paper did pretty well. At the Pats it looks like he has started to raise their girls side in the past couple of years and been getting girls placed in college as well but don't think anyone would argue it's at the level of the current big clubs. I'm sure the hope is having DA status will mean they can now attract the better talent.

When it comes to individual players I know he has had a lot of players go on and play at college at different levels and think one of the national championship winning team members went on to play for the U20 National Team (or similar) and plays(ed) pro. I think he also had another player go and play professionally in Europe recently. Now does this count as "developing" them? I don't know, but it's hard to argue who developed any individual player outside of themselevs and their own hard work.

Why a coach parts way with a club or colleague is a dangerous road to go down and not sure it's wise for anyone to discuss it on a public forum, I don't know the reasons personally and wouldn't want to speculate. Its prob best to go to the source directly for questions/answers on areas like that (unless it's already public knowledge - MAP/gkrent?) All I do know is that anyone who's been around for the past few years can probably name 20+ coaches that have parted ways with AR including a good few this year of his current staff. A better question maybe to ask someone who is, or has been, in ARs club why this happens?

Just trying to show the Pats a little love for doing a technical tryout. Didn't see the same thing at other ones actually. Same old split into groups and scrimmage - so horrible

ESPNANALYST, thanks for your post. I am trying to understand/visualize a "technical tryout" versus the usual cattle call tryouts. If possible, would you describe how this tryout was different? How it was a technical tryout?

Most tryouts seem to be running through the motions - have the girls scrimmage. It seems that the framework of the team is in place. The coaches seem to be looking for the missing piece(s) and of course, new/unknown players that stand out. The "unknown" girls that shine at the busy scrimmage tryouts tend to be strong, fast, and large. And there is nothing wrong with being strong, fast, and large! It is hard to assess technical skills during group scrimmages.

If I understand your post, the Pats did something different from the usual group scrimmage. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the Pat's DA tryouts.

WOW-that's an astonishing amount of coaches leaving an organization. I couldn't imagine how many talented coaches and players have left that organization in the same time span....

Like I said before I like NP. You bring up a great point about AR and it is already well known by many of us posters who have been around for a while. Not sure about a national championship in 2010. It wasn't an ECNL championship or a USYS championship so not sure of how legit it is. I will say that he is a good coach.

Looks like it was a USYS championship in 2010 at U18 so I'm guessing it was a pretty solid group of players he worked with.

I did not know that they won. I don't remember much about that team. NP does a good job with what he is given. In all fairness that was the last year of USYS competition for my player. I sort of miss the time that we spent driving up to Lancaster. The ground dusted with snow her and I singing Drake.

Enjoy the time now as it goes really fast. Once U15 (high school) comes it is over in a blink of an eye.

AR appears to be an acquired taste. Unfortunately, I never acquired that taste.

I do think the coach turnover that Strikers OC has seen over the past couple of seasons does warrant some concern.

For whoever has been to a DA tryout, did they seem to be looking for technique or physicality for the most part? If I'm being honest with myself, my daughter would not make DA if they are prioritizing physical, and I am aware that many clubs already do this. She is rather small and not very fast, but her technique is what has kept her a starter in her elite club and a participant of the national training they do once a month. I don't know if her skills will cut it this time though, being that the DA teams are of combined age groups.

Not very fast or not very quick? There's a big distinction between the two in soccer. You can get away with not being fast (i.e. 5o yard dash) as long as you are quick (i.e. 10 yard shuttle).

That's a great question. I haven't been to one. You are basically asking are they going to live by the mission statement of the DA or do what they have always done which is try to win. I am curious to hear the answer. If I was in Vegas I know what my money would be on.

I have never heard this 03 group of parents talk about size and speed so much.

@rainbow_unicorn true and the 10 yard shuttle is a thinking dd race. That's what soccer speed is. I have yet to see any club time girls. Your dds technical skills and soccer IQ is all you need to bring @Soccerdadd. Soccer IQ is a two step lead in any sprint race that might happen in a match. Other than that it's just a really fast kid out there.

@Soccerdadd there aren't any dads standing 7 feet tall yelling run through her or use your size. Make sure your dd doesn't flinch if she gets in traffic because big feet on sound loud in traffic. Once she gets in space it's back to 94.7 the Wave. I hope this helps and if my grammar isn't Tommy Bahama par use http://www.urbandictionary.com/ to underdig what I'm saying before to step into any socal 03/04 tryout.

I think that the test 20 yard shuttle in college.

The beep test!!!
Cross Country and track teams murder the beep test. I believe it's more of a volume test then something you throw in at a tryout. Don't get me wrong if you are testing the psyche and endurance it's a great tool if you are coming off a break or have a clue of the girls tech ability. Other then it its just a new flavor of Tang. It won't tell if a dd is DA space program level. It's all about space and time and creating it.

If they can't do well in the beep test they are one and done at YNT camp. I've seen it. At the international level with only 3 subs everyone has to be extremely fit and ready to play 90 minutes being 100% effective.
