Cal South 2004 Player Pool Announced

If you cannot see the talent of 6,16, 9 on Arsenal then you are not being honest with anyone.
My god they owned Surfs mids- even when a certain one tried to play rugby with 16 she flat out DUSTED HER.

Give it some time. Not one player that I saw in that game would be recruited by a top team. I'm just bring honest. Maybe once they learn to receive a pass, turn away from pressure and can connect with their head up. You may think that they are amazingly athletic but that is simply until they come against players that are more athletic. They are scattered around and they are learning the skills that they need to succeed. Kids that rely on their size, strength and athleticism but don't learn how to play technical soccer might end up at the Central Arkansas' of the world but not the Stanford's, Duke's, Notre Dame's and Georgetown's. Keep thinking that what a kid has at 12/13 matters. My player was on a "B" team at 12 but was getting privates, working hard and grinding and she passed those Arsenal girls that won the first U14 ECNL national title.

It's hard to predict the future without knowing the past. You seem to be a pragmatic guy. I suggest you do a little research.

If anyone beats UCLA this year I will be in shock but that's a different thread. Mal, Fleming, Sanchez oh my. Frightening and that doesn't even take into account their back line and incredible keeper. Just great great soccer and opportunity for our girls to watch!

MAP has the same complaint about USC (kickball, physical, terrible soccer) . I'm thinking she/he does not like winners.

Real funny. My kid has two national championships and will be favored to win another this year. If you won't acknowledge what is front if your eyes I can't help you. And I saw $C get owned by 2 other local teams that plays soccer.

Yup and how parents should WANT their DD's developed and to play....unlike um, cough, cough, cough Arsenal!

It's okay though, there are a lot of kick and run college teams though.

I fully appreciate that viewpoint and honesty! I appreciate your insights as well that's why I listed those three girls because those are the three that stood out. I sincerely believed you would have been intrigued by those three.
On Surf 9 stands out. That's it for me.
What I did inspired by your posts yesterday was pull up college workout packets . Intersting reading any particular one that you think is better? They vary so much with beep, weights, shuttles vs long range etc
I have seen that the girls who work technically alone and are essentially opting out of club and doing privates etc, whether it be theee times a week or whatever are slowly passing the others. It is clear to me.
My daughters favorite player is Annie Alvarado at UCLA. Her story is something else and so we do spend a lot of time researching and fine tuning. At this point her privates are far more productive than team training and she's at a top club.

As you know even on the kick and run teams the players have to be able to receive a pass under pressure.

Kong, the positive thing about the Arsenal kickball is the ball is being kicked to your DD and that's about it. Eventually though your DD will need to learn how to time her diagonal runs and if she is an outside forward.....when to work back when a wingback is getting forward on the flanks. #development

Development? What's that?
We don't do that at 04. We recruit and win.

It's amazing to me that you can sit there and project DD's future with just one game

We know and agree on this point - Elite Soccer players will have to have a mastery of the ball at their feet with finesse and precision that is worthy of Tiki-Taka, No doubt about that.

Just because this one game was not played that way or to the style, liking and comfort level of Surf ... does not mean our DD's do not have or are working on those very skill sets.

The modern Elite American Soccer player will have the best of both worlds - Strong, Athletic, fast with the finesse worthy of tiki taka play.

When the competition is sleeping many of our DD's are working, grinding to become the best they can be! - which is why many of your coaches want our DD's ... they flat out compete and out work many DD's on the pitch - as the saying goes you can't teach Size, Speed and heart!

It would be a mistake to sleep on or underestimate our DD's ....because one game we will come out and play the vertical, physical game as witnessed by Surf "Hallueah can I get an Amen" and next game we will come out and play the Tiki Taka way ...building diagonal runs from the back etc. etc

Hold up ....This conversation just inspired me

My DD was eliminated in bracket play but after reading all the post I have a question, if Surf got outplayed, if Arsenal dominated, why was the score 0-0 until this unfortunate play? By all the negative posts regarding Surf, I thought Arsenal would have won +++ 3-0. By the score, seems like a pretty even match until the refs blew a call. Just an outsiders interpretation.

In all seriousness folks - from the bottom of my heart I appreciate and respect your teams and opinions on this board

When we play your teams whether we win or lose - you make us better / Jealous and hungry ... the good thing about "us" ... all of "us" it's Iron sharpening Iron - translation Your DD's make our DD's better and hopefully vice Versa

So Cal - is so lucky to have such a density of talented DD's out there

Just having fun on this board .... no - disrespect all in fun

Which much Love KongZilla

Admittedly Surf was a fierce competitor - they weee the clear favorites and by any measure they could have put one on us... so Arsenal is not saying we crushed them ... we just feel the better team won that day

EA, You got it! Focus on your DD getting better. In a couple of years, her and her teammates will be competing for the same college offers.

Valid question.
It should have been higher. There was a gorgeous play in the first 8. Multiple opportunities abounded. Credit to 3 on Surf she stopped momentum and plays with grit.
The game is an excellent teaching tool. I can't speak to exact number of surf shots but I can tell you the Arsenal goalie was only pressured once and that was in the first two minutes.
You can get outplayed and out hustled with a low scoring game.
To be frank one of the tenants of DA is eliminating those high scoring games - translation boot to my fast forward.
Watch the game- see who spends the first seven minutes with the ball in the air.
