How’s the 2025-2026 season going?

Elite Trigger Warning!!!

One big fucking problem for college soccer players is what they have to endure on campus. The politics is insane. Professors are so woke and soon to be broke for teaching BS all day. A pro soccer player does not have to deal with all the crap at BIG U today. It's bad folks and getting dangerous. You can't even speak your mind at campus with retaliation.

The trick to not having kids fall into the left politics of college is to tell them they need to have a job while attending classes.

When you have to grind to make enough money to hang out with friends people tend to make more rational decisions. Also when you see how much gets taken out of your check in taxes you tend to distrust goverment programs.

I would say they are just as much of a unicorn if not more compared to a girl who does soccer+grade+SAT. Wouldn't the girls who play soccer at Stanford, Harvard, etc. (top academic D1 programs) fall in the latter category? Maybe we're both using the term unicorn too loosely but I was more comparing OM and AT to the good-at-everything girls.
My Unicorn term comes from MAPs. He used to be on here and he helped me interstand the going on with this youth soccer stuff back in 2018. I was confused parent back then because my dd was kicked out of the old GDA league because she went to public school and was told no girls who want to be Unicorns can play HS Soccer anymore. MAPs said a Unicorn is someone who is a baller at soccer, high GPA, like 4.5 and SAT over 1400. Plus, he said you have to give your time to the community and help others. My little girl was stuck in the middle because she wanted to do both and. Nope, it's "either or" says the lying Docs. My child followed the rules and just like many Elites do, they changed the rules so their private school kids good do both and. Anyway, the world watching and let's see what happens. College campuses are becoming shooting galleries and that is not a joke. When was the last time someone shot up a professional soccer academy?

Get a job plus play soccer at Big U? Damn bro, that's asking a lot for a young 18 year old girl. Get excellent grades, study all day, be nice to the professor and agree with the professor always and never debate in class, work hard at practice and then go work. Oh joy, what a way to play soccer.

Not the kitchen.

Not necessarily. Niche shows Stanford to have a 1510-1580 average SAT range. A recruit I know was told they just needed to break 1200 to get in. They just beat that by a few points and were accepted. Good luck not being an athlete and getting in with a 1200 SAT.

Im talking about in general.

BTW if you're playing sports in college now you are getting paid. ;-)

Young teen girls in Europe play soccer and more soccer and the top goal for the top players in Euro is pro and not Big U. That is their life and their dream. I 100% know many talented players who want and went to college and then get a career outside of soccer and make real money. I mean, isn't that what life's all about, making the big bucks. That's awesome as well and both the dreamer for pro soccer and the dreamer for higher education can co-exist. The problem with US Soccer, it's ALL about college or you're a loser and won't make much money unless your Olivia or Alyssa. Are these two better players by no going to college? Yes! Would AT be playing with Chelsea and the WSL? No, it's not even close. Think about it. Take Stanford. That is no easy walk in the park academically. 3 months of soccer and then study 24/7 and get in some Spring and Summer pick-up games. Think about the pressure to not only be amazing soccer player in HS, but also one who can study 24/7, get 1500 SAT and 4.7 GPA. No parties, no boyfriends and no fun. Soccer Training+Grades+SAT+ Outstanding human=Unicorn. The player that can pull this off is freaking amazing person and athlete and my hat off to them. I think it's asking way too much for the average Jo. In Europe, it's soccer+soccer+soccer=Soccer Player and no grades or SAT to add to the pressure. I wonder how Messi would have done if they & them told him he better get high scores in biology and math. If he scores low, he sucks!! The players in Europe do not have to carry a high GPA or SAT to be one of the best and that's why I have been saying for 10 years, "The world is watching" and were getting behind.
This right here is the problem. Your going to see these top elite girls the 2-3 on each ECNL team have to decide on going to a regular school and high school or going to one of these soccer schools. I just don't see the current setup being sustainable for the top girls. Some of these top soccer girls are even choosing the academically harder schools and even putting more stress on themselves as there is for sure a difference out there academically at these high schools. Now the question is and its going to take girls to challenge this, is will the top D1 programs accept the girls that go to the soccer school or will they be shunned because these colleges know that they are doing is nothing compared to the athlete that's still maintaining her quality of play but also getting the 4.0+ at a top high school. These soccer schools are still relatively new so I don't think that question has ben answered yet. If it is and lets say the UCLA's, Stanford's, NC's if they start taking girls that went to soccer school for high school then the popularity of those soccer schools will sky rocket. Honestly in thinking about it while I'm typing this unless the college gives them some type of academic pass as well I don't see how the kid would come close to keeping up in regular college after going to a soccer school for lets say 7 years and then straight into a top college program. The only way to prepare for what's in store for you at a top D1 school is to get used to it now. Its definitely a very tricky road to try and be navigating right now. Good luck to all those that are on the road right now.

For the record, I am not a fan for soccer schools for girls. Boys maybe when their 16+.

Well, the most of the top D1s have some players who did online school - this could be close to the education some might get at a "soccer school".

You think "soccer school" would teach biology? How about Trigonometry? My buddies kid got a degree online in 2 years in finance and already got a a high paying job and has ZERO debt. Dad bought him a used car as a gift for saving dad thousands.

Breakers and Koge are definitely athletic, big and physical. From what I have seen Breakers have more speed but think Koge has more technical ability. Think some teams are struggling because players have caught up. Early bloomers who dominated at 13 are getting caught up to and surpassed by late bloomers who are now experiencing improvements at 15. Teams relying on players who were dominant when they were younger might be running into trouble now that girls are catching up and the playing field has leveled off. That's why there is more parity in the league. Also, injuries are a huge factor. They are more serious at this age and take longer to bounce back from and when they do some players just aren't the same as before. All of this is the reason colleges don't seriously look at players until sophomore/junior year. Should be an interesting remainder of the fall season. It's a long road.

Not all SW defense is going backwards, HBK,breakers- they seem to be doing just fine.
I'm really confused on the rise of Breakers. Don't really understand the rankings app and how they jumped so quickly. They did poorly (Didn't win a game) in playoffs (Lost to #47, #3 and #21) and played only 2 top 20 teams since. They won one by one goal Mustangs #15 in a Tournament and tied one Slammers #18. Now they are ranked #6 in the nation. Make that make sense please because it makes absolutely zero sense to me.

Probably when they played West Coast tournament this summer beating up on a bunch of teams including their own RL team and an AYSO united team.

yeah, just shows how whack the rankings app is.
How so? I don't know anything about this team so this question is related the comment about the app and rankings itself.

Here are the actual results vs expected results as predicted by the rankings app for the Breakers 5 league games so far:
Pats: 3-1 actual; 4-1 expected
Slammers: 2-2; 2-1
Eagles: 3-1; 3-0
LAFC: 2-0; 2-1
Sporting: 6-0; 5-0

Seems pretty spot on. What am I missing? Why is the app whack?

because they jumped from like wherever they were to 6 and only played 2 teams in the top 20 and none from the top 10 so how do you get to 6? Normally for southwest the predictor is pretty close but a jump like that makes me question the actual rankings. It is called the Rankings App.

Yup, I know the app. The expected results I listed were directly from the app and are based on Breakers rankings today, which is 3 in CA, 6 in country. Their actual league results seem in line with the expected results of the #3 in CA/#6 in US team. In other words, the current rankings seem fair. Unfortunately, we can't go back in time to look at predicted results based on old rankings.

If you consider the individual game results, the ranking makes sense as well.

Beat the #19 team in CA 3-1.
Tied the #7 team in CA 2-2.
Beat the #13 in team CA 3-1.
Beat the #9 team in CA 2-0.
Beat the #29 team in CA 6-0.

Maybe you can argue they should be a slot or two lower but I don't see how you draw the conclusion that this "just shows how whack the rankings app is"? Can you give more specifics on what this is based on other than it doesn't feel right to you? What am I missing?

The 2010G Breakers have been on a tear the past few months. If you look at their game history, they have performed as expected, or above what is expected, in every single game going back the the beginning of July. This is comparing their current rating (50.58), against the rating of their opponents. You can see this by the color of the results (green for overperform, black for expected, red for underperform). Looking at the most recent ECNL league results, it seems like their rating may start to go down a smidge, as it went up significantly when they demolished all of the GA and RL team by many goals (many more than would have been expected) in early August.

Remember - the sole intention of the rating is to predict whether this rated team will beat this other rated team if its rating is higher. Ranking them is all well and good, and should generally show strength correlating with the relative ratings - but it's not about getting a Ranking top score. It's about continuing to beat the opposition.

Where I thought you were going, and what I think is interesting, is how did this team improve? Was it an influx of talent? Or did the team gel and get coached up? If it's the latter, that's awesome, kudos to Breakers, and what we'd hope to see happen in youth soccer.
