G05 CAS Rankings

More looking in the middle of the top 100. CSL Bronze mixed in with SCDSL Tier 1 teams? Presidio AA-A with upper SCDSL 2? And the CSL stuff is a bit odd too - Take LAGSD at Surf Thanksgiving. They tied Legends, lost to Rebels and lost to Real So Cal. Don't you think a harder schedule over the course of their season might show them to be weaker than some of the other teams they're ranked with or above?

I don't know what to tell you. It's all math. And based off of the current sample of games.
If you have any questions about particular teams pm me and I can send you data.

No, no, it's all good. These are all just for fun anyway, and to be honest, my kid could give two sh*ts about her ranking. I know there's no easy way to handle so many teams playing in so many different leagues/divisions. My only thought is that perhaps SOS should be more heavily weighted.

The thing that helps the rankings become more accurate (besides larger samples of games) is when teams play games outside of their league. It helps to show which leagues are stronger and makes the SOS and everything else more accurate. The rankings, SOS and everything else is weighted upon "best fit". Without adding a subjective human element to the rankings, I don't see a better way. I would love for my kids team to be ranked higher too. Thanks for the question(s). I try to be as open source as possible on this.

TangoCity- thanks for doing these rankings, really useful and helps give additional info on where is the best place fro my DD to play. It can be easy to get blinkers on re where you're at and having just moved up to the L.A. area from San Diego before the turn of the new year we want to be fully informed. Hope you keep doing 05s next year, between this, got soccer and US youth rankings, one can come up with really comprehensive composite ranking. I make it out to as many drivable tournaments as I can to see how the teams play relative to their ranking as it's not all about the numbers but results are important so long as kids are learning.

From what I've witnessed, the top 5 seem like a mini-group of their own, and then teams 6-13 are the next group -- high quality and evenly matched too. After that there's a fair amount of drop off re overall quality and believe me, I've seen each team play at least once and a few training sessions too (the latter can be rather interesting, though not always the most appropriate to share over a public forum!)

Check your calculations on the 8 week move column. It compares rank from 8 weeks ago to today, correct? So if you improve the number should be positive?

Yeah, I flipped the signs wrong. So for this weeks rankings (on the 8 weeks ago column) the signs are inverted. 1 means got worse, -1 means got better... just for this week.
Nice catch. At least someone looks at this stuff! :)

LOL. I love it. Cool to check out strength of schedule as well. Better than youthsoccer, which is also pretty good.
