G2010...how’s the season going 2019?

At the end of the day, it’s a business and if parents want to pay for their kids to play no matter how bad they are, clubs aren’t turning away dollars. At least at this young age.

So we are all set for Blues vs Ole finals tomorrow 8:30 am. Should be a good one. Girls should be ready for sure. The only thing that has me worried is my DD is now with a cold. Big girl from the Blues got her sick yesterday so she needs to rest up and give it all she’s got tomorrow. She got some rest during the Utah game and now it’s straight to the hotel and bed time soon for her.16343CED-40C0-4BC5-9606-1730F419A186.jpeg

Sorry to hear that Luis! Either way it will be a good game.

Good luck with all that "lateral running". Shes gonna get chewed up if she hangs on to the ball and tries to go around. Blues too fast for that.

Every time I see the blues play seems to be different, sometimes direct as heck, against lesser teams RR has them passing like crazy. I expect you'll see the direct game tomorrow

We’ll see what tomorrow brings. They are a good team but definitely beatable. Legends, Eagles and SDSC have proven so.

RR brings that English toughness to the girls side of the game.

Respect to all the teams that play that style but being Latino and South American, we don’t have the size or the speed to match them to play the same style of game but we have been very successful playing possession soccer. Chile being the shortest of all teams is a classic example on how tiki-taka mixed with high press can be used to beat the big tall fast and tough European teams. They played like a pack of wolves using the Bielsa style of soccer a mixture of tiki-taka and high press defense and attack. See how its done. How David can beat Goliath. Our girls are all latin small average in size, some faster than others and homegrown and not recruited. There is no way we can ever adopt an English style soccer and expect to win games.

No trolling here. Just cruising by in my 64. But would like to add to the coaching conversation at Surf in that age group. AB plays a more direct game and has typically picked athletic and players with pace. Having seen Surf coaches from U8 to DA not all are inline with possession.

There is nothing wrong with direct ball. For some of you to call it kickball is a shame and a disrespect to the English who by the way invented the sport. It involves a lot more than just kicking the ball. Playing through narrow gaps with the ball on the ground could be difficult and so one alternative is achieved by playing lofted passes into the front line for a target player to knock down to ring-fencing midfielders. This is to say that when the lofted ball is played towards the target player, teammates will anticipate the destination of the knock down and move into the pocket of space to receive the ball, thus evading the opponent’s midfield screening block. Now that one of the two defensive lines has been escaped, the team in possession is in a position to either shoot or play through balls between the back line, who are now likely to be more disorganized. Particularly because the defenders will have been attracted to the ball during the initial lofted pass, leaving the surrounding space more open and unsettling the defence in general.

A common sight in English football, defenders are also adept at playing this role. Their physical presence, coupled with their aerial ability makes them difficult for opposing defenders to play against. One famous example was when Sam Allardyce played Christopher Samba as a make-shift centre forward during their time at Blackburn Rovers. Samba had built a reputation for being a tough tackling defender while Allardyce had gained the tag of ‘long-ball specialist’. More recently, West Brom have used the technique from goal kicks. Having said that one must respect the English style of football because it does require strategy mixed with athleticism and speed of play. 2-3 touches and the ball is in the net.

This is how the English play direct ball and how to destroy tiki-taka. The direct ball style of soccer thrives on the counter attack. It may not be pretty but it is effective.

English and Germans have been very successful playing this style of soccer. There is nothing wrong with it if you have the right players to make it work. One cannot discredit Blues or any other team that adopts this style of soccer and say that they are not successful. The proof is in the pudding.

I personally do not discredit direct ball and understand it works when the right type of players are in place Jimmy. And all I was saying is that it does not fit our players.

Legends beat Slammers PA. Legends dominated start to finish but didn’t execute and score their chances. Legends Clearly had 10 or more clear goal scoring chances each half and slammers defended extremely well and either had defenders make crucial blocks, keeper making big time saves, or shots hitting crossbar or going just wide. Slammers sat in hoping to counter out and I believe had 2 shots the entire game. Slammers is much improved though and will make noise in state cup. Eagles beat slammers PA 4-1 but it was 1-1 at half with slammers clearly having more chances to score. Second half eagles had a pk and a Great outside shot and slammers played much of their bench more minutes. Eagles just beat slammers Crowley only 1-0 so I’m a little surprised at that score line.
