Heat warning this weekend

What forecast were you looking at? I never saw anything like that for San Diego. It’s at the hottest party of the day right now Saturday and it’s 80 in Oceanside. Carlsbad is 81. It was never projected to be over 86 all week in those areas. Del Mar is 77.
It’s 100 where I live and my turf is reading at 180 degrees at 1pm.

I was just looking at the weather app for all these locations. It’s just interesting what clubs wanted to cancel and which didn’t. Surf and Legends were the only two clubs to cancel. Norco is 110 but DelMar is 79. Going off the weather apps right now. Games were played all over SoCal yesterday and today. Games were played in Phoenix this weekend and it’s 105 today. I just thought it was interesting Surf was one of the clubs that said it was too hot at 80 degrees. If you’re in Del Mar and it’s 100 right now then these weather apps are really bad but I doubt it’s 20 degrees off.

no games in Del Mar, but games at OC Great Park went along... also, SCAL teams went to Vegas and Phoenix and played in over 105...

Devin Nunes says Apple is playing with the weather apps to make it look like global warming will finally burn us all alive. True story. I looked the other day, and it said 126 degrees in Palm Springs. My Android said 109. Regardless, it's hot as hell in most places not called Del Mar and La Jolla.

100 degrees at turf field in Norcal, all games played. Wasn't pleasant, and refs gave water breaks halfway in each half; but no other real issues other than some frustrating sunburn which I must have missed with sunscreen spray...

In the month of Aug we attended 3 Socal tournaments and my kids won every game. Very proud of the players + no complaints. But... I literally spent 9 days in middle of the day Socal sun.

Tournaments need to do more for providing shade and entertainment between games. Take a hint from the AZ people and provide misters in tents.

Probably not going to happen. AZ it is hot 8 months out of the year. So Cal, not so much. It is a cost/benefit decision. Same thing as having snow plows in Denver. They don't have them since bad snow days are few and far between. When it does happen, they put blades on trash trucks and it is a sight to behold. (total disaster)

I know the following clubs cancelled, rescheduled, or postponed afternoon games this weekend (at least for younger kids): East County Surf, Sporting SD, Rebels, ELI7E, Scripps Ranch FC. There were more, but you get the picture.

We played at 10:25 in Allied Gardens yesterday and it was 95 at kick off and 100 by the end of the game per NOAA. We had a large cooler full of ice and wet hand towels which was a life saver. If our game on Saturday afternoon wasn't rescheduled to the morning, I would not have let my kid play along with the majority of our team's parents. BTW, my wife's coworker had an 8 year old overheat in a game this weekend and they had to pull over on the way to urgent care to call 911.

These temps are not acceptable for young kids to play in. Unless you are continually training in this type of heat and are conditioned to it. Kudos to the clubs who put safety ahead of convenience and money.

They will swear its only 2 months.
Hot is not only a function of temp. Humidity plays a big part. In PHX 90-95 is comfortable. We are in high school football season now.. games and practices in full pads since August same as it has always been here. I did it 40 years ago so did thousands of others, you adapt. Its not like this is new. You socal folks are soft as 10 ply.

For when you have youngers nearly every team we have been on a couple parents had these. At least one for the bench.

You know what Zonies do to stay cool? They come to San Diego. I saw this comedian who joked about Zonies calling it a dry heat, he said "well you can lick my wet arse". He also said his oven is a dry heat, but he doesn't stick his head in it.

Just joshing with you tjinaz, I appreciate you guys staying open for youth sports during Covid.

You aren't lying. Sometimes you need to go to SD or Flagstaff to get a break for a weekend. Its all worth it from Late October until March.
