2009 - Surf and MVLA both in the semifinals - potential final if they both advance
2008 - Koge in the semifinals
2007 - Koge national champion

For a SoCal national team, I mean, it sounds pretty crazy, but then you forget, we have 13 ECNL clubs in SoCal that talent is spread around. And even with that, we still manage to dominate the playoffs including going to the finals in pretty much every age group, not just the 10s. Most states have 1-2 top clubs where as with SoCal there are 5 top clubs. I could imagine the best XI from that giving most national teams including a second USYNT a run for their money.

No, in the recent years, Bay Area Surf has brought in elite players from other NorCal clubs, increasingly favoring roster strength over legacy ties, especially in younger age groups.

This sets BA Surf apart from typical NorCal programs, which often have strong starting XI but weak benches filled with legacy players. This may work in league play during season, but it falls short at ECNL Nationals, where depth and endurance with so many matches are crucial against elite competition.

A week ago, we were certain that Koge 10's might wind up being the greatest youth soccer team in American history, and the SoCal 10's were getting hosed by the powers that be forcing them to beat up on each other, rather than allowing an all-socal final 4.

Will a round of humility ensure?

Kids and soccer will never not have wide variability, so take the successes with as much grains of salt as the losses. It's an immense accomplishment just to get there.

I heard there was very limited substitutions and stamina declined - Richmond is not kind to those from a diff summer climate.

Perhaps fresh legs and an amazing bench wasn’t utilized? Anyone know if the other team used substitutions as a winning strategy?

Was able to source some video from Legends training session tonight preparing for the big game tomorrow. Its a little grainy so please set your expectations accordingly.

Its nice to see Legends coaches providing "hands on" examples to enable player development.

Good luck to Legends FC in tomorrow's final. This is a battle of two different teams but the two best teams in the Country that are on fire and playing with pure ganas. Hawks bring that "cold as Ice" Michigan mindset and are very aggressive, kind of like the old Blues teams. From what I hear, no one is scoring on these Hawks. Legends plays the passing game. No way a GA team could hang with any of these teams in ECNL.

My pal is on site and seeing the action up close and personal. He has a dd playing ECNL and GA and speaks truth bro. He DM me this morning and said the GA is not even close. Park the bus and get super lucky with bad luck from the other top ECNL teams. Basically, the only way to compete with the top teams in ECNL would be bad luck of injuries, illness and missed shots. It can happen in this sport, but he said no way GA's top teams could even compete with Hawks, legends, Koge and Surf. I still feel to settle things fair, the ECNL champ should play the GA champ to settle things on the field and not with opinions built from animosity, envy and jealousy.

Impressive run for sure. They had to go through some really good teams including the best of SoCal and Texas. To only give up 2 goals through that entire stretch, against who they faced is hard to fathom. Well deserved champions.

Anyone know how Surf Cup accounts for ties/shootouts?

I'm specifically looking for how the scores are recorded. As an example if the score was 2-2 but the shootout ended at 6-7. What gets recorded? I'm asking because I saw a 2-2 finish but shootout that went all the way 6-7 and the score was recorded as 2-3.

I couldn't find anything in the event rules.

My guess is Surf Cup records as 2-3 not 6-7 to avoid teams colluding to advance based on GF.

As a Midwesterner who plays this Hawks team every year (and watched the game feed today), I can confirm all of the above. Well said. Hell of a playoff run.

Congrats to a solid year by Legends as well. The talent on that team was evident so I’m sure they’ll continue to be a force along with the usual California/ Texas blue bloods.
