Guest players - what to do

ECNL demanded Strikers FC put their boys in ECNL and drop MLS. If they didn't obey, then the Strikers FC girls would be punished and kicked out of ECNL.
They did this for every team in SoCal. This split the talent on the boys side for a while, but over time the teams that stayed ECNL are losing ground because of the draw of the MLS Academies (justified or not...).

Do they use the Gotsport ranking or the soccer ranking app ranking? The two can be drastically different.
I can't say what they use (or if they use anything), but Gotsport doesn't have enough data to be predictive and the data they do have is often skewed by clubs that create "tournament teams" to win trophies. Soccer rankings is far more comprehensive.

It was also harmful to many females looking to go play in college. Like I said when this went down, ECNL should have allowed the older Striker Girls teams to finish out ECNL. That would have been very nice and considerate since mom and dad paid thousands in ECNL club dues and travel cost and they got the rug pulled from under them. Thousands invested in ECNL all gone like a fart in the wind. Ask any of the boys on the Strikers FC or any MLS Clubs if they would play for the girls ecnl and they would all say no.

You can only request a bracket, though, right? Doesn't every (cough) respectable tourney organizer use rankings to schedule?
I suspect from your inadvertent cough that perhaps some tourney organizers are not as diligent at checking requests against rankings.

I can't speak to what tourney organizers do; the ones my son has played in have seemed fairly well-balanced, but if you're a Flight 3 team playing a top-60 team in a tourney, either they didn't have enough teams to make the bracket remotely fair, or something is very bad in the match-ups. Our club's top 2011 Boys team (my son's age, the team above his) is around top-100 in CA, and plays in the NPL bracket (and when possible, plays in "higher-level" tournaments with mainly other teams in the top 100 ish). Those teams would generally beat Flight 1 teams, and crush teams below Flight 1.

It’s particularly a problem at the older ages for non marquee tournaments (eg something not a surf cup) because at that age most of the letter league teams are focused elsewhere…going to some tournament thanksgiving week or Memorial Day week just isn’t important anymore…. and the spread of talent is much more severe. It seems to usually happen to fill out the brackets. At one recent tournament the top bracket ranged from an mls next team to a socal state cup champion to a Latino Rec team (guess which one won…does such a win even have any meaning?). In the year beneath that, they had an ea team (despite that there was a higher bracket with ea teams in it) in the lower bracket against flight 2 and 3 teams (again guess which one won?). It’s was all about the brackets and making sure everyone had at least 3 games.

We need a parents' union!
We need a seat at the decision table 100%. I've been ringing the bell for this for 6 years. All the Docs, coaches and owners of these leagues hate to deal with parents except when in its tryout time or payment time. Were the one's paying the bills, and we get no say in anything. You do as told or else. If you dare speak out about a Doc having sex for exchange for play time, you will be squashed like a bug from the frat house leader, who I call the Boss or God Father.
