MLS NEXT unveils structure and participating teams for new tier of competition
Over 1,200 teams will be competing.
It’s already on the EA website. They have the brackets or divisions already set up.Where is there any announcement on this new league MLS2? It’s not on elite academy website.
I've been trying to maintain my own mental map based on the overlap, but where is this pyramid you speak of that US Soccer put out?The general sentiment around these parts has been ECNL ranks around tier 1.5 and ECRL ranks at tier 2.5 for the boys, though the soccer pyramid US soccer put out has ECRL down at 4 and ECNL down at 2.
I saw the EA and EA2 brackets/divisions but nothing referencing MLS2 yet. It’s already on the EA website. They have the brackets or divisions already set up.
I don't see it up anymore except in some tik tok and instagram videos of people trying to explain it when it got issued. Not sure how official it was but looks like its been taken down. Perhaps someone complained.I've been trying to maintain my own mental map based on the overlap, but where is this pyramid you speak of that US Soccer put out?
There is a MLSNext Southwest bracket on the EA website. Maybe that’s MLSNext2? Look at the clubs.I saw the EA and EA2 brackets/divisions but nothing referencing MLS2 yet.
They do not. If you see it please post a screenshot. It’s already on the EA website. They have the brackets or divisions already set up.
Officially, mid-August. Unofficially the tentative dates are already up in mod 11: https://www.modular11.com/league-schedule/elite-academy-leagueWhen is the EA schedule typically released?
Yes but there is no mention of MLS2. Do you see it and I missed it?Officially, mid-August. Unofficially the tentative dates are already up in mod 11: https://www.modular11.com/league-schedule/elite-academy-league
Ok our coach is saying tonight at practice that EA national is the new MLS2 league and starts at U13. Which makes sense. Anyone else hear different?
I think EA National is only for the Southwest and it's where the Southwest North and Southwest South play cross-over matches. There are only a limited number of games for each team. I've not seen or heard a peep on the MLSN 2 schedule.I don't think so. EA national list Ranger FC which only has EA team.

Call back here to this thread...results for the first year EA teams were intersting and most will be applying for next level. Boca did end up pretty strong overall at both EA and EA2.BOCA OC...trains in Anaheim promoted to EA and DPLO . Gabbed a bunch of TFA OC kids. And expanded beyond...should be interesting.
A major trend that is missing in here is parents opting to switch their kids to homeschool and driving hours to soccer for specific teams/coaches.Very interesting. Though that's weird. TFA is advertising at least some of its MLS2 teams out of the OC. Does that mean Boca grabbed kids who didn't make the MLS2 team, TFA just shifted a lot of its MLSN kids down to drive to the OC, or TFA only made a partial move?
I think this thread is illustrating 4 trends going on with boys soccer right now in Socal:
1. Clubs are because of the rising fees moving their focus from poorer areas to the richer areas. Laufa/Albion for example moved its focus from downtown Los Angeles/Griffith Park to Long Beach and then now southward to Torrance, the OC and even sending MLSN teams to Santa Monica. If anybody has the Chula Vista/Nomads story, I would love to hear it because that's been another shift.
2. The big mega Clubs are increasingly relying on satellites for expansion. you have the Bulls for example spread out from the Val to LA West Side, LASC now in the San Gabriel Valley, Albion having acquired 4 clubs.
3. If Clubs are advertising this late into June for EA2, EA and even MLS2 teams, the reorg on those middle levels is a pretty substantial shakeup. Who is left in Socal League? It seems increasingly a place for just youngers. Is E64 gone on the boys side? What about the other non-ECNL letter leagues?
4. MLS2 at least anecdotally right now isn't shaping up to be the big integration that it was supposed to be with the first tier. Seems like it might be headed just for being the new EA, except with all the teams/players scrambled.
That's insane. If they are homeschooling because they believe in homeschool (instead of soccer) it's slightly less insane but for youngers to be doing that is nuts. The only time such distance matters is MLNS (and a handful of ECNL teams dependent on the coach) for boys and ECNL for girls gunning for top D1 schools. Certainly not for EA and ECRL. And not even for MLS2 especially given the news MLS2 is going to go SY while MLSN stays BY...it means MLS2 just became a rebranded EA and the much touted integration was just an ad song to placate parents whose kids got moved down.A major trend that is missing in here is parents opting to switch their kids to homeschool and driving hours to soccer for specific teams/coaches.
One of our teams last season had 4 players that all travelled more than 1 hour each way for practice, with one of them doing over 2 hours each way. Players/families lived in Riverside to Valencia and were travelling to South OC for teams.
We had another team with 3 players from the IE.
These are just 2015-2019 teams i am referencing. So thats a huge percentage of the team given max roster sizes of 10 to 12.
Isn't that what it always was LOL!And not even for MLS2 especially given the news MLS2 is going to go SY while MLSN stays BY...it means MLS2 just became a rebranded EA and the much touted integration was just an ad song to placate parents whose kids got moved down.
I cannot disagree with you at all on this! It is however becoming more and more common where parents of 7 to 11 year olds want their "next cr7/messi" to be on a top 20 team in CA and are willing to do these crazy drives which include homeschooling just for the sake of a specific soccer team or coach. I have seen parents leave a season midway and transfer to another team this past year because the team dropped out of the top 10 for a week or two. The money as well isnt really a problem for most SoCal families and spending 6k instead of 3k for their childs club team doesnt change anything for them. That's insane.
